M8 Downloaded APK Files Does Not Install

Problem: Hello, I have a problem with my unlocked t-mobile HTC One M8, it can download .apk files right from the browser but it won’t allow me to instal them, the instal button literally won’t press. When I just got the phone it allowed me to instal those files I’m not sure if an app is blocking their installation or if some setting were changed. Please help if you can, thank you.

Solution: Before we proceed let me just warn you of the dangers of installing an app outside of the Google Play Store. These apps may pose a security risk to your phone since they have not been verified and may carry with them malware. Having said that, let’s take a look at the issue. The first thing you need to check is your phone settings. In particular you need to make sure to activate the unknown sources on your phone. to do this go to Settings > Security > Unknown sources and make sure that it is checked.

Try to install the APK file again and see if you can install it.

If you still can’t install the file then check if your phone has a security app installed and determine if this app is blocking the installation of the APK file.

M8 App Crashed Now Phone Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hi! I recently bought a used HTC One M8 and it has been running really well and everything until one of my apps crashed. When I returned to home screen several of my apps were listed as “uninstalled”. So I tried to reset my phone (huge mistake) and now I can’t turn it back on because it keeps on getting stuck at the HTC white screen page and then it turns back and it vibrates and goes to the white screen again (it repeats it over and over). I know my battery wasn’t a problem because i had it fully charged. Please help and thanks a lot!

Solution: If your phone has a microSD card installed take it out of your phone first. Try to wipe the cache partition of your phone and see if this resolves the issue.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
  • Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
  • The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
  • Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  • Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
  • Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
  • Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
  • If this does not resolve your issue, the next step a master reset.

If the problem persists then you will need to do a factory reset. Remember to only do this if you have recently made a backup of your phone data as this will be deleted in the process.

  • Press and hold the Power button
  • Tap Power off.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down key.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key twice to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to FACTORY RESET.
  • Press the Power key to perform the master reset.

M8 Lag In Messaging App

Problem: Hi, I have an HTC One M8 Harman/Kardon edition through Sprint. I’ve recently been having issues with the default text messaging application. It lags when opening messages and sending messages, and when I type, it takes a few second for the letters to appear. I have already tried shutting the phone down and turning it back on (not just restarting), and I’ve cleared the cache for the messaging app, but it hasn’t got any better. Any ideas? Thanks

Solution: You should try to start your phone in Safe Mode to check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing this lag in the messaging app.

  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
  • When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
  • When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.

If you don’t experience any lag in this mode then the issue is most likely caused by an app. Find this app and uninstall it.

If however you still experience a lag then I suggest your next move is to wipe the cache partition of your phone.
