Aside from its striking wraparound screen design, Samsung’s best-looking handset, the Galaxy S6 Edge also sports a number of built-in features and applications for owners to use in everyday living.

Apps and services available on the S6 Edge smartphone may vary from carrier to carrier. To save some space on the phone’s internal memory, some major carriers in the United States have opted to remove less functional apps and retain those that are deemed essential. Among these apps are the following:

Browsing the Web with the Galaxy S6 Edge Internet App

Browsing the web for contents and/or entertainment is primarily done through the Edge Internet browser application.

Internet App Browser

One of the built-in applications embedded in the Galaxy S6 Edge is the Internet app for browsing contents over the web.

Note: Don’t forget to enable Wi-Fi before using the Internet browser.

Accessing the internet using the Internet browser is done with the following steps:

  1. Touch Internet from the Home screen. Doing so will open or launch the Internet application.
  2. Tap the URL field (address bar), and then type in the desired URL or website address to visit.
  3. Touch Go on the keypad to continue.

Using Bookmarks with Internet Application

  1. To view and manage bookmarks, tap Bookmarks beneath the screen. Bookmarks comprised a list of your favorite websites (URLs) that are saved as Favorites. In case you don’t see the Bookmarks icon, scroll to the top of the page to show the Bottom navigation bar containing Bookmarks.
  2. If you want to add the current page in to your bookmark pages, tap Add.
  3. Edit or make some changes to the bookmark settings if you want, then tap Save. The page will then be added to your bookmarks.
  4. To visit a bookmarked site or page, simply tap it.
  5. If you want to open a new tab, tap Tabs (at the bottom of the screen).
  6. Tap New Tab to continue.
  7. To manage browser tabs, tap on Tabs again. You can see the number of open browser tabs is shown on the Tabs icon.
  8. To close a tab, swipe right over it.
  9. To open a tab, tap on it.

Clearing Internet Browser Data

Various data such as cache and cookies, are temporarily stored in the browser memory every time you use your phone’s Internet browser. In case you notice your Internet browser is becoming slow or have problems loading websites, clearing the browser’s data may help. Here’s how to clear Internet browser data on your S6 Edge phone:

  1. Touch Internet from the Home screen. The Internet browser displays.
  2. On the Internet browser, touch More to view additional options.
  3. Scroll to and touch to select Settings.
  4. Under Internet settings, scroll to and touch to select Privacy.
  5. Touch Delete personal data.
  6. You will be prompted with the Delete personal data screen. Mark the checkboxes for Cache, and Cookies and site data.
  7. Touch Delete.
  8. Wait for your phone to complete deleting cache and cookies from the Internet browser. Once done, you can open the Internet app again and try to visit a website.

Galaxy S6 Edge Organizer Apps

Your Galaxy S6 Edge can also be used as an organizer. With its Calendar application, you can create and manage important events, appointments, and meetings. That being said, you can organize your time and be reminded of your important appointments.

Galaxy S6 Edge Calendar

Normally, your phone’s Calendar stays in sync with your Calendar on Google Calendar, Outlook calendar, Exchange ActiveSync calendar and Calendar on the Web. Yet, there may be some variations depending on your synchronization settings. Follow these simple guides to make use of your phone’s Calendar app.

Adding an Event to the S6 Edge Calendar

Here are the steps to add events to your calendar directly from your phone’s Calendar app:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Calendar to open the app.
  3. Touch the New (+) icon to open the Add Event screen.
  4. Start creating your event by entering an event title, start date/time, end date/time, etc.
  5. After entering all necessary information, touch Save. The event will then be added to your calendar.

Useful Tips:

  • In case you have more than once calendar, choose a calendar by tapping the current Calendar on the Add Event screen.
  • To create an event that will display on your phone, choose My Calendars.
  • To create a Google Calendar event, choose your Google Account.
  • If you have more than one Google Calendars on the Web, choose one in which you want to add your event.
  • Multiple Google Calendars can be created only in Google Calendar on the Web. You will only be able to see them in your phone’s Calendar application, after creating them in Google Calendar on the Web.
  • To create an event that will sync with your Samsung account, choose Samsung Calendar.
  • To create an event that will sync with your Outlook or Exchange account, choose your Outlook or Exchange account.

Viewing Calendar Events on the S6 Edge

There are different ways to view the Calendar in your phone. You can view them in year, month, week, day, or task view. To change the Calendar view, simply touch the drop-down menu located on the upper-left edge, and then touch an option to select. Here’s how:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Calendar to open the application.
  3. Touch a date, and then touch an event to view the event details.
  4. To view and edit the event details, tap the event.

