S4 Flickering Display Issue

Problem: Hey! I am glad to read your blog and find someone helping us out. I have Samsung Galaxy GT-19500 model and using 4.3 android version. I recently had a factory reset of my cell as my phone was showing up inconsistent UIDs and clear cache and system partitions option. So as a last remedy I reset my fone using manual way of holding power button, volume and home button. After a couple of days of reset my screen started flickering in low light and also flickers with greenish purple light at the bottom of page when its about to shut down the light. I am worried about it. why is it so and what should I do to rectify it. I shall be waiting for your kind reply. Regards.

Solution: There are two things to consider that may be causing this issue. First, the screen flickering issue may be caused by certain third party apps that are installed in your phone. Second, it may be a hardware problem.

To verify if this is an app related problem you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode all third party apps you downloaded from the Google Play Store are disabled leaving the default apps running. This makes it easier to troubleshoot the issue.

  • With the device powered on, press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge) until the Phone options prompt appears then release.

  • Tap and hold Power off until the Restart in Safe Mode prompt appears then release.

  • Tap Turn On Safe Mode.

  • The restart process may take up to 45 seconds to complete.

  • Upon restart, Safe mode appears in the lower-left of the unlock/home screen.

Check your display in this mode and see if it still flickers. If not then this issue is most likely caused by an app you installed. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

In the event that the screen still flickers even in Safe Mode then this might already be a hardware issue. In this case you should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking. Before bringing in your device you can do a factory reset first to see if it helps. Make sure to backup your data first before proceeding.

  • Turn off the device.

  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key,Power key.

  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’

  • Press Power button to select.

  • Press the Volume down key until ‘delete all user data’ is highlighted.

  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.

  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.

  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S4 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: I’ve noticed that my battery is draining quite fast by Android OS. I installed battery doctor which has increased its idol time effectively but when I use it, battery depletes fast. I even restored it to factory settings for two times earlier and now again this problem has showed up. Couldn’t even find some satisfactory answers on the Internet. Please help.

Solution: If your phone battery drains fast despite performing a factory reset then you should consider the following battery saving tips listed below.

  • Turn on your phone display automatic brightness feature.

  • Check which apps or services are using the most battery life by going to Settings- Battery. If you are not using one of the top battery draining apps then you should consider uninstalling it.

  • Change you email sync frequency to a more longer time period.

  • Turn off services that you are not using ( Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, etc.)

  • Check your background apps. Long press on the Home button then swipe the apps that you are not using.

Another thing that you should consider is getting a new battery. Your current battery may not be performing at its peak level which is causing this problem.

S4 Contact Details Deleted

Problem: Hi, I want to recover all my contact details. By mistake I deleted all my contact details from my phone and it is also not saved on phone as backup in mail. Is there any way I can retrieve the contact details. Please let me know.

Solution: If you only deleted the contacts in your phone then you can still access them from your Google account. This is provided that you have synced your Contacts with your account prior to the deletion.

The best way in going about this is to delete your Google account from your phone then adding it again. This way, when you add your account your contacts will be synced from your Google account to your phone.

S4 Cellular Connection Drops When LTE Enabled

Problem: Hi, I tried to look for the answer in your posts that relate to my phone LTE connection. But couldn’t find and thus I am sending this email to request your kind advice. I am using Samsung galaxy S4 GT-I9505. When ever I select mobile data connection mode to LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), sooner or later my phone cellular connection is lost. I still can use phone for other purpose, apps, Wi-Fi etc, but not cellular services such as phone calls, sms etc. So now I have to keep the selection without LTE (WCDMA/GSM) mode. Then I don’t get any cellular problems. Just having very slow mobile data connection. Research on the Internet shows, there are the people with same problem. Appreciate if you can give any any advice for that. Regards.

Solution: There are several factors to consider that may be causing his problem. There is the network itself, your SIM card, the phone software, and the phone hardware. Before troubleshooting this issue make sure that your phone is running on the latest software update. The latest update will have several improvements and bug fixes that may help resolve this issue.

The first thing that you should do is to contact your network provider and inquire about the status of the LTE connectivity in your particular area. Sometimes a network issue may cause this type of problem.

After confirming that there is no problem with the network the next step that you should do is to check if this is a SIM card issue by inserting another SIM in your device. If the issue disappears when the new SIM is inserted then the problem is with your old SIM.

Once you have isolated the network and the SIM card your next step is to determine if this problem is caused by your phone software. To do this you should perform a factory reset. Make sure to backup all your phone data as this will be deleted in the process.

