The Pebble Time smartwatch went official last week. And today, the manufacturer has unveiled a new addition to the family in the form of Pebble Time Steel. This isn’t just a Pebble Time covered in a steel enclosure though. The battery on board is beefed up, which according to Pebble will last up to 10 days. The same color e-ink display from the Pebble Time is used here.
The pricing has been set at $249, with the market price set to be $299. The $50 discount can be availed only by early Kickstarter backers. For the price, you will also get a leather strap in addition to the stainless steel wrist band. So clearly, Pebble wants you to invest early in the Pebble Time Steel.
Those who have backed the Pebble Time on Kickstarter can upgrade to the Pebble Time Steel conveniently. Reverting back to the regular Pebble Time will not reserve your front line ticket however, so be mindful of that if you have a change of heart after upgrading to the Pebble Time Steel.
The makers have also announced Pebble Smartstraps, which are wrist bands that can be attached to your Pebble Time or Pebble Time Steel using magnetic pins. These come with features like GPS, NFC etc. However, Pebble is handing the responsibility to bring these accessories to the developers, so the company won’t offer any of these Smartstraps from the outset.
