Update to Google Search lets you send Hangouts messages using voice

Hangouts Logo

Voice commands on Google is already capable of performing quite a few tasks. And a new update to Google Search includes the ability to send voice messages to Hangouts contacts. Users were previously able to open voice search and send SMS and make voice calls, but not send messages on Hangouts. This applies even if you’re not using Hangouts as your default messaging app.

To make use of this feature, customers will have to say something as simple as “send hangouts message” followed by the contact’s name. It’s a very simple addition really and something which can make lives much easier for users.

The feature should be rolling out on a server level, so users might not need a separate Google Search update to access this. Bear in mind that it might be limited to a few regions at first, so don’t lose your patience if you can’t see the feature on your device yet.

Although the functionality is limited to just Hangouts for now, we can’t rule out the likelihood of other apps getting similar treatment.
