Note 4 White Screen On Google Play Store

Problem: Hello, I have been trying to download apps from Google Play and all I get is a white screen. It will say I need to update and when I click on it all I get is a white screen again. Some have said it is from the last update.  I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Solution: Make sure that your phone is connected to a fast and stable Internet connection. If the connection is slow then the Google Play Store may load slowly and will usually result in the white screen.

Once you have made sure that the issue is not with the connection it’s now time to troubleshoot the phone. First, you will need to wipe its cache partition. This deletes any temporary data that oftentimes causes this issue.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power and Home key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key.
  • Continue holding the Volume Up key until the Android System Recovery menu displays and then release. This step may take several seconds.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

If this issue occurred right after you updated your phone then I highly recommend performing a factory reset if wiping the cache partition does not help. A factory reset deletes any old system data that may still be in your phone that is causing a conflict with the new software resulting in this issue. Just make sure to back up your phone data before performing the steps listed below.

  • Turn off the phone. If the phone will not turn off, remove and re-insert the battery.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power and Home key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device

Note 4 Can’t Use Keypad After Update

Problem: Hi, I am unable to use my keypad whilst on call after i last applied the software updates. I tried clearing my cache but it still doesn’t work. Please help advise. Thanks

Solution: This issue constantly pops up whenever someone updates their device to Lollipop. One resolution to this issue requires the troubleshooting of the dialer app.

Try to disable the dialer app then clear its cache.

  • From a Home screen, tap Apps
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the Device section, tap Applications.
  • Tap Application Manager.
  • From the ALL tab, tap the Dialer app.
  • Tap Disable
  • Tap Clear cache.

Restart your phone then go back to the dialer app from settings and enable it.

If the issue still persists then I suggest you consider performing a factory reset. This is a highly recommended procedure every time a phone encounters issues right after a software update. This deletes any old system data that may still be present in your phone and causing conflicts with the new software. Just make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Note 4 “album name already exists” Error

Problem: Hi there, I am having a problem creating an album in my photo gallery.  The problem started after I got Lollipop.  I have a Samsung Note 4. When I go to my gallery to create an album, I always get an error message saying that ‘the album name already exists’.  I’ve tried all kinds of words and I get the same error every time. Have you encountered this problem before?  Is there a fix for it that you are aware of? Any help you could provide would be immensely appreciated! Many thanks

Solution: This may just be a glitch within the Gallery app itself. You should try to wipe the cache and data of the app first and see if this resolves the issue.

  • From a Home screen, tap Apps
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the Device section, tap Applications.
  • Tap Application Manager.
  • From the ALL tab, tap the Gallery app.
  • Tap Clear cache
  • Tap Clear data.

If the problem still persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.

Note 4 Pop Ups Appearing

Problem: Has Google started doing pop ups for their play store? Every time I start my tablet it takes me straight to one of the apps from the play store attempting to get me to buy it? Do you know a way for me to stop this? It is very annoying!

Solution: These pop-ups usually appear when you browse a certain website or play a certain game that you downloaded for free. If however the pop-ups appear even when you are at the home screen of your phone then this may already be malware and is usually difficult to trace.

If the pop-up ads appear when you are browsing using Chrome then you can stop these pop-ups from your browser settings.

Open Chrome then click on the three dots on the upper right side of the screen. Click on Settings then go to the Advanced section and click on Site Settings. Make sure that the pop-ups option is set to blocked.

If the pop-up ads appear whenever you run a particular app or game then try to uninstall the app/game and check if the pop-ups still appear.

If however the apps appear on your home screen then this will take some time to trace.

You should first close all apps running in your phone. Restarting your phone may be the quickest way to do this. Try to check which apps you installed at the time the issue occurred. This may be what is causing the pop-ups to occur. Once you have the likely suspects head out to the google Play Store then check out the app reviews. If a particular app is a culprit then chances are other people who have installed the app will write about it in the app review section. Delete this app.

If you can’t find the app then you should consider installing a security app in your phone that is designed to detect connections to ad networks from within your phone apps.  Once the app is detected delete it.

