Galaxy S6 Battery Decreases While Charging

Problem: Hello Droid Guy, have a question. I upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy Avant to the Galaxy S6 on T-Mobile. Upon activating it, there was an upgrade to the next version of Lollipop.

Since then, every so often when I plug in the charger, I notice that the battery percentage actually decreases in number instead of increasing. So I unplug the charger and plug it back in and then it works normally for several days.

What may be causing this? I have heard that other users have this issue. Thanks, Patrick from Boise, Idaho.

Troubleshooting: I wonder what version of Android your phone is running now but I’m positive there were no reported bugs, so it could be that the recent update somehow corrupted some of the caches and data of your phone and caused some inconsistencies. There is also a possibility that some of your apps is causing this problem.

The best way to know if this is app-related issue or not is to boot the phone in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps. Then, observe closely if the phone still drains its battery even if the charger is plugged in. I will assume you are using the original charging unit and cable because if not, then that could be the reason why the device can’t charge properly.

Now, if the phone charges fine in safe mode, the problem is app-related. You need to find the app that’s causing the problem to see if there’s an available update for it. If there’s none, then you have no other option but to uninstall it just to fix this problem.

However, if the battery still drains even if all third-party apps are disabled, then the problem is with the firmware. More often, during updates, some caches and data are corrupted and they usually cause problems. So, they need to be deleted so the phone can create new ones. That said, you need to wipe the cache partition first; if that didn’t work, perform master reset.

Galaxy S6 Keeps Turning Off

Problem: Hello, I have searched the whole of the net and can’t find any answers. My problem is…I just got my Samsung S6 yesterday and I did the whole start up etc. but it randomly turned off so I hold in the power button and nothing happens I then hold in volume up, power & home button… still nothing I keep doing these for at least 5 frustrating minutes then it turns on… great news yeah? nope after I leave it for a few minutes it goes blank again, if charging the light still stays on but nothing on screen, I am just wanting to enjoy my new phone but I cant seem to as It wont stay on very long! PLEASE HELP ME! Many Thanks. — Natalie

Suggestion: Hi Natalie! Ideally, a new phone should work without any issues because if it doesn’t, then you didn’t get what you’ve paid for and that’s just not right. What I mean is that there’s no point in troubleshooting a problem that comes with the phone. Honestly, we don’t know why your new Galaxy S6 randomly turns off so we may spend a day find what the problem is and how to fix it. But why should we do that if you can just go to the store where you bought it and have it replaced with a new unit?

It’s not that we don’t to help you fix it but what’s the point of having a new phone that is defective, right?

Galaxy S6 Speakerphone Always On, Car Mode

Problem: Hi there, I’ve had my s6 for about a month now and this problem only started recently.   Everyone I make or answer a call it defaults to speakerphone. It’s really annoying. There’s no car mode in my settings and I tried disabling the s voice app. Nothing works. Any ideas? Thank so much! — Rachel

Troubleshooting: Hi Rachel. Your first problem is connected to the app called S Voice. Under this app, there’s a setting that automatically turns on the speakerphone and the thing is, it’s enabled by default. So, I can’t see any other reason why your Galaxy S6 defaults to the speakerphone. To fix this, go to Settings > Applications > S Voice > turn off Auto start speakerphone. That should take care of the problem.

Now, about your question on the Car mode feature, well, Samsung got rid of 40% of its bloatware and sad to say, Car Mode was among those that were ditched. But don’t worry, you can still download it. Just go to Samsung store and search for the app Car Mode.

Galaxy S6 Randomly Reboots

Question: I just read your article about S6 problems that people are facing off. Mine problem is more complicated. After 2 days my Samsung S6 began random reboots itself. Sometimes in my pocket I hear the phone booting and there a sound of Samsung logo. Tried every thing hard reset. No apps just stock but no success. I downloaded a stock rom and installed through odin but no changes. Phone sometimes freezes and then reboots and then continues to work normal till some time and same procedure again and again, I didn’t count reboots but maybe 20 a day. Question : does Samsung replace if you install a stock rom I mean an original rom but from different country (no root) just a original rom. Thanks in advance.

Answer: When you say “after 2 days” it means after you manipulated the firmware, right? It sounds like there’s something you did that you won’t tell us about, so there’s no point in troubleshooting. I am sure this problem started because the firmware was manipulated in one way or another. But since you asked us a question, then my answer is NO, Samsung won’t replace the unit if the user manipulated the firmware. Oh well, if you can fool Samsung and its technicians, maybe the unit will be replaced. But good luck with that!

Galaxy S6 Contact Issue

Problem: Hope you can help me with this problem. After going through the setup of my S6 including adding my Gmail and Sympatico email accounts I find that the Contacts app/button on the desktop only has the contacts from my Gmail address book from my contacts online. When I view my gmail app on my phone and view the list of available contacts there the list is much larger. When I view my Sympatico.ca email on the regular email app on my phone it also has a similar number of contacts. I have the Contact to Display set to All Contacts under settings. When I do a written or voice lookup when in the Contact app it finds the contacts from the other lists, it just does not show them in the available list. ReSyncing did not help. I also tried deleting and adding back both of my email accounts.

