S4 No Sound

Problem: Hi I am having a few problems with my Samsung galaxy S4. I have no sound at all on my phone, it was working perfectly fine last night but when I’ve gone on today it won’t work. Is there any way you could help at all? Thanks a lot.

Solution: This might just be a temporary glitch of the phone software. A restart usually solves this type of issue. If the restart fails then clear your phone RAM by performing the steps listed below.

  • Turn off phone
  • Take out the battery
  • Press and hold the power button for at least a minute
  • Reinsert the battery
  • Turn on the phone

You should also check your phone settings and make sure that it isn’t on mute. Press the Volume up button and confirm that the volume icon on the display is increasing.

You should also make sure that your phone is not connected to any Bluetooth audio device as the sound may be transmitted to that device.

Finally, try inserting a pair of earphones on the audio jack of your phone and check if you can hear any sound at all.

S4 Slow Response

Problem: I emailed about a week ago.  My galaxy s4 had gotten really slow I can’t watch YouTube videos which I need for work.  It was perfectly fine 2 week’s ago now I can’t watch nothing not even on Facebook PLEASE HELP

Solution: The most common cause for a phone that is slowing down is that it has accumulated a lot of cached data. The best way to deal with this is to wipe the cache partition of your phone which deletes the temporary data stored.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.

You should also check on the number of apps running on your phone. If you have a lot of apps running then this will also contribute to the phone responding slowly. This is because these apps use up your phone RAM and the less RAM available the slower your phone will be.

S4 No Notifications For Social Apps

Problem: Hi I have a question on what I should do to make notifications pop up. I get notifications for emails and Text messages and phone calls, just not for social media apps like Instagram, Snapchat ect. I’ve went on the notification settings and turned them on, but still no notifications. I Restarted my phone thinking that will help and I took out the battery and put it back in. I don’t know what I should do.. Please help me. Thank you!

Solution: Make sure that you have a strong Internet connection since these apps rely on data to work. You should also make sure that the auto-sync feature of your phone is switched on so that you will receive the latest notifications.

Just in case this issue is caused by corrupt temporary data you should wipe the cache partition of your phone.

If the problem still persists then you should consider uninstalling your social apps then reinstalling them again from the Google Play Store. If the apps can’t be uninstalled then just uninstall the app updates.

S4 Display Issue After Phone Dropped

Problem: So earlier I dropped my phone and its not that the screen won’t turn on, but it turns on and the buttons and the touch screen work fine but it doesn’t display the entire screen (I added a picture of what it looks like.) And I’m not sure what to do… Should I take it to a technician and get it fixed there or is it a minor problem that can easily be fixed?. So if u could please contact me back that would be amazing!

Solution: From the picture that you sent it appears to be a hardware related problem already. It could be an issue with the display, the display connector coming loose, or even the display controller on the board. The best option right now is to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Multiple Issus After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi!! I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. I updated it to the latest Android Lollipop 5.0 several weeks ago. Since the update, the phone is giving me lots of problems. It hangs all the time. Can’t browse the internet as it force closes. The wallpaper automatically changes to the default blue and the menu screen yields a blank space with no apps. Also, the battery drains out really quickly and the phone heats up a lot. Please help!!

Solution: Whenever issues appear on your phone after a major software update it is always a good idea to perform a factory reset. The reason behind this is that it clears out the data from the previous software version that has not been completely removed and is causing a conflict with the new software version. Of course, before proceeding with this make sure to back up your phone data.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S4 “please send to a valid 10 digit number recipient” Error

Problem: Hello! I have had my Galaxy s4 for about a year now. And just the other day, my galaxy s4 starting messing up. Big time. I could not send text messages with getting a message that said : “please send to a valid 10/11 number recipient”. I blocked that number, and now whenever I try to send a text, it spins for a while and I’ll get a notification that it did not send and please re-send. Please help!

Solution: This is a problem experienced lately by those who are on the AT&T network. A quick search on the net shows that it is a network related issue and AT&T is aware of this.

The solution to this is to delete the messaging thread with the additional number. Turn off your phone for a couple of minutes. Turn on your phone then create a new message. The problem should disappear.

If you are still experiencing the same issue then you need to contact AT&T regarding this.

S4 Can’t View Facebook Videos After Lollipop Update

Problem: Recently I had an update on my Galaxy S4. Ever since this update, I’ve been unable to play videos posted on Facebook. My mother has the same phone, therefore had the same update, and she can no longer view videos either. If it matters, we’re with AT&T. We don’t use the app as that quit working on our phones months ago, even after uninstall/reinstall. We use the mobile Facebook site. I can’t find any answers on Google. And I reported the problem to Facebook today. If you know how to fix this, please help!

