Samsung Gear VR for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will go on pre-order tomorrow

Samsung Gear VR

The Samsung Gear VR was first launched in September last year. However, this headset was only compatible with the Galaxy Note 4 phablet while other Samsung devices were exempt from the list.

But with the launch of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung mentioned that it will have a newly designed version of the virtual reality headset meant specifically for the two devices. Customers in the U.S. can pre-order this headset starting tomorrow, according to the company.

Price should stay the same at $199, although Samsung is yet to share word on this. The new version of the Gear VR is said to have a 96-degree field of vision and will also be 15% lighter compared to the Innovator Edition of the Gear VR that broke cover last year.

This new model is only compatible with the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, so if you have any other Samsung device, your only choice is to wait or simply purchase either of the new Samsung flagships.

You can get the new Gear VR from Best Buy online or Samsung.com starting May 8. Best Buy’s retail outlets will carry the headset starting May 15 with word coming out that the retailer will also have some demo units to try on.
