The Tizen powered Gear 2 wearable didn’t manage to impress a lot of consumers when it was unveiled early last year by Samsung. However, there might finally be another use for the smartwatch as one developer has found a way to get Android Wear working on the smartwatch.
This comes from the hard work and tinkering of XDA user biktor_gl, who has apparently worked on this for months. As of now, only touch functions and Bluetooth appears to be working on the wearable, which is a commendable achievement considering that Android Wear is much harder to port compared to stock Android, which can be borrowed easily from the internet.
While this might not be for everyone, it does open up some exciting prospects for the future. The developer reiterates that it’s a work in progress, so don’t think about making the jump just yet. Would you be willing to give Android Wear a try on your Samsung Gear 2?