One final step that you can do is to do a factory reset. This procedure deletes everything in your phone and restores it to its original condition when it was new. It is a must that you back up your phone data before proceeding.

Note 4 Driving Mode Issue

Problem: I’m sure you have addressed this somewhere but I couldn’t locate the answer. My note 4 (Verizon) suddenly started sending me messages about driving mode. It seems an alert each time (annoying) and I’m not driving, I have no car dock, and I’ve changed nothing on my phone. It seems to have started this on its own! At the same time I’ve been getting error messages that facebook is not responding which is new, too. So you have any suggestions?

Solution: The Car/Drive Mode of your phone is primarily used to make using the phone while driving easy. If you ae constantly getting messages about this then drag down the quick settings menu of your phone and check the car mode icon. If it is lit green then tap on it to deactivate it.

If the Car/Drive mode activates on its own then the next step to do is to check if this issue may be caused by a certain third party app installed in your phone. Start your phone in Safe Mode then observe if he issue still occurs.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key.
  • Release the Power key when the Samsung logo appears but continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode then this may be caused by an app. Find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.

This issue may also be caused by the USB port of your phone triggering the car dock connection. This happens if the USB port has dirt or lint. If this is the case then just clean the USB port with compressed air or a toothpick. If this is caused by a faulty USB port then you will have to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

To rule out any software related causes I suggest doing a factory reset on your phone before ruling this as a hardware problem. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Regarding the Facebook issue of your phone you can first try clearing the cache and data of the Facebook app.

  • From a Home screen, tap Apps
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the Device section, tap Applications.
  • Tap Application Manager.
  • From the ALL tab, tap the Facebook app.
  • Tap Clear cache
  • Tap Clear data.

If the problem still persists then uninstall the Facebook app then download a fresh version from the Google Play Store.

Note 4 Freezes While Charging

Problem: Hi, My Note 4 for the most part is working fine after the lollipop update. The one issue I am having I am not seeing on your site but did find another user have the problem on a google search. While charging the phone locks up where I have to pull the battery. I have performed a cache partition wipe with no change. The other user I mentioned said they did a factory reset but that did not fix it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Solution: By performing a factory reset any software related causes can already be ruled out. The next thing to consider is if the charger is causing this issue. Try to use a different charger. You should also try to connect the charger to a different power outlet. If the issue disappears after this then the freezing issue may be caused by an incorrect voltage provided by the charger.

Another thing to rule out is if the battery is causing the problem. Try to use a different battery on your phone.

Finally, you should also rule out this issue being caused by the microSD by removing it.

If the issue still persists then this may already be caused by a hardware component inside your phone. Have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

Note 4 Can’t Upload Photos From Gallery To Social

Problem: Good morning I’ve been having a bit of a problem regarding my galaxy note 4. I did notice to when I Uninstalled my instagram and reinstalled it if I used the later version without updating it it worked. any ideas why it won’t let me upload them.

Note 4 Can’t Receive Links From Text Messages

Problem: Hi, I just recently updated my Galaxy Note 4  with lollipop and my question is that I am unable to receive links via text messages from group messaging, so when I receive a link from a group texting, I’m unable to log onto them. I’ve called my carrier for further assistance, they were unable to help. Is it just me having this problem with this new update??? Help!!!

Solution: This issue may be caused by a corrupt temporary data in your messaging app. I suggest you try to clear the cache and data of your messaging app. Be sure to back up any important messages that you want saved before proceeding.

  • From a Home screen, tap Apps
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the Device section, tap Applications.
  • Tap Application Manager.
  • From the ALL tab, tap the Messaging app.
  • Tap Clear cache
  • Tap Clear data.

If the issue persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone

If the issue still occurs then it may be caused by a third party app installed in your phone (possible a security app). Start your phone in Safe mode and see if the problem disappears.

If the problem does not occur then it’s likely caused by a third party app. Find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.

