Microsoft is reportedly bringing Windows 10 OS to the Xiaomi Mi 4. Shocking right? Well, Microsoft is believed to have taken consent from the Chinese manufacturer to produce a Windows 10 ROM for the Mi 4 smartphone, which will let them get valuable feedback on the operating system before it is available sometime in mid-2015.
Windows 10 will be available on the handset just like any other custom ROM, although it is said that the ROM will bypass all Android features and run a stock version of Windows 10 under the hood. This will be accompanied by the long list of Microsoft apps and services which we usually see on Windows devices.
It will be interesting to see if this ROM will be available on other smartphones as well, although we don’t see manufacturer like Samsung, LG etc agreeing to these terms that easily. HTC on the other hand might be another candidate to test out Windows 10 as it has launched a Windows Phone 8 version of the One M8 handset last year.
Here’s what Microsoft had to say in its statement – “As part of the Windows Insider Program, Microsoft will partner with Xiaomi to offer Windows 10 free downloads to a select group of Xiaomi Mi4 users. Xiaomi Mi4 users will get the ability to flash their phones with the new Windows 10 OS and provide feedback to Xiaomi and Microsoft on their experience. This partnership will allow Xiaomi and Microsoft to get direct user feedback and continue to improve the experience for China. Microsoft is thrilled to see Xiaomi embracing Windows 10 and offering this great value to their customers. We’re excited to see the feedback we receive from this audience.”