Solution: If you are using the mobile Facebook site then you are using your phone browser. This may be the stock browser or Chrome. Several other people have also been complaining about video playback issues right after the Lollipop update. One way to resolve this is to clear the cache and data of the browser application.

  • From the home screen, tap Apps.
  • Scroll to and tap Settings.
  • Tap the More tab.
  • Tap Application manager.
  • Swipe left to view the ALL tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the desired application.
  • Tap Clear Cache.
  • Tap Clear Data
  • You’ve now cleared the application cache and data.

If the problem persists then uninstall the browser app updates

  • From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap the More tab.
  • Tap Application manager.
  • If necessary, swipe right to the All screen.
  • Tap the desired application.
  • Tap Uninstall updates.
  • Tap OK.

S4 Not Enough Storage Space When Checking Emails After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi, Since doing the software update, when I check email it often says that I do not have enough device storage and should delete some files. I don’t have many apps (I wish I could get rid of the Samsung ones that they make you have), nor do I have a lot of photos. It’s now very sluggish. I wish I hadn’t updated it to Lollipop. Any idea how to sort the email problem out? Kind regards.

Solution: Your phone may be running out of storage space. Try checking on the amount of available space first by going to Settings – Storage. If it is quite low (does not reach 100MB) then you should first try to wipe the cache partition of your phone. You will be able to reclaim storage space that is used by temporary data.

If you still have a low storage space then try uninstalling some apps that you rarely use.

S4 Message Preview Not Showing on Lockscreen After Lollipop Update

Problem: Thedroidguy, Recently I updated my phone and now every time I receive a text message the preview of the message won’t show up on my lock screen even though to option for it is clicked on also when the preview of message comes in I can’t see who its from it only says new message.

Solution: First, check on your phone settings and make sure that it is set to display a preview of the message.

  • Go Settings > Sound and Notifications
  • At the Bottom of the Sounds and Notification Window, choose “Application notifications”. You have to select whatever notification you want to display on the lock screen. I choose “Messages” and “Email”.
  • Set whatever application you want to “Set as a priority”.
  • After this is done, you have a new option that will display under the “Sounds and Notification” screen called “While Locked”.
  • Press “While Locked” and choose Show all content ( Will show messages as they are on the lock screen)

If the problem persists then this might be caused by a glitch in the phone software. I suggest performing a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone before proceeding.

S4 TouchWiz Crashes After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hey guys, About a month ago, I received the update for my UK variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4, on the Tesco Mobile network. It now suffers from a bug that seems to cripple it and means I can’t actually use Touchwiz, as whenever I try to move an icon or a widget around the homepage, or onto the homepage from the app/widget drawer, touchwiz crashes. I’ve had to use the Google Now Launcher since but I’d like to get back to Touchwiz as quickly as possible. Do you know of any fixes? Thanks very much.

Solution: Several Galaxy phone owners have experienced this issue after updating their device. The most common cause of this is a glitch in the app preferences. If this is the case then you will need to reset the app preferences of your phone.

  • Access Settings
  • Choose Application Manager and select the All tab
  • Tap the Reset App Preferences option
  • If a confirmation message appears, just tap Reset Apps

If the issue persists then proceed with wiping the data of the TouchWiz app.

  • Go to Settings
  • Select Applications
  • Tap the Running or All tab and choose TouchWiz
  • Tap Clear Data

If the issue still remains then your last option is to do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

S4 No Sound During Calls

Problem: Hi the droid guy, I’ve been having a problem with my samsung galaxy S4 (SGH-M919) phone. It concerns calls; when I make a call to someone, he/she doesn’t hear what I’m saying and I also do not hear what he/she is saying. The same thing when someone calls me; I don’t hear what he/she is saying and vice versa. But there are times when the call goes through, were I can hear and the person on the line can hear too but that happens in one out of twenty calls. So I don’t think its a speaker or microphone problem if I can hear once in a while and then after can’t hear again. I have tried everything I read online,  I wiped the cache partition, I did factory reset but it still didn’t work. After the factory reset it worked for like three calls and later stopped. Please help. Thanks.

Solution: Is the Bluetooth feature of your phone switched on? If it is then try turning it off. Your phone may be connecting to a Bluetooth audio device somewhere which makes you unable to hear your calls. You should also try to insert a wired headset on the audio port of your phone and check if you can hear calls. If you can then your phone may have a stuck headphone sensor switch. If this is the case then try to repeatedly plug and remove the headphones until you can hear the sound.