Note 4 “Unfortunately, Software update has stopped” Error

Problem: Hi there, I recently bought a Samsung Note 4 and one of the first messages I was met with was “Unfortunately, Software update has stopped.” Followed by the same message with the gallery app. Loading the gallery app results in it just coming up with the same message. Loading the Google Chrome and Internet apps results in the same error. I have looked through the messages on your site and cleared the cache and deleted data on all the apps that I’ve had the problem with, but with no change. Doing a factory reset has not helped the problem, and it comes up in safe mode too. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have not been able to find anything that helps!

Solution:  Try taking out the battery of your phone while the phone is still on and leave it out for at least 5 minutes. Reinsert the battery and turn on your phone. Proceed with updating the software of your phone using Kies. Download Kies and install it in your computer. Using a USB cord connect your phone to the computer with Kies running. If an update is available then you will be prompted regarding this. Just follow the onscreen instructions to update your phone software.

Note 4 Photos/Music Not Showing In Gallery Or Music Apps After Lollipop Update

Solution: Try to restart your phone first and see if the issue gets resolved. If the issue remains then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone since this may just be caused by a corrupt temporary data.

  • Press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the issue persists then I recommend performing a factory reset. This usually solves any issues that occurs right after a software update. Just make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Note 4 Verizon Update Time/Date Lockscreen Issue

Problem: Thanks for the great info on thedroidguy.com. My Note 4 got the initial Lollipop release and it works pretty good although I do have an issue that you could maybe help me resolve. I had my lock screen set to show large clock and date, help text, owner information, and pedometer. It no longer does so unless I reboot the phone and then it only shows the information until I do something. I really liked the large time and date as I can read it without putting on glasses. I love the pedometer display and miss that more than anything. My settings seem correct. As I said, they do work for the initial lock screen after a reboot and they worked before the new release. It is a Verizon phone and I stopped at a Verizon store and after a couple reps played around with it for a while, they said there were a number of problems with the Verizon version of Lollipop and there would be an upgrade coming out soon that should resolve my problem. I’ve been waiting over a month and periodically check for updates but have found nothing. Any suggestions you may have would be appreciated. Thanks

Solution: I suggest that you wait for the new update from Verizon to arrive. The update may contain a fix to this particular issue. If no update notification arrives OTA you can also use Kies to check for a new update. Just connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Kies. You will receive a notification if a new update is available.

Note 4 Not Reading SIM Card After Factory Reset

Problem: Hi droid guy. I have an unlocked note 4. I did a hard  soft factory re boot on my phone…  now the phone doesn’t wanna read my sim card… Did it restore sumthing I don’t know about..? Can u please help..?

Solution: Turn off your phone and take out the SIM card. Inspect the SIM card holder of your phone for any signs of dirt or lint. Clean it using compressed air or a toothpick. Carefully reinsert the SIM car making sure that it aligns correctly with the SIM holder contacts. Turn on your phone and check if it can now read your SIM card. If your phone still can’t read the SIM then try to insert a different SIM in your phone.

Note 4 File Name Already Exists Error

Problem: Hello TDG, I’ve read some of your articles and they have helped me in the past but this is one issue where I have not been able to find a solution whatsoever. I like to keep my photos organized, but when I go into my Gallery on my Note 4 (currently updated, Android 5.0.1, on snapdragon SM-N910W8) and try to create an album with any of the available methods, it tells me that the ‘file name already exists’ and doesn’t let me create the album I need. It is becoming a particularly awful hindrance, I have of course looked to check that the file name is not in fact currently in use, in my gallery or anywhere else on my phone. I am at my wit’s end. Thank you for your time, TDG, and I look forward to hearing back soon.

Solution: This issue could be caused by a glitch in the Gallery app. Try clearing the cache and data of the phone gallery app and see if this resolves the issue.

  • From a Home screen, tap Apps
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the Device section, tap Applications.
  • Tap Application Manager.
  • From the ALL tab, tap the Gallery app.
  • Tap Clear cache
  • Tap Clear data.

If the problem persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.