Sharing Calendar Events on the S6 Edge

After creating a Calendar event, you can share it with others using different methods. Here’s how to share events with your phone’s camera app:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Calendar.
  3. Touch a date, and then touch an event to view details.
  4. Touch Share from the event details screen.
  5. When prompted with the Share as options, select any from the given choices. You may opt to share an event as an event file (VCS) or as text.
  6. Choose a sharing method from the Share via screen, and then follow the onscreen instructions to send the Event information.

Sync Calendars on the S6 Edge

Choose which calendars you want to sync on your phone, along with what types of information you want to sync with the following steps:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Calendar.
  3. Touch More from the Calendar screen.
  4. Touch to select Manage calendars from the given options.
  5. Tap the On/Off switch next to each item to choose sync options.
  6. Wait for the selected calendar to completely sync.

Sync and Exchange ActiveSync Calendar on the S6 Edge

You can also sync Exchange ActiveSync calendar events on your phone. All you need is to set up a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account beforehand. If you opt to sync with the Exchange ActiveSync Server, calendar events on your Exchange ActiveSync account will also appear in Calendar.

Here’s how to check if Exchange ActiveSync items are set to be synchronized on your device:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Accounts.
  4. Touch Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.

Hints:

  • If you don’t see Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync under the Accounts heading in the Settings menu, it means you don’t have an Exchange ActiveSync account configured on your device.
  • You will know when your Exchange ActiveSync account is set for synchronization if the On/Off switch next to Sync Calendar is turned ON.

Galaxy S6 Edge Clock App

You can use your phone as better alternative to a wristwatch or clock. With the Clock application, you can set alarms, view time zones around the world, use a stopwatch, set a timer, and use your phone as a desk clock.

Normally, the current time appears in the upper-right edge of the Status Bar allowing you to easily check time on the go. The current time is also displayed on different widgets and lock screens, along with options on how time is shown.

Your wireless network automatically feeds the current date and time on your phone. Setting the date and time manually is done by overriding the default setting. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Scroll to and touch Date and time under System.
  4. Set/configure available date and time options.
  5. To turn off Automatic date and time and manually set the date and time, tap the On/Off switch next to the option.
  6. To turn off Automatic time zone and manually select a time zone, tap the On/Off switch next to the option.

How to set Alarms on the S6 Edge Clock

You can set multiple alarms on your phone. Follow these steps to set alarms with your phone’s Clock app:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Clock.
  3. Touch Alarm.
  4. Set the alarm options including, days, time, and repeat pattern.
  5. To view more options, touch Options.
  6. After setting the alarm options, touch Save to save the alarm.

Hints:

  • An indication that the alarm is saved and active is the Alarm icon displayed in the Status Bar.
  • Your phone then sounds the alarm and/or vibrates at the set alarm time.
  • To dismiss the alarm when it sounds, simply drag the Dismiss Alarm (X) icon left or right.

How to view World Clock with the Galaxy S6 Edge Clock app

You can use your phone to view the current time in multiple cities around the world using World Clock. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Clock.
  3. Touch World Clock.
  4. To add a city to your list, tap a city, and then touch the Add City icon (+).
  5. Follow the same steps to add multiple cities.

How to use Stopwatch with the Clock App on S6 Edge

The S6 Edge Clock app also features a Stopwatch that will let you time events down to the hundredth of a second. Here’s how to access and use Stopwatch with your phone’s Clock app:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Clock.
  3. Touch Stopwatch.
  4. Tap Start to begin timing, and top Stop to end.

Hint: You can also use additional options such as Lap (to keep track of laps), Resume (to continue timing), and Reset (to reset the stopwatch to zero).

How to use Clock app Timer on S6 Edge

Your phone’s Clock app also features a Timer with a countdown timer of up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Clock.
  3. Touch Timer.
  4. Tap Keypad, and then set the length of the timer using the keypad.
  5. To begin the timer, tap Start.

Using the S6 Edge Memo Application

With the Galaxy S6 Edge Memo app, you can save text, memos, lists, and other relevant information. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Samsung.
  3. Touch Memo to display the memo list.
  4. Touch the Add Memo (+) icon, and then enter a title and text for your memo.
  5. After entering necessary information, touch Save to save your memo.

