The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is the subject of innumerable leaks right now considering how close it is to a launch. This new leak however has taken us all by surprise as it’s revealing the device to be packing a fingerprint scanner on the back, something which we hadn’t heard about in the past.
With Android M supporting fingerprint scanning by default, it is a logical move by the company to embed the necessary hardware on their device, even if it’s a midrange offering. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is also expected to be sporting a 5.5 inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera on the back, a 5-megapixel front camera, the octa core MediaTek MT6795 chipset and Android 5.1 Lollipop.
It will be interesting to see how the fingerprint scanning tech will be put to use by Xiaomi and if there will be any new services announced to complement the sensor. As of now, functionality is pretty limited on Android, but the release of Android M later this year will change that to a great extent.
