Deleting Duplicate Contacts in Galaxy Note 3
Problem: Hello, my name is Joey. I have a Note 3 and love it!! With that being said, there are a few issues.
- I have over 3,500 contacts saved, and I don’t know that many people. I’ve tried having tech support at AT&T fix the problem and they can’t. It seems that the same contact is saving 5-7 times. I can’t go in and delete every duplicate contact, but if that’s my only option, then that is what has to be done.
- I’m still trying to figure out the note piece with the pen. I can make and save notes, but can it turn your scribble into nice looking paragraphs or messages?
I probably will upgrade to the latest iteration Note 4. I’m not a big apple fan. They’re very proprietary and that’s problematic when utilizing other devices. I’m happy where I’m at. W/R, Joey.
Troubleshooting: Hi Joey. These duplicate contacts may have come from other accounts you synced your phone with but don’t worry, you can merge these contacts to combine all their information and appear to be 1 contact.
- From the Home screen, tap the icon of the Contacts app.
- From the Contacts tab, choose a contact that has duplicates.
- Tap the Menu key.
- Tap Link contact.
- Select contacts to link or merge.
It is the most effective way to get rid of duplicates but there’s no easier or quicker way to do this. So, you really have to go through each contact that has duplicates and merge them.
Joey, the only way to know if it can turn your scribbles into paragraphs is to scribble more words. Haven’t tried it myself since I always use my laptop to write but I think the phone can do what it wants you to do. By the way, upgrading to Note 4 isn’t a bad idea.
Galaxy Note 3 Can’t Recognized SIM Cards
Problem: Hi guys, the problem that I have…nobody heard about. Since few days my Galaxy Note 3 does not recognize the sim card. However the sim card is working in every other phone and every other sim card is working on my phone. I was asking for replacement. The company did replace twice the sim card and I do have the same problem. Mention that is a postpaid sim card. Nobody nows the answer. Maybe you can help me. Thanks in advance. — Ionel
Troubleshooting: All you needed was 1 SIM card replacement to know the issue was with the phone and not with the SIM. Another thing you could have tried to prove further if it were a phone issue is to try a different SIM card from other phones. If the phone can’t still recognize it, then there must be something wrong with it, although, I’m a bit confused what you meant by “recognize” here.
Does it mean that the phone can detect a SIM card is mounted but can’t tell which carrier it should connect? Or, does it mean the phone couldn’t detect a SIM card at all?
If your case was the same with the first question, then the problem is with provisioning and there’s nothing you can do to make your phone work the way it should. Your provider, however, could.
However, if the phone can’t totally detect a SIM card, then there must be some issues with the connectors or something else. Needless to say, you need to have the phone checked by a technician.
Galaxy Note 3 Won’t Turn On Sometimes
Problem: Hey guys I’ve always had samsung phones for about the past 4 years now. Had a galaxy s3. Now I have a note 3 and the phone is doing the same things my s3 would do before it died completely. I never had any issues with my note 3 until about a month ago I wake up to find my phone is frozen it won’t turn on or anything after being connected to the charger as I’m asleep I remove the battery and it starts back up. Today as I woke up the same thing it happens about once a week. My s3 did the same thing then one day my s3 would just constantly turn it self on and off with out ever booting all the way up . Thanks alot any feedback is welcomed.
Troubleshooting: I understand if you fear that your Note 3 will become like your S3 that it would refuse to turn on no matter what you do. You know, glitches happen all the time and it is not limited to just the firmware; there are hardware glitches, too. I’m not really sure what the issue with your phone is but I think it’s just a glitch considering it doesn’t follow a pattern and happens only once a week.
Honestly, we cannot prevent if your phone will not turn on anymore one of these days. But the most common cause of this problem is that the battery has already been depleted and may need replacement. I suggest for now, you observe your phone closely and don’t abuse it.
Load More Details Without Having To Clear Memory
Problem: When I check my email it automatically shows pictures but in the bottom left corner it usually says “load more details”. I don’t mind doing it but I am having to constantly clear my memory in order for those “details” to load, if I don’t clear phones memory the stupid circle just spins and spins, mocking me. Is there a way to have the “details” load automatically or dispose of memory without going into settings and have it wipe everything as soon as you close the browser? I appreciate your help.
