S4 Freezes When Unlocked

Problem: I am having an issue with opening up my Galaxy S4 after updating to Lollipop. I lock the phone then a notification box appears at the top of the screen like normal. The problem is, I will click and swipe, or just swipe to open, and the screen freezes for a very short time then locks again (goes black) . When I unlock it/ swipe again, it is on my message or notification that I was trying to open.  It’s not a huge program but it’s one of those little things that drives me crazy! Also, in the messaging app, it takes many many tries to press the back button when I want to go from an individual conversation to all my messages. Thank you!

Solution: It looks like this freezing issue on the lock screen may be caused by your phone’s cached data. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone and see if this resolves the issue.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • After the cache wipe is complete, press the Power key to select reboot system now.
  • Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.

Regarding the issue with your messaging app, you should try to clear its cache and data.

  • From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap the More tab.
  • Tap Application manager.
  • Swipe to the All screen
  • Tap the Messaging application
  • Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  • Tap Clear cache.

S4 Apps Missing After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hello, I have been experiencing some problems with my Samsung S4 after the new 5.0.1 update. About 90% of my apps have been deleted and my home screen is pretty much blank now except from my email and online banking apps. I just want to restore my apps and my Play store won’t let me download my apps again as it just flashes black and white then doesn’t work. Please help!

Solution: Usually in this case you need to restart your phone. Turn off your phone and take out the battery. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. Reinsert the battery and turn on your phone. Check if your apps are present.

If your apps are still gone then go to Settings and Application Manager. Check if the missing apps are listed there. If they are not there then you may need to reinstall them again. If the apps are present then try wiping the cache partition of your phone.

If the problem still persists or you can’t download any apps at the Google Play Store then I suggest you back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S4 Messaging App Has Stopped Working

Problem: Hi i just did the latest software update and now my SMS doesn’t work at all. It instantly closed. Occasionally an error message saying Unfortunately messaging had stopped I’ve spoken to Samsung with no success. I’ve tried to clear data on the messaging app, Cleared the cache, uninstalled updates, forced stopped, turned off the phone. Ive also Cleared data in android system Webview, forced stopped etc Still no SMS PLEASE HELP.

Solution: There’s one thing that you haven’t done yet and that is to perform a factory reset. This deletes any data from the old software version that is still in your phone and is causing this issue to occur. Make sure to back up your data before proceeding.

S4 Lag In Sending Or Receiving Text Messages

Problem: For quite some time my Samsung Galaxy S4 has been having text message problems.  I have a ten-second delay set on my messages, but my message often sits there as delayed in gray without being sent for a few minutes or up to an hour.  I’ll receive messages from people the same way long after the time on the message.  I thought I just needed to clear some space up on my phone, but the problem persists & it’s quite frustrating.  Thanks for your help.

Solution: This issue may either be caused by a network problem or a phone problem. If you have access to another phone try taking out your SIM from the S4 and insert it in this other phone. Try to send a text message and see if the lag still occurs. If it does then this may be network related. Contact your carrier regarding this.

If however there is no lag in sending a text message when the SIM is inserted in the other phone then the issue may be with your phone.

Return the SIM to the S4. What you need to do first is to clear the cache and data of the messaging app.

  • From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap the More tab.
  • Tap Application manager.
  • Swipe to the All screen
  • Tap the Messaging application
  • Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  • Tap Clear cache.

Try to check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.

S4 Unfortunately TouchWiz Has Stopped Working Error

Problem: I do see it on the quick view screen but when I tap it says unfortunately TouchWiz has stopped working. I tried reboot and then when I tap it gives me a option for TouchWiz normal or easy. I tap easy and I get a few settings but the others when I tap takes be back to the unfortunately message again then go’s to home screen and then no settings gear icon or when I tap the quick view settings gear it reads unfortunately message again. I tried factory wipe rebooting even cleared cache and when in safe mode I still get the message. The friend said this happened after a security update? WTH? Should I just give up at this point or is there a way to get the settings back? Thanks sorry so long. Hope you can help

Solution: If the issue occurs even in Safe Mode and does not go away even when a factory reset has been done then this issue may be caused by a corrupt software.  Try to check if there are any new software updates available for your phone and get them.

If no new updates are available then you should consider reflashing your phone software. You do this you will need a copy of your phone firmware as well as a software called Odin installed in your computer. Detailed instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular online Android forums.

S4 Video Player Not Working

Problem: My Galaxy S4 today has stopped playing videos that I record using the Samsung installed Camera app.  I have an 18 month old boy so I am taking lots of pics and videos.  Until this morning, this was working perfectly. I have a 64GB micro SD card installed and all pics/videos automatically save to it.  There is currently 29.75GB of free space on the card, so that is not the issue.  I use the Gallery ICS app for playback of pics/videos I take, and it has been working fine.  I tried installing the Camera ICS Classic app, and found that videos recorded on it DO play – but I hated the app, especially with the ads coming up all the time. I downloaded and installed the latest firmware upgrade a couple of weeks ago and haven’t really noticed any big problems since then.  I have not installed any software or apps that change the phone’s basic installed systems (i.e. anything like jailbreaking).

Solution: The issue may be caused by a corrupt cached data in your stock video player app. Try clearing the cache and data of this app first and see if this resolves the issue.

  • From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap the More tab.
  • Tap Application manager.
  • Swipe to the All screen
  • Tap the stock video player application
  • Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  • Tap Clear cache.

If the problem persists then try uninstalling the updates of the video player app.
