Samsung is expected to launch a new smartwatch called the Gear A as numerous reports have told us. The company has now announced that it will be launching the SDK for the smartwatch well before the launch, thus giving developers enough time to work on new apps and content for the wearable.
In doing this, Samsung has also confirmed that this device will indeed sport a circular display. This is barely a surprise as we’ve already come across several reports confirming this, but it’s always good to get confirmation straight from the horse’s mouth.
It is pretty obvious that Samsung is going with its Tizen platform again and not Android Wear, which is a little disappointing for non-Samsung device owners.
“Samsung has actively adapted its approach to wearable device development as the leader of the rapidly developing category,” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “Through meaningful and progressive innovation, Samsung welcomes to developers and industry leaders to join this open collaboration effort to enrich and create unique user experiences for a new smart mobile life.”