Using the S6 Edge My Files Application

My Files is an application used to manage sounds, images, videos, Bluetooth files, Android file, and other contents in one convenient location. With this app, you can open a file if the associated app is already installed on your phone. Here’s how to use My Files on your phone:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Samsung.
  3. Touch My Files to view different file folders such as Recent files, Images, Videos, Audio, Documents, Download History, Shortcuts, Local storage, and Cloud storage. Each of these folders is named based on the type of file it contains.

Note: Available folders may vary depending on how you configured your device.

Viewing Files in My Files

Follow these steps to view and open files in My Files:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Samsung.
  3. Touch My Files.
  4. To view files or folders category, tap a category.
  5. To open a file/folder, tap the file or folder.

Voice Control Application (S Voice)

The Galaxy S6 Edge comes with a new S Voice feature that recognizes your voice commands right away and launches applications in just a matter of seconds. Routine procedures are simplified with One Shot Command.

With the Samsung S Voice application, you can use your voice to perform operations you would normally have to do by hand, like dialing a phone number, sending text messages, or playing music on your device. Here’s how to use voice control on your S6 Edge smartphone.

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch S Voice.
  3. If prompted, review all the terms and conditions, and mark the checkbox to Agree to them. Touch Next to continue.
  4. Read the instructions on the next screen and touch Start.
  5. Repeat the voice command you want to use to wake up your phone four times in a row.
  6. You will be prompted with the Processing screen after four repetitions. Review the given examples on how to use S Voice to complete an action.
  7. Touch Done. To re-calibrate your voice, touch Try Again.
  8. Speak to your phone. Touch the blue bar to wake up S Voice, if needed.
  9. To continue with this guide, say “Weather.” In response to your request, S Voice will display the weather forecast for your area.
  10. To access additional settings for S Voice, touch the Settings icon on the lower-left edge of the screen.
  11. Review all available settings like enabling S Voice on the lock screen, and adjusting the language.
  12. To go back to the Apps menu, touch the Back key.

To use a different S Voice command for your phone to carry out, just follow the same steps.

Galaxy S6 Edge GPS, Maps and Navigation System

Google Maps is an application used to determine your location, find directions, browse local business and attractions sites, or rate and review places with your phone.

Google Maps App

To use this feature, you need to turn on your phone’s Location feature beforehand. Once enabled, you can start using Google Maps to locate and map a specific address or destination. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Google.
  3. Touch Maps to open Google Maps. You may be prompted to accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy the first time you access Maps on your phone. To continue, simply tap Accept & Continue.
  4. To start a location search, tap in the search box.
  5. Enter necessary information such as an address, city, facility name, etc., and then tap any of the results. A map of the specified location then appears.

More Hints:

  • To view your current location, by tapping the My Location icon from the Maps app.
  • To obtain useful area information for current location, tap the Search field, enter the information you are searching for, and then tap a result to view it.
  • To view traffic information, aerial photos, etc., tap the Menu icon, and then tap Traffic, Satellite, Google Earth, etc.
  • To check route to Destination, tap the Route icon, enter your current location and your destination, and then tap a method of transport, to view available routes.
  • To check on detailed operation for Maps, tap the Menu icon from the Maps app, and then tap Help.

Google Search/Voice Search App

As the name implies, Google Search is used to find information on your phone and around the world by typing the search terms in the Google Search bar. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch the Google folder icon.
  3. Touch the Google search icon to open the search window.
  4. When prompted with a description for Google Now, tap What can Google Now do?, and then read the information. If you want to use Google Now, tap Yes, I’m In on the last page.
  5. Enter your search keywords and tap Search to begin your search. The search results will then appear. If you want to search by voice, tap the Google Voice Search icon (microphone figure) in the search bar and then speak your search terms.

Hints:

  • Press the Back key from the main Google Search screen to set Google Search options.
  • To change search information, tap the Menu icon in the search window, tap Settings, tap Phone search, and choose where to search.
  • To enable Google Now, tap the Menu icon in the search window, tap Settings, tap Now cards, and then tap the On/Off switch next to Show cards.
  • To disable Google Now, tap the Menu icon in the search window, tap Settings, tap Now cards, and then tap the On/Off switch next to Show cards. Tap Turn Off to confirm action.

Galaxy S6 Edge Music, Photos, and Videos

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge also feature a number applications for entertainment purposes. These would include Music, Video, Voice Recorder, and Gallery for photos. Read on to learn how to use and manage each of these applications on your device.

