After announcing a smartwatch, Alcatel has now taken the wraps off a new smartphone series known as the PIXI 3. The highlight of these devices is that there’s something for practically everyone. The name PIXI 3 stands for one Android phone, one handset running Windows Phone and the other running Firefox OS, thus offering multiple options for the customers.
Alcatel mentions that it will leave the decision to the carriers to offer whichever variant they please. This could mean increased demand for the Android variant with the other two probably not getting much love from the carriers. The smartphones will be sold in 4, 4.5 or 5 inch variants with 4G LTE connectivity. There will also be a 3.5 inch model packing 3G HSPA connectivity.
We’re yet to ascertain hardware details of these smartphones, but since they’re not expected to cost much, we should be looking at midrange set of hardware. We sincerely hope Alcatel offers customers the choice to pick from the OS of their choice rather than leaving the decision to the carriers.
The company is expected to offer more details on the series during the CES next week. We certainly like the idea of a platform agnostic smartphone lineup, what do you think?
