Some Indonesian manufacturers have launched Google’s Android One series of smartphones with their branding, much like the Mountain View giant did in India and some other Asian countries. The Indonesian batch of smartphones however are slightly different from what we’ve seen so far.
Instead of running Android 4.4.4 KitKat like the rest of the Android One crowd, these variants were spotted with Android 5.1 Lollipop. Thus making the jump from Android 5.0, 5.0.1 and 5.0.2. This has taken everybody by surprise as Google’s intentions to launch Android 5.1 were virtually unknown.
This revelation also tells us that Google will soon send out the update to Nexus devices as well, although the timing might differ, which is something the past couple of months have taught us. We’re yet to get our hands on a changelog, so it’s hard to ascertain what’s different with this new version of Android, but we think there’s going to be some much needed improvements made to stock Android.
If you’re living in Indonesia right now and happen to have purchased an Android One smartphone, feel free to drop a line below.
