S2 Won’t Turn On

Problem: Hello. I left my s2 charging overnight, I won’t turn on the next morning. I got it checked , he said motherboard is dead. I don’t believe him though. So I’ve searched stuff on the internet. I found one removing the capacitor. So I did it. But nothing happened. Do you think I should just dump the phone? Or is there any fix you know? Please reply asap.

Solution: If the technician who checked your phone says that it is a motherboard issue then it probably is. You should however do all the necessary initial checking before changing the motherboard. This includes changing the battery and charger, cleaning the USB port of your phone, taking out the SIM and microSD, and connecting the phone to a computer to check if it gets recognized.

S2 WhatsApp / BBM Not Working

Problem: WhatsApp and BBM are not working over mobile data on my Samsung galaxy s2. How do I fix this?

Solution: Have you checked if other apps can go online when you use your mobile data? If they can’t then this may be a connection related concern. Try to check first if you have a data subscription and if you have a good data signal.

If you have a confirmed good mobile data signal then the next step that you should do is to uninstall both the WhatsApp and BBM app then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold both Volume Up and Volume Down keys at the same time.
  • Press the Power key only until the phone vibrates once, then release only the Power key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume up and Volume Down keys until the Android System Recovery screen appears.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Home or Power key to select.
  • Make sure Reboot System Now is highlighted and press the Home (or Power key) to reboot.

Now go to the Google Play Store then download the latest versions of both apps.

S2 Apps Don’t Work

Problem: Hello, my husband has a galaxy 2 for couple year. The problem is its apps are not working, but no problem with calling or texting. Whenever trying to open an app, it says “there’s a problem, try later.” Is there any solution for it? Thanks.

Solution: If this error message occurs in all the apps you try to open then you will need to perform a factory reset as this may already be caused by a corrupt software. Before proceeding make sure to make a backup of your phone data.

  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight wipe data / factory reset.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight Yes – Delete all user data.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Power key to reboot.

S2 Stuck In Safe Mode

Problem: My samsung phone is stuck on a permanent safe mode.i have restarted removed the battery overnight and even restored the factory settings but still can’t get out off safe mode.

Solution: Try to restart your phone by following the steps listed below.

  • Remove battery while device is on.
  • Leave battery out for 1-2 minutes.
  • Place the battery back into the phone.
  • Push in the Power button to turn on
  • Let device power on without holding any buttons as normal.

If the phone till boots in Safe Mode then you should check if you have a stuck volume button. If the volume button of your phone is stuck then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S2 No Sound When Using Wi-Fi Calling

Problem: Hello – My phone works well expect at home when using WIFI calling.  Callers can hear me but I can not hear them.  I do not hear the dialing when I call but the phone rings on incoming calls. This is an issue since I have moved to the country and there is no cell service. Wifi calling works when out and signing into a business wifi.

Solution: If Wi-Fi calling works normally when your phone is connected to another network then this may be a router related issue.

Try to restart your router then check if the issue still persists. If it does then you will need to consult the manual of the router and check its settings. The device may have a security setting enabled that is causing this issue.

It’s also possible that your ISP may be the cause of this issue. Try to contact them and have them check if there are any issues with your connection.

S2 Does Not Charge

Problem: My phone wont charge all it shows is a blue led light and i got a new charger and no doesn’t work i don’t want to buy a new battery what can i do

Solution: You can try to clean the charging port of your phone. Most of the time dirt or lint gets into this port and affects the charging process. Use a toothpick when cleaning the port.

If the problem still persists then I suggest you really get a new battery as this issue may be caused by a faulty battery.

S2 Wi-Fi Does Not Switch On

Problem: Dear Droidguy, I’ve been reading your blog, but I did not find an answer to my problem. Just yesterday, on my galaxySII, I just cannot swich on the wifi . the bar goes to the right, but does not turn green and after a few seconds, comes bask left. I just don’t know what to do. Is it possible to repair?

Solution: You should first check if this issue is caused by an app you installed in your phone by starting your phone in Safe Mode.

  • Remove the battery from the phone.
  • Re-insert the battery.
  • Press and hold the Menu key.
  • While holding the Menu key, turn on the device.
  • When you see the lock screen, you can release the Menu key.
  • ‘Safe mode’ displays in the lower-left corner.

