S4 Screen Turns On Randomly On Its Own

Problem: Hi, I bought Samsung galaxy s4 early last year and I have started to face the issue of screen turning on itself…when the phone is in my pocket at times the screen turns on itself n the phones gets hot. I use the s view case so there shouldn’t be issue of the screen being touched to switch on.. also the same happens at nite when I leave the phone on the bed side draw when I sleep..its on charger at times its just like that..no one touches it but still it’s on n gets hot too. I have done a factory restore of the phone, I have also changed the auto lock timing and have also changed the data setting to check if this can solve the issue Oh and I have changed the battery just in case. This days not happen every day but at times…

Solution: When your phone display turns on randomly does it stay on? Try starting your phone in Safe Mode then leave it overnight on the table.

  • With the device powered on, press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge) until the Phone options prompt appears then release.
  • Tap and hold Power off until the Restart in Safe Mode prompt appears then release.
  • Tap Turn On Safe Mode.
  • Note The restart process may take up to 45 seconds to complete.
  • Note Upon restart, Safe mode appears in the lower-left of the unlock/home screen.

If the issue does not occur then it may be caused by a third party app installed in your phone. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

You should also try checking if there are any software updates available for your phone. If there are, get them. This may resolve the issue.

S4 Does Not Boot

Problem: Hi. I have an S4 that started to randomly give me issues like texts not going thru then it progressed to no service for awhile. I recently updated to 4.4.2 then 2-3 days later the phone updated again to 4.4.4. It ran ok for about a day or so then I started to get random power on problems. The phone would turn on and display the samsung logo for a second then turn off. You would have to remove the battery and try again, and sometimes repeat this procedure until it worked. Well it’s now to the point where it just shows the logo and turns off. Sometimes a can get it to display the recovery screen but it only stays on for a second then powers off. I’ve read a lot of forums and tried things like checking to see if the power button is stuck, and booting in safe mode or recovery mode. Nothing worked. I disassembled the phone and checked all the connections to the board (I’m an electronics tech), tried booting with SD card/without the SD card, cleaned the SIM contacts. Measured the battery voltage which is good. I’m at a loss here and any help would be great! My gf has her sons cub scout pics on here and I’d really like to recover those pics. Please help.

Solution: Try connecting your phone to a computer running on the latest Kies software. Turn on your phone and check if it can be detected by Kies. If it can then you will be able to back up the phone data.

If it can’t be detected try to make it go to the recovery screen while connected to your computer. If the phone stays on you can either wipe the cache partition or go ahead and back up its data.

  • Switch off Galaxy S4.
  • Long press altogether VOLUME UP + HOME button + POWER button at once.
  • When S4 vibrates, let go POWER button but continue to long press the VOLUME UP + HOME buttons.
  • Release all when you see boot screen and little blue writing shows up at the top of the device.
  • Use VOLUME UP/DOWN key to select wipe cache partition and use POWER button to confirm.
  • After finishing the process you will also have the exact same menu.
  • Use POWER button to choose reboot device from the list.
  • The phone will then restart after the cache is wiped.

If your phone still does not boot then it’s going to be difficult to recover the photos stored in its internal storage. You may want to consider bringing your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked for any hardware issues.

S4 Issues After Android 5.01 Lollipop Update

Problem: Dear Sir, I am an owner of Samsung galaxy s4. The said mobile giving problem after update to version 5.0.1 lollipop. 1) Mobile gets overheated and battery drains fast. 2) Ring tone volume decreases itself automatically. Please help to fix the problem. Regards

Solution: Since you are experiencing multiple issue after the software update it is best to perform a factory reset on your phone. This eliminates any old system data that may still be remaining that’s causing the problems. Just make sure to back up your data before proceeding as this will also be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S4 Software Update Failed

Problem: I have a galaxy s4 through tmobile. It says I have a software update, but every time I try to update it, it gets to 27% and then says update failed. What do I do to get it to update my software?

