Sony recently launched the Xperia Z4 Tablet sporting a Quad HD display and a next gen mobile SoC. The tablet was also water resistant (IP68 certified), much like every Sony flagship we’ve seen over the past few years. A new report now mentions that the Sony Xperia Z4 which is expected to launch in a couple of months from now will not have a water resistant body.
The revelation was made by leaked images of the chassis of the smartphone, which showed no signs of the device supporting the feature. The handset is shown to be carrying a micro USB port on the bottom, but without any protective covering which is usually present on water resistant Xperia handsets. The device could also be substantially thinner if these images are anything to go by.
But why would Sony skip this feature on its flagship? It’s hard to speculate at this point, but one can only imagine that Sony sees the need to save some money on R&D in order to increase profit margins. Of course, it’s entirely possible that the handset does in fact support the feature and is merely missing from these images. So it’s still too early to take this new report seriously.
