According to an interview given by the CFO of HTC, Chang Chia-lin, the company is not looking to compete with big players like Xiaomi, Huawei, Lenovo etc because they only focus on sales volumes, apparently.
Instead, HTC reportedly wants to focus on being “cool“, yes these are the exact words used by the executive. He believes that the company’s high end products positively impact the midrange offerings, so they don’t have to follow trade practices of leading Chinese companies.
We’re not sure that will work this year though as the company hasn’t exactly struck a home run with its new offerings like the One M9, One M9+ as well as the One E9+. We hope the company will think about changing its strategy if and when it has a poor second quarter of 2015.
The Q1 2015 financial results from the company has showed profits of $11 million, which is quite impressive from the manufacturer. But if this strategy is anything to go by, we might not see a lot of profits in the second quarter of the year.
