Note 3 Can’t Open Downloads Sent Through Text

Problem: Hello I am not able to open up any downloads that are sent thru text I have no problem with them sent thru email. Also when I send a group text the recipient only sees it as a single text and not a group. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Solution: To be able to open downloads sent through text message you should use your mobile data connection instead of a Wi-Fi connection. Make sure that your account has an active mobile data subscription.

If you still can’t open the any downloads then check the APN settings of your phone and make sure that it matches the one your network is using.

  • From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap the Connections tab.
  • Tap More networks.
  • Tap Mobile networks.
  • Tap Access Point Names.

Tap on the available APN and compare its settings with the ones your network is using.

Note 3 Can’t End Calls After Lollipop Update

Problem: My Note 3 won’t let me end calls most of the time. The red phone is visible letting me know I can end the call, but pushing it does nothing. Only started after the update. There’s been several issues but this one is by far the most annoying. Please help me fix the issue. Thanks

Solution: Have you restarted your phone since the software update? If not, then try to restart your phone since this may just be a glitch in the software.

If you still can’t end the call then try wiping the cache partition of your phone.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When ‘GALAXY Note III’ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
  • With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

If the problem persists then you have to do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’

Note 3 Bluetooth Turns Off On Its Own

Problem: Hi, I’m having some trouble with my Bluetooth function. I recently tried to pair it with my windows laptop and it started misbehaving: going off on it’s on after just a few seconds of being on. It’s never done that before. how can I get resolve this?

Solution: If the Bluetooth feature of your phone turns off and not just disconnects its connection from the laptop then this issue may be caused by a third party app installed in your phone.

To check if this is the case you have to start your phone in Safe Mode and verify if the problem still persists.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

If the issue disappears then you will have to find out what app you installed during the tie this started. Uninstall that app and check if the problem still occurs.

If the issue occurs even in Safe Mode then a factory reset is the next step that you should do. Before proceeding make sure to back up your phone data as this will be deleted in the process.

  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.

Solution: Are you using the stock browser app when accessing the Internet? If you are then the app may have some corrupt data that is causing this error. Clearing the cache and data of the browser usually solves this type of issue.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the General tab, tap Application manager.
  • Swipe left to the ALL tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the desired application.

  • Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
  • With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

Also, when i press send on a text that contains emojis, a message pops up that says “Message may be corrupted on recipient device. Note 3 Randomly Factory Reset

Problem: Hi there. I’ve been following your articles and they’ve been very useful. Thought I’d consult you regarding this issue I had with my Note 3 last night. I was charging my phone and went out for dinner. When I got back, the phone was resetting itself to factory settings. I didn’t touch any button when I charged the phone. Now all data on the phone has been wiped out. Is there a way to recover these data? Thanks for your help.

Solution: This is quite strange as this phone does not do a factory reset on its own. Was there no one else in the house when you left? Anyway, since your data has been wiped there is no way of retrieving it unless you previously made a backup copy.

Note 3 Internet Crashes When Saving An Image

Problem: Hi, I’m having problem with my note. Every time I try to save an image from the internet, the internet crashes and comes up with a message saying unfortunately the internet has stopped working. Would appreciate any assistance.

Solution: Are you using the stock browser when trying to save the image? If you are then the app may have some form of corrupt data that is causing this issue to occur. You need to clear the cache and data of the browser to resolve this issue.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the General tab, tap Application manager.
  • Swipe left to the ALL tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the desired application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • Tap Clear data.
  • The application cache and data is now cleared.

If the problem persists then try wiping the cache partition of your phone.

  • Turn off the device.

Note 3 Freezes When Phone Is Locked

Problem: Hi, I have had my note 3 for 7 months now and I haven’t had a problem until recently. My screen keeps freezing and going black, this is only happening when phone is locked not when using it. If it is on charge it will stop the current from charging the battery meaning I’m taking my phone off charge having to take out the battery to restart the phone and till only have very little charge even when left over night. This will also stop the alarm going off (making me late a though times to work). However sometimes when it does this I can hold in the lock button and I can hear the sound of it locking or unlocking, and sometimes it will come back on with the turn off/restart menu on show. I do not want to do a factory reset until I know for sure I need to do one as I have a lot of things saved to my phone that I do not want to loose. If you could give me a solution around this I will be very great full of it.