If the problem still persists despite the factory reset then this may either be a faulty firmware or hardware. Did this issue occur when your phone was new? If it didn’t then it’s probably caused by a bad firmware. You should wait for an updated firmware to be released by Samsung or if you are the adventurous type then you can flash a custom ROM on your phone.

If this issue occurred when your phone was newly bought then it may be a hardware problem. In this case you should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

S4 Unable To Make Or Receive Calls

Problem: I bought a Samsung Galaxy s4 for my son on eBay from a seller that told me the phone was fully functional. As it turns out the phone turns on and the apps work but the 4g doesn’t work and my son is unable to make or receive calls. Works well as a paper weight but does not function as a phone. Can you tell me what the problem might be and what the cost might be to fix the problem? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Solution: One of the disadvantages of buying a used mobile device is that you really are not sure of its history. Has it been dropped? Has it undergone repairs?, etc. Since the phone you bought over at eBay is not working properly then the best thing you can do right now is a factory reset. Make usre to backup any data that you may have stored on the phone.

If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue then try using another SIM card on the device.

If the issue still persists despite using another SIM card then you should bring the phone to an authorized service center for checking and repair.

S4 Battery Drains Even If Plugged

Problem: Hi, I have been having problems with my phone turning itself off and or restarting itself. Then the phone would not properly charge. I can leave it charging all night and it will only be on 30%. So yesterday I bought a brand new battery for it and it is still doing the same thing. The phone will actually be on the charger and if I’m using it, it will go down on charge even while plugged in. Please help me.

Solution: Have you tried using another wall charger? The charger you are using may already be defective. If the issue still persists despite using a new charger then it is best to bring your phone to an authorized service center. Your phone may have a faulty component which may be causing this problem.

S4 Dropped On Ground Only Boots In Safe Mode

Problem: Hey, I dropped my Samsung Galaxy s4 and it shut off only to boot up to safe mode every time I hit reboot now it says error and goes back to safe mode and I also cleared the cache partition idk what’s wrong with it. Help please!

Solution: The drop may have caused some internal component in your phone to malfunction which causes it to boot to Safe mode every time. You will have to bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

S4 Issues After KitKat Update

Problem: Hi guys just been reading your pages but cant seems to find an answer to my problem. I have a Samsung galaxy s4. it use to work absolutely fine until the kitkat updates. now i cant upload pictures to any site. it rather say not enough memory or cant upload or just crash. all this happened as soon as i ve done the update. I’ve checked memories and it s all clear so not sure whats happening. Since the updates the phone also is less responsive, froze sometimes and some apps like Internet or mail just not working properly anymore. for example when i m on Internet i cant close a page anymore. it only let me open a new one. if i want to close i have to go to the app force stop and clear data!!! ridiculous. It s pretty frustrating. Hope you ll be able to help. I’m with t mobile uk.

Solution: Issues that occur right after a major software update are common among mobile devices. The good thing is that this can be resolved easily most of the time. What you need to do is to perform a factory reset. The reason why your phone is having these issues is because of the old data from the previous software version that is still present in your phone. This data should normally be deleted when the new software has been installed but sometimes glitches occur which makes the data remain in your phone. The only best way to delete the old data is by doing a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your personal data before proceeding as this will also be deleted in the process.

S4 Wi-Fi Is Unstable

Problem: I have just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 and it keeps telling me that my Wi-Fi connection is unstable. My previous phone is a S3 which I never had that problem and I can still connect to the Wi-Fi from that device with no problems. What do I need to do, exchange my phone or what. Please help!

Solution: Before troubleshooting this issu make sure you phone is runninh on the latest software update.

In most cases this issue is caused by an error in your phone system cache partition. You should try wiping your cache partition first. Take note that this procedure does not delete your data but instead just clears out the temporary cache.

  • Turn off the device.

  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.

  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’

  • Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.

If the problem persists then your next step is to delete the Wi-Fi network from your phone then add it again.

  • From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.

  • Tap Settings.

  • Scroll to and tap Wi-Fi.

  • Long press the network you’re connecting to.

  • Tap Forget Network.

  • Tap the Menu key again.

  • Choose Advanced.

  • Make sure Passpoint is set to Off so that the phone won’t automatically connect to Wi-Fi access points that require additional authentication through a web browser.

  • Turn Auto Network switch to Off by unchecking the box.

Scan for your Wi-Fi network again then add it. You may have to enter a password.

You should also consider checking the route itself. Reboot your router and try experimenting with changing the router channels to see which channel works best with your phone.