Troubleshooting: For the ‘Load more details’ issue, you can work around that by changing the default download limit to 100K. Now, about your routine to clear the memory each time you load more details, I’m a bit confused. When you say memory, did you mean RAM? If so, then your phone is using all of it for other apps and services and there’s nothing left for the email app to use. You may lessen the load by uninstalling apps you don’t use anymore and minimize the use of widgets. If you want to give your phone a fresh start, I suggest you perform hard reset.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power
- When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home
- Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.
Galaxy Note 3 Can’t Download Update
Problem: Hopefully you can help me out. I recently picked up a used note 3 that had a factory reset done on it before I got it. I woke up yesterday morning after having it plugged in all night, it was only at 59%, and had a notification for an update. I downloaded the update ota, and hit install now. It went to the black screen with the little Droid dude, and said “recovery boot” in blue lettering in the top left while it showed it was installing. Then, it said error by the green guy, and install failed. When it booted back up, it said the installation had failed, and no changes were made. It charges to a full battery pretty quickly now, but I’ve tried a few more times, and can’t get it to do the update. It’s running on 4.4.2 right now. It’s just kind of irritating waking up every morning and having it fail first thing. Have you had any others with this, and have they figured it out? Thanks in advance for the help. Thanks, Bryan.
Troubleshooting: Hey Bryan. Yes, I encountered this problem many times already and you’re one of the many. There are a lot of factors that may cause this problem. First off, make sure your internet connection is stable, then verify your device doesn’t disconnect when it goes idle. You can find the setting through Settings > WiFi > Advanced.
Try booting the phone in recovery mode, wipe the cache partition and reboot. Then, try to download the update again and see if that makes a difference. If not, then I suggest you backup your data first, perform master reset and try to download the update before you install your apps. That usually works.
Text Messages Don’t Show in Galaxy Note 3
Problem: Please help, i have a samsung galaxy note 3. I tried removing the simcard last night, i didnt do anything to the phone or to the simcard. after a while i put the simcard back to the phone, i switch it on and tried sending a text message. I never knew if it was sent coz the message didnt show up in the sent messages, then i received a message, its showing 1 message received, but when i go to the inbox, there was no new message…but the number is still showing. my friends were telling me that they are sending text messages to my number , my phone is showing several messages received, but there were really no new messages that I’m seeing. Please help! thank you — cez
Troubleshooting: First of all, Cez, try browsing to the bottom of the Messages app just to verify if there are no new messages. Second, ask your friends if they sent you picture messages instead of just plain SMS. Third, try sending a text message to your own number to see if you can send and receive it as well. If your own text message won’t show up, then there’s something wrong with the messaging app you’re using. Try this…
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps
- Choose Settings, and tap General
- Scroll down to Device manager section and tap Application manager.
- Scroll to the right to display contents of ALL
- Scroll down to find Messages app and tap on it.
- Now tap the Clear Data
Try to send another text message to your own number. If the problem persists, there’s no other option but to perform factory reset. Backup all your data first, then follow this:
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps
- Choose Settings, and tap General
- Tap Backup and reset and choose Factory data reset.
- At the bottom of the screen, touch the button Reset device.
- Choose Erase everything. Once all data and settings on the Note 3 have been deleted, the phone will reset and then reboot.
Galaxy Note 3 Can’t Send MMS Messages
Problem: I have att service but I am using a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3 that is unlocked. I wasn’t having any issues with sending picture messages thru text but for the past 3 days I can’t send them. They just loads forever then say mm failed. Please help me! Att technical support was no help!
Troubleshooting: First of all, make sure mobile data is enabled in your phone. Then call AT&T and make sure there is no bar in your account preventing you from send MMS at the same time, ask for the correct APN settings for your phone. It must be provided to you immediately without any sort of fees. Once you got the APN, verify your phone is still using the APN provided by AT&T. There is a possibility that the APN was reset to defaults. If this happens, the phone will use Verizon’s and thus, you won’t be able to send/receive MMS. You may edit the existing APN or add a new one.