Turn on your phone Wi-Fi. If it turns on normally then the issue may be caused by a third party app installed in your phone. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

If however the issue still persists even in Safe Mode then you should restart your phone in normal mode, back up your phone data, then do a factory reset.

  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight wipe data / factory reset.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight Yes – Delete all user data.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Power key to reboot.

If the issue still persists then this may already be due to a faulty hardware. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Solution: Make sure that your phone does not have a case installed as this may be affecting the call performance. If the problem still persists then this may be caused by the noise reduction feature of the phone. Try to disable this and check if the issue still persists.

  • Dialer Screen -> Menu Key -> Call Settings -> Additional Settings -> Uncheck Noise reduction (Disable it) -> Make a call

S2 Charging Issue

Problem: My galaxy S2 stopped charging. Have replaced charging port 2 times now. New battery also. When I plug in the charger it showes charging battery for about 2 seconds. S2 Acts On Its Own

Problem: I am very glad to find you on the website, and really hope you can help me to fix the trouble has happened in my phone, Samsung Galaxy s2. The problem is that my phone suddenly start to run by itself, as if someone in side my phone and keep pressing the phone numbers, apps and so on. So I couldn’t use my phone at all. I have tried everything you can name it even did the reset factory mode, but the phone is still controlled by the inside some virus? but not me. I don’t have any idea regarding what happened inside of my phone and hope you can give me a suggestion I can try it. Thanks.

Solution: If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue then there must be something wrong with the phone hardware. The best way to get an accurate diagnosis is to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S2 Battery Drain / Heating Issue

Problem: Hi, I was just wondering if you could help me out.  What it is I have a Samsung galaxy s2, it could be 100% then drain the battery like no tomorrow, it really overheats and turns it self off? Just wondering if you knew what was up?

Solution: The first thing to check is your phone settings. Do you have any unnecessary services switched on? If you have then try turning them off. These includes Wi-Fi, mobile data, Bluetooth, GPS, etc.

The next thing you should check is if a certain app is causing this issue. Start your phone in Safe Mode to check on this.

If you do not experience any heating or battery drain issue in this mode then it may be caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.

If the issue persists you should back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight wipe data / factory reset.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight Yes – Delete all user data.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Power key to reboot.

Check your phone. If the problem still remains then try replacing your phone battery as well as its microSD card if one is installed.

S2 No KitKat Update

Problem: Hi, I enjoy reading your articles about Android devices! I own a sg2 with its original ROM from my carrier (I9100T JILS4) and OS 4.1.2. I tried few times to update my OS version to KitKat with no success. Do you have a comprehensive manual of how to install KitKat for gs2 ? Do you recommend do so at all? Thank You!

Solution: I’d definitely recommend that you get KitKat on your phone. If your device is not rooted and is running on stock software you can use Kies to update your phone. Just connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Kies then let it check for any new software updates.

S2 Boot Loop Issue

Problem: Hello, when I press the power button the phone will turn on and go to the Samsung Galaxy SII screen. Then it the screen turns black, and it automatically turns back on again to that scree again and then off again. This error started recently and I have not been able to turn my phone on since. I have tried all the usual resets, and it does nothing. The screen just turns on and then off again until I pull out the battery. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks

Solution: Since you already did a reset you can try to take out the microSD of your phone and check if the boot loop issue still occurs. If it does then restart your phone using the procedure listed below.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Take out the battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least a minute
  • Reinsert the battery
  • Turn on your phone.

If the issue persists then you may have to reflash your phone software. Instructions on how to reflash your phone can be found at most of the popular Android forums online.

S2 Missing Applications

Problem: Hi there, I went over many of the past issues in the web site, as was suggested, but could not see this problem?  My Samsung Galaxy S2 has lost the applications notably the ones i use most – Maps, Twitter, F/b, Instagram and also the Google play centre.  Plus the solitaire game.    I have taken it to my store, and they say replace the S/D card,  My applications manager from the settings, is showing the SD card in grey and the android symbol only.  The applications are gone?  Will replacing the SD card do the trick?  I note all my gallery pics are in memory, my text message history, and everything else is working fine.  I have not had major issues with the phone, which is why i have kept it.  Also new phones are very expensive.  Thanks in advance.

Solution: The microSD of your phone may have some corrupt sectors that is causing this issue. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first and see if this resolves the problem.

If the issue persists then try to replace the microSD card.
