During last year’s CES event, Polaroid unveiled the unique Socialmatic camera which could print out photos within a minute and offer social networking features, all in one device. But at this year’s event, the company has announced something more basic which could appeal to a broader audience. Called the Zip Instant printer, this device essentially allows users to get prints of images on their smartphones or tablets.
This can be achieved with the help of a dedicated app which will be available for both Android and iOS devices. Since the device is connected through an app, it most likely uses Bluetooth to connect to the device, which is a welcome feature. It is said that this printer uses an ink-free printing technology which has been developed by ZINK Imaging, so users will not need to replace cartridges periodically.
The device will arrive in the market sometime after March with a price tag of $129.99. The Polaroid Socialmatic camera on the other hand will arrive on outlets like Amazon, Photojojo and Polaroid’s own website by this month with a price tag of $299.99.
