This is something that users of Google’s media streaming dongle will not fail to tell you. But it seems like VLC could finally bring support for Chromecast with the version 3.0 update. Needless to say, this will be a major update from 2.2 (which is yet to be released), so the change log will contain quite a few changes apart from support for Chromecast.
Here’s what part of the changelog looks like:
- Large rework of the Android video outputs: there is now Surface (2.1, 2.2) NativeWindow (2.3+, supports hw rotation, subpicture blending, opaque)
- Support rotation in Android NativeWindow output and hardware decoders
There will be some changes with regards to Android video output. Auto rotation is now said to be supported, which is a nifty feature to have. VLC hasn’t announced as to when this will be made available, but we look forward to hearing more about it over the coming days.
