According to an EA executive, graphics performance on tablets might soon surpass gaming consoles, keeping the current trend in mind. This makes sense given that gaming consoles are refreshed once in 4-5 years, while tablets are upgraded every year.
The likes of Apple, Samsung and Google are pushing newer hardware with every iteration of their tablet, so we might be able to see console level graphics on tablets very soon. Blake Jorgensen, who is the CFO of Electronic Arts, made this prediction. He claims that these devices will support games which are “much more immersive, much deeper, much more character-driven.”
We’ve already seen what NVIDIA is capable of doing with its high end tablet chipsets with the recently announced Tegra X1 boasting of a 256-core Maxwell GPU on board. While its predecessor the Tegra K1 is already running on devices like the NVIDIA Shield Tablet and the HTC Nexus 9.
Currently, developers like Gameloft and EA dominate the mobile scene as well, so this can only mean good news for game developers. What do you think?