If the problem persists then turn off your phone and take out the battery. Press and hold the power button for a minute then reinsert the battery. Turn on your phone then check if the issue still persists.

I did make call Viber to viber works as well. The only problem is call out in no sound and sound is on maximum setting. Please please help. Thank you.

  • Scroll to and tap Settings.
  • Tap the More tab.
  • Tap Application manager.
  • Swipe left to view the ALL tab.

S4 Contact Info Missing After Lollipop Update

Problem: I did the lollipop upgrade and now when I have texts my phone will not display the contact name, but instead only shows the phone number. If I click on the number, it will ask me if I’d like to add to existing or add new. So when I click add existing, it does take me to the contacts info I have stored, but then nothing happens. Please help! I don’t know who I’m talking to unless I read through previous messages!

Solution: There may have been a glitch that occurred during the upgrade process that is affecting your contacts list. Try to resync your contacts again from the accounts setting page up and see if this resolves the issue.

S4 Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hello I have samsung galaxy s4. I have followed your suggested procedures to reset all the way through the let technician check it. Att informed me there is nothing further they can do. The phone was charging when I went to bed. When I got up it would not come on. For a couple attempts if the battery was removed and replaced it would vibrate show s4 logo then shut off. Never even got to reset or recovery page. Now it won’t even do that. Is there any other possible fix such as a manual reset on the motherboard etc? Thank you.

Solution: The phone may already be bricked. You could try to reflash it or have it done professionally. Reflashing means that the phone software will have to be reinstalled again, erasing the previous version. This also means that your phone data that have not been backed up will be gone.

To reflash your phone you will need a software called Odin installed in your computer and a copy of your phone firmware. Instructions on how to do this can be found at most of the popular online Android forums.

S4 Notification LED Does Not Light After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi, Ever since I updated my Samsung Galaxy S4 to the most recent update, the LED light has stopped working, it will only work when my phone is on charge, it doesn’t flash blue/green/yellow for the appropriate messages even though these features are turned on. Another problem is, when getting these messages the screen has stopped lighting up. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I will be so greatful! Many thanks.

Solution: Check on the LED notification settings and see if it is activated to light up on notifications

  • Go to Setting
  • Go to My Device tab
  • Tap on LED Indicator
  • On the opened menu you can choose when the LED light is Up while the screen is off the options are: Charging, Low Battery, Notifications, Voice recording

If the settings are correct and the problem still persists then you should back up your phone data and perform a factory reset.

  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S4 Keypad Does Not Appear On Certain Apps

Problem: Hi, Good afternoon. I hope you could help me with my problem in my Samsung S4. I have trouble typing a message in Whatsapp and Viber. I can’t seem to pull up the keypad and I can’t press anything on the bottom of my phone when using these apps. When using Facebook messenger, Facebook, and games, I have difficulty pulling up the keypad and pressing anything on the bottom of the page. However, when it comes to gmail and the messaging feature on this phone, I have no problem with pressing anything on the bottom of my phone and typing. I already tried erasing and reinstalling whatsapp and clearing my cache and restarting my phone but nothing changed. How can I fix this? Is the problem with my apps or my phone? Appreciate any help you can extend. Thank you in advance. Best regards.

Solution: This is most likely a software related issue. If clearing the cache of your phone does not work then a factory reset is highly recommended. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

S4 Calls Fail After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hello, I wondered if you would be willing to help me rectify a problem on my Samsung S4 on O2 contract, which has occurred immediately after update (lollipop?) on 14th April 2015.  I am now having problems making any calls, either from my contacts, or when dialled from the keypad.  The phone looks like it is connecting, makes it’s little chinking sound to signal connection, but there is no ringtone and there appears to be no connection.  The other person’s phone rings but there is no sound when they answer. When I am called, my phone rings, and shows me who is calling but when I answer there is no sound.    The first time it did this the phone also told me that the Contacts had failed.  I was advised to go into the contacts App and clear the cache, which I have done, but this hasn’t fixed the problem.  Is there anything else I can do without having to totally reset to factory settings?  That sounds very complicated and I am a 54 year old woman without a clue!! Another problem the phone keeps have since the update is that it keeps telling me that it has failed to sign in to my email. There is also the persistent problem of the Voicemail number unknown bar which has been annoying me for months, since before the update!! I hope you can help.  Thank you so much.

Solution: You should try wiping the cache partition of your phone first and see if this resolves the issue. Your phone data will not be deleted in this process so you don’t have to worry about it.

If the problem still persists then you need to do a factory reset.

Back up your phone data first before proceeding. It’s best to use a software called Kies to do the backup. You can download this software from the Samsung website and install it in your computer. To do a backup just connect your phone to the computer with Kies running and follow the onscreen instructions.

