Note 3 Apps Missing After Lollipop Update

Problem: I have recently updated my galaxy note 3 (SM N 900) to lollipop version 5.0 after I got an update alert. Soon after the update I am facing some issues with the phone. None of the apps which were previously installed like Facebook, WhatsApp, chrome, Gmail seem to work. The icons are also missing but under device manger the app is showing but the space is showing as 0.00 bytes.  I tried to download again from google play… But it is not opening as well. Battery seems to be draining too fast. The lollipop update is causing great inconvenience in my work life. Will be grateful if you guide me with some troubleshooting steps. Thank you.

Solution: If the app file sizes are showing as 0.00 bytes then they may have been affected by the upgrade process. Normally, when you do an upgrade the apps will be working fine however in this case they are not functioning anymore. Try to uninstall the affected apps if you can or uninstall the app updates. Once the app has been uninstalled install the latest version from the Google Play Store.

If the issue still persists then you will have to back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

Note 3 Messaging App Lags After Lollipop Update

Problem: My note 3 was fine until I upgraded to lollipop. After which my text app “messages ” is operating very slowly.  When I try sending a text,  it can take upwards of 15 min for the  text to go. The cursor just goes round and round and sending is indicated.  At times I am forced to use “messenger “. This happens on both WiFi and mobile data.  Please help. Thanking you in advance.

Solution: The best way to proceed in this case is to clear the cache and data of your messaging app. This clears out the temporary data stored by the app that may be causing this lag problems. It also resets the messaging app to its default settings.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • On the More tab, tap Application manager.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Messages application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • Tap Clear data.
  • The application cache and data is now cleared.

If the issue still persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3’ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
  • With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

Note 3 Snapchat Crashes

Problem: I have a Galaxy Note 3 that is unlocked from Verizon to now being on ATT… it seems to work great for the 4 months I’ve had it, but snap chat did an update, and now it crashes consistently 3-5 seconds after opening every single time it’s opened.. I took it to a ATT resolution center and they said my phone is still running kit Kat and needs to be updated to lollipop. When I go to the system updates it says there is a problem and it won’t update. It never has since I switched it over. So, I’m trying to get my snap chat working and my phone to update.. is there a way to get it to update now that I’m on the att network and it’s technically a verizon phone? It was suggested to me that the only solution is to take the phone to the Verizon store and ask them to put their Sim card from a galaxy note 3 demo phone to do the update, then put my sim card back in.. is this the only way? Seems like I’d have to do this a lot to get updates, but I never know when there is a new update available… if there is a setting change or anything, please help me.. also, will I have to do a factory reset again after I get upgraded?

Solution: Regarding the Snapchat crashing issue try to uninstall the app then install a fresh version from the Google Play Store. If the issue persists then you should try to update your phone first to Lollipop and then download Snapchat again.

To update your phone software you should try connecting it using a USB cord with a computer running on Kies. Once Kies detects your phone it will prompt you for any new software updates. Just follow the instructions on the computer screen to perform the update.

If no update is available when you use Kies then check what the error message says on your phone when you try to check for an update OTA. Your phone will not get the official update if it has been rooted.

If your phone software has not been modified or rooted then your best option is to get your phone updated at the Verizon store.

If you see any issues after the software update then you will have to do a factory reset. Just remember to back up your phone data before doing this.

Note 3 Apps Automatically Installing

Problem: Hi There, I hope you can help. I have a Galaxy Note 3 and is experiencing some apps that keeps installing themselves – despite the fact that I keeps uninstalling them again and again. I have Avast Antivirus on my Note 3.

The apps are: BatteryBot, Daily Race, Clean Master

Hope you can help me because it is really annoying. Thanks in advance.

Solution: Make sure that you are uninstalling the apps and not just the updates of the app. If you just uninstall the app update then it will just rollback the app to a previous version.

If however you have uninstalled the said apps and yet they install on their own in your phone then this is definitely a problem and likely a security risk. I suggest you back up your phone data and perform a factory reset.

Note 3 App Icon Changes After Moving To MicroSD

Problem: On my phone I have the apps on the widget screen, I think that’s what its called.  But when I transfer the app over to the SD card the app turns into a small SD card that has the title of the app at the bottom instead of the regular picture looking app. Can that be fixed?

Solution: Try to restart your phone. If the issue still occurs then delete the app shortcuts on the screen and replace them with a new one from the All Apps menu.
