With the new update for Google Maps on Android, Android Wear users will start seeing a dedicated application on their smartwatches. This change was first noticed after the Maps app was updated to version 9.9 today.
Users will be treated to a full blown Maps interface along with pinch to zoom controls and navigation. Previously, navigation on Android Wear only worked if you were navigating on your smartphone, but it seems like Google wants to give users the ability to do that independently.
You will find the Maps application on your Android Wear app drawer and it can also be shot up with a simple “Open Maps” command on your wearable. We’re yet to understand the full extent of its functionality, but it’s not yet ready to replicate the full Maps experience that you use on the smartphone.
In addition to serving as a navigator, Maps on Android Wear can also offer you suggestions on nearest attractions with a pin icon located on the right hand side of the screen. The new Maps update for Android is gradually rolling out, so you might not be able to see it immediately.
You can try heading over to the Play Store link below to see if it’s out yet.
