According to a new report, Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi5 smartphone will be the first flagship handset to feature a sapphire glass display. This particular technology was expected to be used on the Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, but the company backed out at the last minute due to issues with manufacturing and supply.
Although Kyocera is technically the first manufacturer to launch a sapphire glass smartphone, it was merely a midrange device which got lost amidst the sea of other midrange offerings. But a flagship offering from a company as influential as Xiaomi could certainly have a major impact on the global market.
The display on this smartphone is said to be 5.7 inches in size with the company reportedly speaking to Lens Technology and Biel Crystal Manufactory about producing the required display panels. There aren’t much details available on what to expect from this new flagship, but it seems like the Chinese manufacturer has quite the surprise for us in 2015.