Solution: You will need to check first if a certain third party app installed in your phone is causing this issue. To do so you need to start your phone in Safe Mode.

If your phone does not freeze in this mode then the issue is most likely caused by a third party app. Find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs in Safe Mode then you will need to wipe the cache partition of your phone.

If the issue persists then your last option is to perform a factory reset.

  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

Note 3 Issues After Lollipop Update

Problem: My husband’s Verizon note 3 did the lollipop update last night. It completely changed the way his phone functions. The screen shows little information boxes such as who he talked to and when he last spoke to them. It loses phone signal in the middle of calls. It takes him off the current page in Facebook and moves him back to the previous page without him touching anything. Also, the lag is an issue. A few minutes after the update, he tried opening his browser and the screen flashed like a strobe light for about 5 minutes. We’d love to drop back to the kit kat 4.4, but aren’t sure if it’s possible being a Verizon phone. He also has tons of pictures and things within the phone that we don’t want to lose doing a reset. Anything you can do to help us would be amazing! Thanks.

Solution: Since the phone has multiple issues after getting the Lollipop update the best thing to do right now is to perform a factory reset. You will need to back up your phone data before performing this procedure. I recommend using Kies in the backup process. After the data has been secured then perform a factory reset.

  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

Note 3 Downgrading Back To KitKat From Lollipop

Problem: I’m having an issue with the new lollipop update for my note 3. I don’t like it at all. Is there any way that I can we go back to the way it was before the update? I would like to just remove the whole thing. I took a look at your website and I couldn’t find the answer to that.

Solution: Right now there is no official method to downgrade your software back to KitKat. If you really want to downgrade your phone software you need to make sure that it is rooted and has an unlocked bootloader. You also need a copy of the KitKat firmware for your phone as well as a software called Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to perform the downgrade can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 3 Headphone Symbol Appears In Notification

Problem: Hi I have a galaxy note 3 an when woke up this morning I have the head fone symbol permanently in the notification bar at the top. headphones are not plugged in I’ve never used head phones on this hand set. can u help me to try and fix it I’m In Cyprus at the moment an need to be able to call my husband at home In uk. I’d appreciate it if you could help

Solution: If you phone is stuck in headphone mode then try plugging and unplugging a pair of headphones a couple of times in the audio port of your phone. If the issue persists then pull out the phone battery while your phone is turned on then reinsert it after a few seconds.

If the phone is still stuck in headphone mode then you will need to perform a factory reset to eliminate any software related causes.

  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue then this may already be a hardware related problem. You will need to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 3 Not Installing Lollipop Update

Problem: I have been trying to download the latest update onto my phone and it goes through the whole motion and then reboots and after I swipe my phone to open it a little message pops up and tells me that the update was not installed. I was just wondering is there a way to fix this issue. I already done a factory reset on my phone I have tried everything I can think of. Thank you.

Solution: Try connecting your phone to a computer running on Kies and do the update from there.

  • Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable. Firmware upgrades are available only when you connect your device via the USB port.
  • Open Kies. When a new version of firmware is available, you will see a notice on the Basic information tab.
  • Click Firmware upgrade to start the upgrade process.
  • You will be taken through the backup process to preserve all of your data.

Note 3 Recovering Photos

Problem: Hi i recently dropped my phone into a glass of soda. I have alot of very valuable pictures on there that i am trying to get. I tried and put it in rice for 24 hours and for some reason that did not work. Is there any way i can get my photos i did not set up a drop box or any of them other accounts. when i plug in the phone with the charger the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 turns on and off you can see it very clear and it just keeps blinking … Can you please help me ??

