If a new rumor is to be believed, Samsung is prepping a wearable device known as the “Orbis“. The smartwatch will reportedly pack an Exynos 7420 SoC underneath and feature the company’s proprietary Tizen OS which we’ve seen in a handful of smartwatches already.
We’re taking this with a pinch of salt for the time being considering that the Exynos 7420 chip is used on the company’s Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge flagship. But if Samsung does indeed go with the aforementioned SoC, it is possible that the company would use a dual or single core processor rather than utilize all eight cores of the Exynos 7420.
The use of this SoC will mean better battery efficiency, thanks to the 14nm manufacturing process utilized by the manufacturer. Other hardware details aren’t available at this point, but the rumor from Korea states that the smartphone will be announced at the CTIA event in September, which is shortly after the IFA event is concluded in Berlin.
Would you be looking forward to smartwatch of this caliber from Samsung?