To perform a factory reset follow the steps listed below.

S4 Camera Won’t Start After Phone Dropped

Problem: Yesterday I dropped my phone so that I wouldn’t drop my grandbaby….  Today, my camera goes to a black screen and says camera failed. I have shut off and restarted many times on my S4, I have cleared everything.  I have not done a factory reboot…  I prefer not too.  I don’t want to loose all my text messages (I have some important stuff in them) Now I am asking does it sound like a camera module or not? and how hard is it to change out. Thank you

Solution: This looks like a hardware related problem already. The drop may have damaged a component related to the camera or the camera itself inside your phone. While there are several tutorials available online on the steps you need to perform to replace certain parts inside your phone it is best to have it done at an authorized service center if you are not comfortable in doing it. One other advantage of having the job done at an authorized service center is that they can determine which component is actually damaged.

S4 Question On International Use

Problem: Hi…. I have a Galaxy S4, GSM, unlocked model #GT-I9500, Android ver. 4.4.2, baseband ver. I9500UBGNJ1, kernel ver. 3.4.5-3093886 [email protected] #1, Build number KOT49H.I9500UBUGNJ1, SE for Android Status Enforcing SEPF_GT-I9500_4.4.2_0040, that I purchased from PuretalkUSA.  I plan to go to Europe in the fall and need to know if this phone will support an international sim card. The sim card I currently have is for PuretalkUSA which uses AT&T towers. Thank you.

Solution: As long as your phone is unlocked you will be able to use it in any GSM network in any country. Just make sure that the SIM you will be using is a micro SIM.

S4 “Preparing SD Card” / “Removed SD Card” Issue

Problem: Yesterday I was playing the game Free Flow my galaxy s4. The screen went black and the game locked up a couple of times so I restarted my phone to get things working properly again. I also re-installed the game. About that time I began getting a constant cycling message at the top of my screen – “Preparing SD Card” followed by “Removed SD Card”. I basically know very little about this stuff and am completely baffled as to what caused this or how to fix it.

Solution: This may be caused by a glitch in the software or a faulty SD card. You should first eliminate any software related causes by wiping the cache partition of your phone.

If the problem persists then turn off your phone and take out the microSD card. Carefully inspect it if the contacts have any dirt. Clean it using an eraser if it has any dirt. Reinsert the microSD card making sure that it is inserted correctly.

If you still get the same error message then you need to reformat the microSD card. Backup all important data on the card and reformat it from your phone.

  • Go to Settings
  • Touch the More tab.
  • Touch Storage.
  • Touch Format SD card. (Please note: if this option is disabled touch Unmount SD card first.)
  • Touch Erase everything.
  • After the card is erased touch Mount SD card to restore use of the SD card.

If the issue persists replace your microSD card with a new one.

S4 Error Invalid Number Please Resend Using A Valid 10 Digit Mobile Number Or Valid Short Code

Problem: My Galaxy S4 has recently started a new problem. When I receive a text message, it appears with the number and not under the contact name it has been saved under. When I send a message to the number, I get a message back saying the number is an invalid number. However, if i text the contact number, they receive my message but their reply comes under the number and not the saved contact. I have tried restarting my phone, clearing the data and cache on my messaging app and turning my phone off completely. Nothing works! Help?

I am having issues with my text messages. I will send someone a text and when I receive an text back from them it comes in from a different number. For example: I will send a text message to the number 1-609-555-5555 and when I get a text back from the person it comes from 11-609-555-5555 and I can’t text the phone number back because it’s an invalid phone number. Then it looks like I have two text conversations open with the person. Please help!!

Hello. I woke up this morning and my galaxy s4 isn’t receiving text messages right. I’ll text my boyfriend from my contacts and receive a text back from a completely different thread but still from his contact. The message I receive from him begins with “11” and then his area code and phone number and when I try to reply I get an error message back. So every time I try and respond to him I have to open a whole new text thread. Do you have any idea what’s happening? Thank you.

My girlfriend has an S4. And when she tries to send me a message it says this “Error Invalid Number. Please Resend Using A Valid 10 Digit Mobile Number Or Valid Short Code”. She has reset her phone and erased my contact a few times, and all messages associated with my contact, and it is still not working. Thank you for any help.

Solution: We have been receiving a lot of issues of this kind usually coming from AT&T subscribers. AT&T already knows about this issue and is a problem related to their system.

To resolve this issue just to delete the messaging thread with the additional number. Turn off your phone for a couple of minutes. Turn on your phone then create a new message. The problem should disappear.

If you are still experiencing the same issue then you need to contact AT&T regarding this.