Solution: Your phone needs to be turned on for you to be able to retrieve the photos stored in it. Since the phone has suffered water damage you need to bring it to an authorized service center and have it checked. There may be some components inside that got damaged by the water. Once these components get replaced and your phone turns on you will be able to retrieve your photos.

Note 3 Pictures Greyed Out After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi…I ran across your blog today during a search for anyone experiencing the problem described below. This problem — in addition to apps randomly uninstalling — began immediately after I ran the most recent Lollipop update: I have the Galaxy Note 3, on Sprint. –Since the most recent update most pictures I take with the phone’s camera — and I mean 5 out of every 6 pictures taken — show up on the phone as a gray thumbnail with a white silhouette in the middle and a black lighting bolt at the upper right. No actual photo appears in 5 out of 6 instances. I’ve experimented with Flash On, Flash Off, etc., and I get the same results. Have you seen this? What could be causing it? It is maddening. I took several photos a an event over the weekend, only to discover that only the gray thumbnail appeared. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Solution: This issue may be caused by some form of corrupt data on the camera application. Try clearing the cache and data of the camera app and see if this resolves the issue.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the General tab, tap Application manager.
  • Swipe left to the ALL tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Camera application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • Tap Clear data.
  • The application cache and data is now cleared.

If the problem still persists then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

If you are still getting greyed out photos then back up your phone data and perform a factory reset.

  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’

Note 3 Signal Loss Issue After Lollipop Update

Problem: After I installed lollipop 5.0 if I loose signal at any time the signal does not come back unless I restart My phone. It did not do this with Kit Kat. Any help will be appreciated.

Solution: If your phone only gets its signal back after a restart then a more permanent solution is to perform a factory reset. Back up your phone data before proceeding with the steps below.

  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

  • Swipe left to the ALL tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the desired application.
  • Tap Clear cache.

Note 3 No Service After Lollipop Update

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on Verizon and updated the firmware to Lollipop a couple of days ago.  Since that time I’ve virtually had ZERO service for phone or data.  Verizon says it’s not their problem, it’s an Android problem – their suggestion is to go back to a full / hard reset.  Would like different options

Solution: Have you checked your phone IMEI number? If it is missing then this might be the reason why your phone does not have a signal.

For a missing IMEI you can try doing a factory reset. If that does not work then you will need to reflash Lollipop manually to your phone.

Note 3 Front Camera Not Working

Problem: I updated my note 3 to lollipop and everything was working fine. After a week or so my front camera stopped working. Whenever i switch to front camera the screen go black and message appears saying camera is not responding. My model is SM-900. Rear camera is working fine but front one is not. I bought it back in august last year. Front camera was working fine until now. Please help. Thank you

Solution: Try clearing the cache and data of the camera app first and see if this resolves the issue.

If the problem persists then take out the microSD card of your phone and test the front camera. If it still does not work then back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue then this may be a hardware related problem. Bring you phone to an authorized service center for further checking.

Note 3 Can’t Write To SD Card After Lollipop Update

Problem: Dear Droidguy, Since the Android 5.0 upgrade, my micro SD card has stopped being able to write to it. Trying to move an app to the micro SD card is impossible. A window pops up saying the card is full (1.7 gb of 32gb used).  I talked to tech support both at the Greek Squad and AT&T. They said Google is aware of the problem. In the meantime, my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 continues to get a little slower since all of my data and apps are stored on the device. I’ve tried factory reset twice but still very the same messages. The micro SD card can be read; just no written to. Waiting for an OS fix could take months. One of the reasons I chose this smartphone was because of the SD card expandability. Now it is useless. Please tell me you have a work-around or a fix for this problem. I appreciate all of the help you’ve providing to all is Note 3 users.

Solution: This is currently the issue most people are facing with the current Lollipop update which hopefully will be resolved in future updates. There are some ways around this such as installing apps that allow you to save data on the microSD card, other methods that require a rooted phone, modifying the system software, etc. These methods may or may not work on your phone so you will have to experiment on which one works on your phone.
