Huawei unveiled its very first smartwatch a couple of days ago, which won widespread acclaim. A new rumor now claims that the company could further improve its partnership with Google by producing the next Nexus device. There’s no clarity on whether this will be a smartphone or a tablet like the Nexus 9, but it’s good news that Google is looking to reach out to Chinese players for the production of the next major Nexus device.
It is said that Huawei’s ability to manufacture chipsets on its own had a bearing on Google’s decision. Huawei uses its custom Kirin processors in its smartphones, as most of you might know. Of course, this deal isn’t set in stone at the moment, so we suggest you take it with a pinch of salt.
The information comes from iSuppli, which is a Chinese research firm. Considering that Huawei is relatively unknown in the tablet segment, it’s safe to assume that Google is looking for a smartphone from the company. Huawei has already expressed interest to go big in the American markets and launching a Nexus device might be the company’s ticket to get there.