Music App

The Music app is used for playing music/audio files on your device. You can also use it to browse your music library, play songs, and create playlists of your favorite tracks. The app can also be used to set songs as ringtones for incoming calls, or as alarm tones for your phone. Here’s how to Play Music with the music app:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Music to open the music app.
  3. The active category is set to Playlists. To change it, tap the drop-down list on the upper-left edge and then tap a category to display. Among the available categories (default) include Playlists, Tracks, Albums, Artists, Genres, Folders, and Composers.
  4. To start playing a song, scroll through the list and tap a song to play.

Hint: While the music is playing, you will be prompted with different controls for you to use such as Pause, Start, Previous, Forward, and the like. To use these controls, simply tap on any of them while the song is playing.

How to Create Playlists

You can create your own playlists comprising of songs you like. Here’s how:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Music.
  3. Touch the drop-down list in the upper-left corner and then tap Playlists.
  4. Use any of the given options.

Hints:

  • To play songs from an existing playlists, tap the playlist.
  • To create a new playlist, tap the Create Playlist (+) icon, enter a name for your playlist and then tap Create.
  • To add songs from the Tracks list to your playlist, tap the songs, and then tap Done when you’re finished adding songs. Your new playlist will then be saved under My Playlist.
  • To edit a playlist, tap it from the list and then tap Add to add more songs, or tap More to view other options like Edit, Rename, and Settings for the playlist.

How to access Music app Options and Settings

Follow these steps to view and manage options and settings of the Music application on your phone:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Music.
  3. Touch More to view additional options.

Note: Available options may vary depending on the selected category. To use an option, simply tap on it.

How to set Music as Ringtone

You can choose a music file from your device and use it as a ringtone. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Scroll to and touch Sounds and notifications.
  4. Touch Ringtones and sounds.
  5. Touch Ringtone.
  6. Scroll to and touch to select Add ringtone.
  7. Double-touch Sound picker, if necessary.
  8. Touch a track/song to select it.
  9. Touch Done. To play only selected parts of the track as the ringtone, mark the checkbox next to Highlights only.
  10. Touch Done to save/apply changes.

Voice Recorder App

The Voice Recorder app on the Galaxy S6 Edge lets you record an audio file up to one minute long, and then share it immediately. Recording time may vary depending on the available memory in the phone.

Here’s how to use Voice Recorder to make a voice recording on your device:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Samsung.
  3. Touch Voice Recorder.
  4. To select the appropriate recording mode, touch the drop-down list in the upper-left corner.
  5. Touch to select a recording mode. Among the available modes include Standard, Interview, and Voice memo.

Hints:

  • Standard mode is used for picking up any sounds detected by the microphones.
  • Interview mode used for two-directional recording with the top and bottom microphones. Both microphones pick up equal amounts of sound. You can also mute microphones during recording and playback.
  • Voice memo is used to convert voice input to text on screen. The maximum recording time with this mode is five minutes.
  1. To use Voice Recorder controls while recording voices, simply tap on a control to use like Record, Pause, Stop, Cancel, and more.

How to Playback a Voice Recording

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Samsung.
  3. Touch Voice Recorder.
  4. Touch the Recordings icon.
  5. Touch a recording to play it back.
  6. Tap to use any of the given tools during playback like Repeat, Speed, Skip muted, Bookmark, and Trim.

How to share a Voice Recording

To share a voice recording, follow these steps:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Samsung.
  3. Touch Voice Recorder.
  4. Touch the Recordings icon, and then touch and hold on a recording to view options.
  5. Touch the More icon, then select Share.
  6. Follow the onscreen prompts to select a method and share the file.

How to modify or edit a Voice recording

Here’s how to edit a voice recording with the Voice recorder app on the S6 Edge:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Samsung.
  3. Touch Voice Recorder.
  4. Touch the Recordings icon, and then touch and hold a recording to select it.
  5. To display options, touch More. Available options include Share, Rename, Write to Voice Label.

Hints:

  • Touch Share to share the voice recording.
  • Touch Rename to change the name of the voice recording.
  • Touch Write to Voice Label to save the voice recording to a Voice Label through NFC.

How to delete a Voice Recording

If you want to erase or delete a voice recording, follow these steps:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Samsung.
  3. Touch Voice Recorder.
  4. Touch the Recordings icon.
  5. Touch and hold on a recording to select it.
  6. Touch Delete.
  7. Confirm deletion by touching Delete again.

Gallery App

The Gallery application on the S6 Edge allows you to view photos and videos you have captured with your phone. You can access/edit functions, set a picture as a contact photo or wallpaper, or share the picture with this app, too. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Gallery.
  3. Touch Time to view other display options.

