A new report is suggesting that the Snapdragon 820 SoC from Qualcomm will be manufactured by Samsung starting later this year. Leaks and rumors have hinted at manufacturers utilizing this chipset with their upcoming flagships this year, but that doesn’t seem likely given that Qualcomm is yet to make it official.
This newly surfaced report goes on to say that companies like Sony, Xiaomi and HTC will be the first in line to use the Snapdragon 820 on their flagships. It’s already been mentioned that the likes of the OnePlus 2 and even an upcoming Xiaomi flagship will utilize a modified version of the Snapdragon 810, so we don’t think we’ll see any devices featuring Snapdragon 820 this year.
The Snapdragon 820 SoC will supposedly utilize the powerful 3 GHz Kyro CPU, which should bring desktop level performance to smartphones and tablets. This has always been the goal for chip makers as the mobile market is very lucrative from a profits perspective as well. NVIDIA is known to up the ante in the mobile segment and it’s good to see that Qualcomm is not holding back.