Solution: This may be a connection related issue since the download does nor progress above 27%. You should try using a different Wi-Fi connection and see if the issue still persists. If it does then wipe the cache partition of your phone then ty downloading the update again.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.

S4 No Longer Gets 4G Connection

Problem: Hey android guy… So ive been with this mobile network company for a year now. They provide great 4G internet connection. Recently construction work has been taking place behind my building, and now that construction is bigger than my building. I no longer have 4G, H+ shows up instead 🙁 Is it because of that building? What can i do to make my internet connection faster? Thanks.

Solution: Try going to different areas around your neighborhood and see if you get a 4G signal. If you can’t get any signal then this may be a network related concern. Contact your network regarding this.

If you get a good 4G signal in other areas then the bigger may be blocking the 4G signal. If this is the case you should also contact your network if they have any options available for you to get back the 4G signal in your location.

S4 Screen Lock Security Not Working

Problem: Appreciated. My issue with my Galaxy S4 is the inability for Screen Lock security to work. Swipe screen and None work fine. But, if I try Pin or password, when I lock the screen by pressing the power button and press it again to wake it up, it is only the swipe screen or none. Under Lock Screen it will even say Pin for example and require the pin to change the settings. Rebooted the phone and the pin screen came on. But, as soon as I locked the phone and pressed power button, the swipe screen was back again. Can’t find anything on the Web on this.

Solution: Have you tried waiting for a couple of minutes before trying to unlock your phone? If your phone has the PIN feature activated and if you lock then unlock it quickly you will only be required to swipe to unlock it.

If however this issue persists even after a couple of minutes then this is definitely a security concern. First make sure that your phone is running on its stock firmware. If it is then do a factory reset. Just make sure to back up your data since this will be deleted in the process.

S4 Bluetooth Range Issues

Problem: Hi! I am having issues recently with my S4 where I have to hold my phone within a foot of my Bluetooth headset to get others to hear me / me to hear them. It drops words and is very choppy if I have my phone in my pocket. I am using a Plantronics Voyager Legend and have tried a new one without any change in results. This has changed over the last couple of months. When I first had the phone and added the bluetooth device it worked marvelously. I could walk around in a room without holding my phone.  My S4 is on Verizon. SCH-I545 with 4.4.2. Please let me know what other info would be helpful. Thanks!

Solution: For this issue you should start by deleting all Bluetooth pairings on your phone then adding the Plantronics Voyager Legend.

To delete Bluetooth pairings

  • Touch Applications.
  • Scroll to and touch Settings.
  • Touch Bluetooth.
  • Touch the Options icon next to the device you want to unpair.
  • Touch Unpair.
  • The pairing has been removed.

To pair the Bluetooth headset

  • Touch Apps
  • Scroll to and touch Settings
  • Turn on Bluetooth if it is off
  • Touch Bluetooth
  • Make sure the headset is in pairing mode
  • Touch the name of the Bluetooth headset
  • The Bluetooth headset is now paired and connected

If the issue persists then try using your Bluetooth headset when your phone is in Safe Mode

If the issue disappears then a third party app may be causing the problem. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step you can perform is a factory reset if all else fails. Just make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

S4 Calls Go Straight To Voice Mail

Problem: Gentlemen: I have a Samsung S4 rooted, running Android 5.0.1.  The only issue that I have is on incoming calls.  Everything else on the phone works great.  When someone call I do not receive the call, caller said that the call goes to voice mail but I do not get a notice of voice mail.  When I call voice mail the message will be there. Any help would be great. Thanks

Solution: The first thing you should check is if your phone is set to divert all calls to your voice mail.

  • Tap Phone.
  • Tap the Menu key.
  • Tap Call settings.
  • Tap Additional settings.
  • After a moment the current settings are displayed.
  • Tap Call forwarding.
  • Tap Voice call.

Under voice call disable the divert feature for “Always Forward”.

