HTC has already entered the wearables segment with the RE Grip and the RE Vive headset. It now seems like the company will also set its foot into the automobile business which is an area that Google and Apple have recently ventured with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay respectively.
It is said that this new service from HTC will be known as HTC Cello and will contain a myriad of features to make it a worthy competitor to Google and Apple’s offerings. We’re guessing this in-car system will be OS agnostic and will be operable from most smartphones, thus ensuring that a large number of users are able to access the system.
The revelation was made by a post on Reddit, although we’ve heard nothing from HTC on the matter yet. The Cello will reportedly contain features like Night Vision, Sonar, Mini Human Machine Interface, DVD, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Lane Departure Warning System, Navigation and GPS.
If true, the Cello could cause real trouble for Apple and Google as some of these features are not present in their systems. However, it’s too early to tell if HTC will even go forward with these features, but it seems likely given the company’s willingness to tap into newer segments.
