Samsung reportedly sold 73 million handsets in Q3 2014

Samsung CSC

According to a new report from Gartner, Samsung managed to sell nearly 73 million smartphones in the third quarter of 2014. Although this number appears to be quite decent, it’s substantially lower than the 80 million units it sold last year during Q3. On the flipside, one of its primary rivals, Apple, saw an increase of 8 million units in sales during the same period.

Samsung’s decline in the mobile industry isn’t exactly news to us. However, this new report will certainly cause concern for the company and the stake holders as they head into 2015 with bright hopes and expectations. Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi reportedly sold 15 million units in the quarter, which is an increase from the 3.5 million units it sold in the same period last year.

Samsung will have its work cut out in 2015 if it wants to succeed and come out on top in the mobile industry. Will the Galaxy S6 manage to change the company’s fortunes? Only time can tell.
