WhatsApp has now announced that it has over 700 million active monthly users for its popular IM client. This comes as the company added 300 million users in 2014 alone and a 100 million customers since August 2014.
This means that WhatsApp now has more active users than Facebook Messenger, which is Facebook’s dedicated IM client. It is said that the Indian market has been vital in the app’s increased user base, although the Facebook owned company will also want to add users in crucial markets like the U.S. and China.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly sees the app making more inroads once it reaches the 1 billion users mark. WhatsApp hasn’t been having a great time in terms of revenues even though it has added millions of users over the past one year. It is said that the app only generated $15 million in revenues last year, which is quite disappointing for Facebook which acquired the app for a hefty $22 billion last year.
