HTC created quite an uproar recently when it announced that the One M7 will not be receiving the Android 5.1 update. The Google Play Edition variant of the handset was still set to receive the update however, so it wasn’t a matter of hardware constraints but simply HTC’s unwillingness to send out the update.
It now seems like the company has begun to rethink this strategy as the company’s Mo Versi is now saying that the company understands the users’ concerns, despite most of Android 5.1 features allegedly being baked into the Android 5.0.2 ROM that is currently running on the One M7.
I heard you all on M7 5.1 for Carrier versions. Many of the fixes are already in our current SW, but understand your concerns. Stay tuned.

This isn’t exactly confirmation from the company that Android 5.1 update will be rolled out to the One M7, but reassuring news nonetheless. It is particularly annoying for users of the One M7 to know that the unlocked Google Play Edition variant of the One M7 is receiving the Android 5.1 update. However, in that case, the update comes directly from Google as it’s stock Android.
Will HTC make up its mind to build a new ROM with Sense UI for the One M7? Only time will tell.
