S4 Does Not Start Up

Problem: Hi there, I own a samsung galaxy s4 i9505 and am having some problems with it. The phone does not start up despite being left on charge. I have tried starting in safe mode and recovery mode with no luck. If I take the battery out and hold the power button down then reinsert the battery, the Samsung logo comes up briefly but disappears and then nothing else happens. When plugged in to charge, occasionally the charging emblem comes up but soon goes away. Hope you can be of help.

Solution: The first thing to check is the phone charger port. See if it has any dirt or lint present as this may interfere with the charging process. Clean the port using a toothpick or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. You should also check the USB cord of the charger you are using if it has any visible defects. Better yet, try to use a different wall charger and see if the phone charges. You should also consider replacing the phone battery with a new one as the one your phone is currently using may already be defective.

If the issue still remains after isolating the battery and the charger then the next step is to check the phone software.

Take out you phone battery (and microSD card if it has one installed). Press and hold the power button for a minute then reinsert the battery but leave the microSD out. Try to turn on your phone.

If your phone still does not turn on then it’s time to attempt a factory reset. Make sure to only perform this procedure if you have previously made a backup of your phone data.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

If your phone still does not turn on then this may already be a hardware related problem. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Power Button Damaged

Problem: help i cannot turn on my galaxy s4. its power button is broken and every time i plug the usb cable in the phone goes to recovery mode and i cannot do anything but up and down because the power button doesn’t work. i don’t know what else i can do. please help me. thanks in advance.

Solution: In this case you really need to check if it’s the power button that is defective or the circuit board that it is connected to. This requires the phone to be opened and checked by a knowledgeable technician. I recommend you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have them check your phone.

S4 Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hello, Please help with my S4 phone. I could not get phone to turn on after charging. Went to AT&T store. They said I needed new battery. Replaced battery at store. Clerk put a charge into phone and I saw it turn on . However when I got home I placed phone on charge and after a couple hours I checked phone and it would not turn on. Please help. Thank you.

Solution: The charger you are using may have a problem. If you saw the clerk charge your phone using the new battery then there’s a big possibility that the phone and your battery does not have a problem which leaves us with the charger. Try using a different wall charger (with a different USB cable) and check if there is a charging indicator on your phone display.

S4 Not Turning On After Drop

Problem: hi! I accidentally dropped my galaxy s4 and the lcd got broke but i can turn it on maybe after 3-4 days it got low bat so i charged it, after that i did not turn it on anymore. then after a week or two it does not open, if i charge it it just overheat. i went to my local cellphone repair shop but they said they cannot fix it. What happened? *sorry for my english*

Solution: Since this issue occurred right after you dropped your phone then there may be some internal components that were affected aside from the LCD display. When you mentioned that your phone overheats when charging this could be a sign that there is a short circuit inside your phone. This could potentially be dangerous since if our phone gets too hot the battery may leak or explode.

What you could do first is to try to use a different battery on your phone and see if it charges and does not overheat. If it doesn’t charge then you should consider looking for another repair shop that can pinpoint the exact cause of the issue.

S4 Does Not Turn On After Downloading App

Problem: Dear Team, I am using Samsung S4, I recently updated the latest version this week. Today when I was trying to use browser there a message popping up as browser at risk and asked to download some app for fast usage of browser, I downloaded it, but immediately after that my phone was switched off and now when I am trying to restart it , it is not starting. The Phone turns on but is stuck on the start screen that shows S4 GT-xyz…and not moving forward…what should I do???

Solution:  The app that you downloaded may have corrupted your phone software. The best thing to do in this case is to perform a factory reset. You should only do this if you have previously made a backup of your phone software.

S4 Not Booting Up

Problem: Good afternoon, I am emailing about the fact that my samsung galaxy s4 will not turn back on after randomly turning itself off. every time i remove the battery and place back in again, the phone vibrates and shows the time screen and turns back off again. This also happened when I plug my charger into it as well, it shows the charging screen, but turns off again and no indication if it is still charging. Is there any advice you can give me on this? Many thanks.

Solution: This may be caused by a totally drained battery and the charger not able to charge it. Check the charging port of your phone if it has any signs of dirt or lint. This may interfere with the charging process. If you spot any then clean the port using a toothpick.

If your phone still does not charge then the problem may be with the battery or the charger itself. Try to use a new battery on your phone and charge it with a different wall charger (make sure to use a different USB cable as well).