How do I populate the contact list within the Contact app on my desktop to contain all my contacts? — Bruce

Workaround: Hey Bruce. I’m not really familiar with Sympatico.co email so I will stick with Gmail. I can’t explain why syncing your online accounts won’t download your contacts to your phone but there’s a workaround to that.

  1. Login to your Gmail account using a web browser ( I recommend using a computer or laptop for this).
  2. Once logged in, click on the small arrow (pointing down) located at the upper-left corner of the page beside the word “Gmail.”
  3. Choose Contacts.
  4. A new page will pop up and will display all your contacts.
  5. Click on Export.
  6. Make sure the radio button beside All contacts is ticked.
  7. Choose vCard format.
  8. Click Export button.
  9. Copy the the .vcf file to the microSD card or your phone and import it from your phone.

That’s pretty much it!

Galaxy S6 Hangs Up While Dialing

Problem: When I select a number from the call log to dial, my phone initiates the dialing process, but quickly hangs up before the phone can ring. Is there anyway to fix this? I’ve have this problem since I purchased the phone last month. — Pier

Troubleshooting: Does the phone do that if you try to dial a number from your Contacts list? I encountered a problem like this before but with Galaxy S4. The phone couldn’t initiate the call if the number dialed was from the call log. However, if the same number is dialed from the Contacts list, the call goes through. We couldn’t explain why it happened but the solution was to clear the cache and data of the Dialer (phone) app. So, I want you to try that.

However, if the phone does the same with your contacts on the Contacts list, then call your service provider as it is obviously a service issue.

How To Forget WiFi Network on Galaxy S6

Question: Hi, I just upgraded to this phone and wanted to add in my home wireless network. I believe I put in an incorrect password. It just continues to search for networks but will not access mine. I am wondering how to reset it so that I can reenter the password.

Answer: Hi Lynn. To forget a saved Wi-Fi network on your phone, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Scroll to the Network connections section.
  4. Tap Wi-Fi.
  5. Turn it on if necessary.
  6. Choose the Wi-Fi network you want to delete.
  7. Select Forget.
  8. Now let your phone scan for it and enter the correct password this time.

Galaxy S6 Keeps Prompting To Update Apps

Problem: Hi guys! I just have a quick question for you. How do you prevent Galaxy S6 from always telling me that I need to update my apps. I understand Google wants us to have our apps updated but as of now, my phone is doing great with the current versions of apps I am using. I had a bad experience with apps update so as much as possible, I want to avoid them. But I don’t know how to do that. There’s nothing in my phone settings that says to prevent updates. Help me please. — Maricar

Troubleshooting: Hi Maricar! I understand clearly why you don’t want to update your apps and you’re right, there’s nothing in the Settings of your phone that will prevent these auto-updates. There is, however, a setting in the Play Store app that will give you just want you want.

  1. Open Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap the Menu icon located at the upper-left represented by three horizontal lines.
  3. Choose Settings from the options.
  4. Tap Automatic app updates.
  5. Select Do not auto-update apps.

And that’s all you need to do.

Galaxy S6 LED Notifications Don’t Light Up

Problem: Hello droid guys. I need your help. I’m a bit confused because I have upgraded from Galaxy S5 to S6. before, all I need to do to know if there were some messages, emails or missed calls was to look at the LED indicator in the upper part of the screen. Now, with S6, I haven’t seen one single light ever since I bought the phone more than two weeks ago. How can I make those LED indicators light up? Does the S6 even have those things? Troubleshooting: Hi Josie. I will answer your question first. Yes, the Galaxy S6 has LED indicator as well and it works like the indicators of its predecessors. The reason why the indicator doesn’t light up in your phone is because may be it was turned off. So, I need you to check on that:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Find and tap Settings to open it.
  3. Touch Sounds and notifications.
  4. LED indicator must be one of the options you can on the screen now.
  5. Tap on the slider button to turn it on.

And that’s it!

Disabling Clash of Clans Notifications on Galaxy S6

Problem: Hi! I found your email online so I thought I would ask you a question. I play the popular game Clash of Clans and while I love the game, it’s merely just a game that I play to pass time. However, it’s bugging me off because of its notifications that come in almost every second or so. How can I stop that? Oh, by the way, my phone is a Galaxy S6. It’s pretty new and it’s my first Android so I’m not really savvy with it yet. Can you help me please. — Josh

Troubleshooting: Hey Josh! No worries, you can easily disable or block it’s notifications. Just follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Find and tap Settings to open it.
  3. Touch Sounds and notifications.
  4. Under the Notifications section, tap App notifications.
  5. Scroll to and tap on Clash of Clans.
  6. Now feel free to Block notifications for the app.

Now, you won’t be notified if you are under siege.