Hint: The default display is by Time. Other options include Albums, Events, Categories, and Picasa.

  1. To continue with this guide, touch Albums.
  2. To create additional albums, set it to Albums view, and then touch More.
  3. Touch Create album to continue.
  4. Enter a name for the new album.
  5. Touch Create.
  6. Choose photos from existing albums by marking the checkboxes on the photos.
  7. Touch Done when you’re done selecting.
  8. To move the photos from the original location to the new folder, touch Move.
  9. To create duplicates of the photos, touch Copy.
  10. To continue with this guide, touch Copy.
  11. The album will then be created and automatically arranged among existing folders in alphabetical order.

Video App

With the Video application, you can play videos stored on your phone, or from other devices. You can also use the app to play videos synced from your other devices, by signing in to your Samsung account. Here’s how to use the Video app on the S6 Edge:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Video.
  3. Scroll through the videos stored on your device.
  4. Wait for a few seconds, and then each video thumbnail starts playing a preview of the clip.
  5. To view the entire video, tap on it.

The Video app also offers a Multitask feature with Pop-Up Play. It’s used to transform your video player into a pop-up window floating on the screen. You can resize or move the pop-up screen while continue playing the video. Here’s how to use Pop-Up Play with the Video app on S6 Edge:

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch Video.
  3. Touch a video to view.
  4. To display playback options, tap the screen.
  5. Touch Pop-up.

A floating window displays with the video playing on. To move the floating window, drag it to any location on the screen. To resize it, use two fingers to pinch or spread.

Galaxy S6 Edge Fitness Application

Just like the other fitness gadgets, you can also use your S6 Edge smartphone to stay fit with a service called S Health. To help you achieve your health and fitness targets, the application provides you with intuitive charts and helpful tips.

S Health App

The improved S Health feature on the Galaxy S6 Edge can serve as your personal fitness coach. With this app, you can set goals, monitor your everyday activities, reach new milestones and take the leap to better health and a better you.

To help you get started, here’s a quick guide for you to create an S Health Profile on your S6 Edge device:

  1. Touch Apps from the Home screen.
  2. Touch S Health to open the app.
  3. A welcome screen containing Terms and conditions and Privacy Policy displays. You may choose to review the terms and conditions and privacy policy now or later. Touch Agree to All to proceed.
  4. The Auto Sync screen follows. Enabling this option will let you sync any S Health data stored on your Samsung account. To turn this feature on, touch the slider next to Sync. Once Sync is enabled, you can touch the slider next to Sync via Wi-Fi only to turn it on. To continue with this guide, touch Next.
  5. To complete your profile, enter the requested information, and then touch Next.
  6. Touch Get Started to continue.
  7. Once you’ve created your profile, you will see your name on top of the screen with the default goal that says, “Be more active.” You can view more features by scrolling to the bottom of the screen.
  8. If you want to add more items to your S Health page, touch More on upper-right edge of the next screen.
  9. Touch to select Manage items from the given options.
  10. Under Manage items screen, you will see different items under Tracker. You can turn any of these items on or off by toggling the switch next to them. To continue with this guide, touch the On/Off switch next to Food to enable it. To view other items you can add to your page, touch Goals or Programs.
  11. To return to your S Health page, touch the Back key. You will then see Food is already added in your items list.

Check your Heart Rate with S Health

With S Health, can you turn your phone into a personal-health management and use it to keep track health statistics including weight and heart rate. Here’s how to check your heart rate with the S6 Edge S Health application.

  1. Touch Apps from Home.
  2. Touch S Health to launch the app.
  3. Scroll to and touch Add on the Heart rate tracker. If Heart rate is not yet on your S Health page, touch More, select Manage items, and then add Heart rate to your page.
  4. Touch Measure to continue.
  5. Now place your finger on the sensor. For best results, do not press your finger too hard and make sure your fingertip is placed on the center of the sensor. Also limit your movements.
  6. Wait for your device to calculate your current heart rate in beats per minute (BPM).
  7. To assign an activity status to the measurement, touch one of the status icons.
  8. To continue with this guide, touch Resting from the current status options.
  9. Touch Save.
  10. Next, touch Trends.
  11. You can also view your heart rate in chart format. To return to the heart rate measurement screen, touch Track.
  12. To retake your heart rate when you’re exercising, touch Measure.

Wait until S Health is done measuring your heart rate again.

You can also download and install third-party applications from the Play Store, if you want to add and use more applications you need for your device.
