According to a reliable source of HTC leaks on Twitter, the upcoming One M9 smartphone will be available in an exclusive developer edition variant, but only for the American markets. We’re not sure how different this will be from the previous iterations since developer edition HTC One flagships have only been available in the U.S.
The upside of getting a developer edition HTC smartphone is that it comes with an unlocked bootloader, thus allowing customers to flash custom ROMs at will. It is also offered SIM free, so customers are at liberty to pick the carrier of their choice. Android updates from HTC are usually rolled out to developer edition variants first which is then followed by the carrier models, so there will be significant interest for these models.
We expect to hear more about this during HTC’s keynote address on the 1st of March. The company is also expected to launch a couple of other devices during the event, so the Taiwanese manufacturer is going to be very busy this March.