Galaxy Note 3 S Pen Not Working The Way It Should
Problem: Hello, I had a question regarding my s pen on my Samsung Note 3. When I was first using the s pen and would hover over a file with a couple of apps in it, it would turn the pointer to a solid blue dot and semi expand the file to show you what apps you have stored in that file and then when you tap the file with the pen it’ll open up and show you the apps stored. Or if I hover the s pen over a long text message it would pop up with a small box with the full text showing me what the person wrote.
Recently my s pen stopped turning into a solid blue dot and won’t expand my files when I hover it or show me that box when I would hover over a person who sent me a text message.
What is wrong and what can I do to get this fixed? I hope you understood what I’m trying to say. I’d appreciate it if you could help me out with this. Thanks, Waleed.
Suggestion: Just yesterday, I encountered a problem like this and it turned out the problem was with the S Pen itself. There is no troubleshooting procedure I can provide but I suggest you get the phone and its S Pen checked by a technician for proper diagnosis. But before doing so, make sure all settings are correct in your phone.
Galaxy Note 3 Messaging Doesn’t Show Notifications
Problem: I was wondering is there any way to update the basic SMS text feature that comes with the Galaxy Note 3? Also one of the apps that I do enjoy its called messaging but it does not give me notification often when someone text me after you initially get the program from the Google store. Or if it does give me a notification when I go in to send a message out it doesn’t go out I have to go back into the basic message SMS that comes with it to send it out and then go back and reopen it again was wondering if there is a workaround or something I need to change or reset? — Marcus
Troubleshooting: The stock or default Messages app can only be updated if Samsung or your provided rolled out a system update. Such is the case of all pre-installed apps. While I’m a bit confused of what you really want to accomplish here, I think what you’re trying to say is how to use a different messaging app without using the default Messages app. Just follow these steps and you’ll be fine:
- From the Home screen, tap the Messages icon to launch the app.
- Once inside Messages, tap Settings.
- There must be an option that says Default messaging app, tap on that.
- Now choose the app you want to be the default messaging app.
That’s pretty much it!
Galaxy Note 3 Neo Has Issues Reading SD Card
Problem: Hi. I bought a GALAXY NOTE 3 NEO cellphone and it happens that once in a while the phone is no longer reading my SD card. Sometimes it says you have to format them, sometimes just stop working. In all cases I changed the SD card with a new one, but it may not be possible that I always buy the defective one. Even, I have reset the cell phone to factory defaults, and the problem still appears. Could you give me an indication about what can i do? Thanks a lot! — Jorge
Troubleshooting: Hey, Jorge. I don’t know how frequent “once in a while” happens but just remember that glitches in both hardware and software happen all the time. There are also instances when the microSD card is corrupted and the phone can’t read from it. But if there’s no pattern, we just can’t provide an accurate troubleshooting procedure. I suggest, though, you back all your data saved in the microSD card and reformat it using your computer using FAT32 format.
Galaxy Note 3 Got “Stuck” After An Update
Problem: The Droid Guy. I have a Samsung Note 3, recently it tried to do an update without permission and it got “stuck” in the process. None of my apps work including my photo gallery, all I can do is send/receive texts and send/receive calls. The Samsung Tech referred to it as an App crash. It will not connect to the internet either. Upon contacting Samsung they told me to download Kies3 and back up my phone, however, Kies3 is not compatible with my computers operating system and security settings. At this point I am ready to do a factory reset on it but my pictures are still on the phone somewhere, I just can’t access them. I know they are there because they are showing up as space used just not physically there. Hope that is not confusing. When I went to AT&T to have them look at it the guy said that someone somehow “rooted” aka unlocked my phone… was I hacked?? He told me the phone was pretty much junk at this point and I should get a new one… sales technique?? Do you have any ideas before I do a factory reset and loose all of my daughters baby pics forever? Thanks, Melissa.
Troubleshooting: Okay, let’s take the words of the Samsung tech that it’s just some sort of “app crash.” In this case, booting the phone in safe mode can help. So, that’s the first thing I want you to do:
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power
- When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’
While in safe mode, try to see if you can access pictures you don’t want to lose or if the problem still persists. If so, then it’s more than just an app crash. The next thing I want you to do is wipe the cache partition to force the phone to create newer caches for all apps and services:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power
- When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
- With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.
If the problem can’t be solved by these two procedures, then there’s a slim chance you’ll recover your photos but I’m pretty sure full hard reset can fix this problem.