If the problem persists then try using a different SIM on your phone then call the number of that SIM. If the phone rings then the issue may be with your original SIM. Contact your carrier regarding this.

If however the phone does not ring then you should consider doing a factory reset. Just make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

S4 Can’t Access Google Play Store

Problem: I broke my galaxy s4 and just bought a new one, but everything works perfectly fine except the Google play store, I go to click on it and it just says to refresh it. I’ve tried restarting it and force stopping it and clearing the cache but it won’t let me on the Google play store, but when I first got it, it let me go on it then I went to log it and ever since then I couldn’t use the Google play store at all.

Solution: Try to use a different data connection when accessing the Google Play Store. If you are connected to Wi-Fi then connect to your mobile data and vice versa. This eliminates the possibility of a connection related problem.

You should also consider logging in to a different Google account on your phone and see if you can access the store with this account. If you can then the issue may be with your account. You should check what issues your account may have.

S4 Has Up After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi, Referring to your blog ( http://thedroidguy.com/2015/02/samsung-galaxy-s4-problems-glitches-errors-solutions-troubleshooting-guides-part-63-103172#u2cEkuilF0yttAXv.97 ) , I thought I will write to you and seek your opinion. Recently Samsung pushed Lollipop version on my S4 and started getting new problems. Battery discharges pretty fast. With Kitkat my battery used to go beyond 24 hrs and now it goes hardly 16 hrs. After some analysis found that its because its heating up a lot. “Power Clean” suggests says that temp. goes beyond 80 deg C. So closing to boiling a water. On a lighter note, I might start using it as a electric hot plate 🙂 🙂 to keep my coffee warm 🙂 Further analysis shows that applications like Facebook, S-Health and the most notorious “ANT HAL Service” keeps consuming the CPU. Sometimes I believe that these apps consume cpu when I am walking or moving around. To ensure that I have paused the Pedometer inside S-Health and also have uninstalled Google Fit – similar app to S-Health. I am not a frequent user of Facebook. Not sure how to stop that electric hot plate?

Solution: Several owners of this phone have also experienced their battery life greatly reduced and their phone heating up after the Lollipop update. The good thing is that a factory reset helps resolve this issue. Make sure to back up your phone data before doing this procedure.

S4 Randomly Resets/Freezes

Problem: Hi! My partner has a samsung s4, and we have recently been having some troubles with it, I was hoping you could point me in the right direction to fixing it! (We live in the country, and there is no one local who can help 🙁 ) The phone occasionally resets itself. I have updated the software and all of the apps, and it did fix it for about a day. However, now it has been resetting itself right before the alarm goes off, which is a bit of a hassle because he uses his alarm in the mornings to get up for work! Also, occasionally it freezes on the lock screen and he has to take the battery out to be able to continue using it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help!

Solution: Since the problem occurs randomly this may just be caused by corrupt temporary data in your phone. Try wiping the cache partition and see if the problem gets resolved.

If the problem persists you will have to do a factory reset. This will delete all data stored in your phone and restore it to its new original condition. You should make sure to back up all data such as photos, contact numbers, files, etc., before proceeding.

S4 Can’t Send Picture Messages/Emojis

Problem: Well I got my galaxy from a friend who had AT&T service but when I got it I switched it to Straight Talk, the only problem is I can’t send/receive pictures and whenever I try to send emojis it just says “change input mode to automatic” this is really frustrating and if there is anything that can be fixed I would greatly appreciate it 😀

Solution: Since this was previously an AT&T phone you will need to change the APN settings to that used by Straight Talk to be able to send and receive picture messages. Contact the Straight Talk technical support hotline regarding this matter. You can also check on the Straight Talk website for the settings and get it yourself.

As for the emoji issue you should change the input method of your phone to automatic. To do this open the messaging app then click on the three dots on the upper right side. Tap on settings then tap on Text Message (SMS) settings. From there tap on input mode and make sure the green dot is on automatic.
