S3 Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hey there, My Samsung gs3 phone can’t turn on. I found out my battery charging cord doesn’t charge well and can’t hold a charge and my battery has started to swollen, but I was still able to use. Suddenly, my phone was dead and couldn’t be charged for weeks. I don’t know what is the problem with it. It could be the charging cord cos I trying using tweezers to pick dust out of the cord. I might have broke something inside. Should I get a new battery or fix the cord or both?

Solution: I’m seeing two problems here that should be addressed immediately.

First is your charging cord. You should immediately change it since there is already uncertainty if the wires inside it are still shielded. If the plastic or rubber protection of the wire gets stripped off then it may cause a short circuit that may damage your phone.

The second problem is the battery. A swollen battery is a sign that something is already wrong with it. There’s a chance that it may explode causing you injury.

What I suggest is you immediately replace your charging cord and battery.

Once you replace your battery then there is a big possibility that your phone will turn on.

S3 Multiple Issues

Problem: Hi, I am having some problems with my phone, and I read a post of yours online offering help.

I have had my Samsung Galaxy S3 for just over a year, and it has always been a very good phone in terms of battery life, speed etc. In the past 2 months, I’ve had various problems with it and I’m not sure whether it is a software/hardware issue.

1) Battery drains REAL quickly – I had to fully charge my phone twice in one day after moderate use

2) More of a hardware issue – but sometimes the phone just will not charge, no matter what position I place the charger in

3) When I take a picture with flash, coloured striped lines come on the screen and in the picture

4) When the battery gets low, around 10%, the screen just messes up – it freezes, goes black and the coloured striped lines come on

5) The phone is now incredibly slow, even when opening apps like Google or Facebook – the phone takes a good 20 seconds to load

I have deleted most apps and most miscellaneous files in an attempt to increase storage but this hasn’t helped. I don’t know whether to reboot my phone or not as I don’t want to lose all my contacts etc.

I would really appreciate some help, on what to do to fix my phone as I really wouldn’t like to have to buy another one if it can be fixed.

Many, many thanks

Solution: I’m glad you found one of our posts online so we can assist you with your concerns. It appears that your phone right now has multiple issues. Before troubleshooting your phone you should first check if there are any new software updates available. These updates come with improvements and fixes that may help resolve the issue.

There’s a big possibility that this could just be caused by the software messing up. In which case, you will have to do a factory reset. However, in doing so all data in your phone will be erased so you should make a backup first. Follow the procedure provided in the link below to do the backup.

To backup your media files and photos

To backup your contacts

Once everything is backed up perform a factory reset.

  • Turn off the device.

  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.

  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’

  • Press Power button to select.

  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’

  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.

  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

Once your phone has fully booted check and see how it performs. In most cases the issues should be gone by now.

Regarding the issue of your phone not charging this could be a problem with the charger itself. Try to use a different charger and make sure that the charging port of your phone and the charger are clear of any dirt or debris.

If the battery drain issue still occurs even after the factory reset then try to replace it with a new one. Your battery may not be providing power at its peak level anymore.

S3 “unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped” Error

Problem: Please I have been getting this message “unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped” i cant access my phone, please i would be glad if you can help me solve this issue.

Solution: This error message deals with a glitch regarding the Contacts data in your phone. Before troubleshooting this issue make sure that you have a backup of your Contacts list.

To resolve this issue you will have to clear the cache and data of your Contacts app.

  • From the Home screen, press the Menu key.

  • Touch Settings.

  • Touch Applications.

  • Touch Manage Applications.

  • Touch All.

  • Touch Clear data and Clear cache for the Contacts app and the Contacts Storage app.

The issue should be gone by now. You can start restoring your Contact list.

S3 Dropped On Floor

Problem: Hi, I have a samsung galaxy s3, which ive been using for the past year or so….. i accidently droped it last week from about a height of 4 feet onto a tiled floor and now the phones battery discharges very rapidly. it goes from 100-0% in about 7 hours, even in when i dont use it…………….. ive not rooted my phone, and the company tech support says it has something to do with the motherboard, so i need ur advice on this, what should i do……… its over its warranty period by the way.

Solution: If the issue occurred right after you dropped your phone then this may have affected your phone battery life. Why don’t you try replacing your battery first with a new one. If the battery life of your phone improves then you just found out the cause. If the problem still persists then the problem may be something else with your phone hardware.

The S3 can usually survive drops from a certain height however there are cases when something inside of it gets affected. If the technician says that the motherboard is the problem then this might really be the case. Have your phone thoroughly checked as to which part of the motherboard got affected. You might be able to replace just the damaged component instead of the whole motherboard.

S3 Unresponsive Power Button

Problem: I‘m having issues with my Galaxy S3 Power Button. First let me give you some back story: Yesterday my phone froze and was unresponsive to the touch or any other inputs, so I took my battery out to let my phone chill out. Upon putting the battery back in, my phone would not boot up for the rest of the day, it just kept vibrating like it was trying to turn on, but no luck.

After many repetitions of putting the battery in and out hoping for the phone to turn on, it finally booted! (Mind you, none of this was done using the power button. I would put the battery in and it would start vibrating and then it eventually boots.)

Now that my phone is back to life, I found out that no matter what I do the power button doesn’t respond to anything. The only way I can lock my screen is by waiting for the screen to timeout and using the home button to unlock.

All that being said, what do you recommend I do to restore the my Phone Button functionality? The only way I can turn on/off my phone is by taking the battery out and I’m worried that if my battery dies I won’t be able to turn it on at all! Please help, thanks!

Solution: I would not recommend doing a factory reset as you will need a fully functional power button to enter the recovery mode of your phone. You mentioned that if you inserted your battery the phone turns on on is own. This may mean that the power button is stuck. The best option right now is to bring your phone to an authorized service center nd have your power button checked.

S3 Not Recognized By Windows 7 PC

Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy s3, my phone is locked to Rogers in Canada. model number is SGH-I747M. Android Version is 4.4.2.baseband is I747MVLUFNH2. I got a problem to connect this to my PC through USB.

I have the Samsung Kies installed on my Win7 32bits PC. when I open the Kies and connect this Phone to PC, the PC will recognize this as a ” finger sensor” device and failed to install a driver.

do you have any idea how should I do to let the PC recognize this phone as a Phone instead of some wired stuff.

Thanks a lot.

Solution: There are several factors to consider that could be causing this issue. It could be an problem with the phone , the USB cord used, or the computer. In any case, the first thing that you should do is to reboot your devices (phone and computer). Once both devices have started try connecting your phone to the computer on a different USB port using a different USB cable. Do not use a USB hub when connecting your phone instead connect your phone straight to the USB port of your computer.

If the problem still persists then uninstall Kies and reinstall the latest version of Kies which you can download from the Samsung website.

To Uninstall

  • Disconnect the USB cable from the device before continuing.

  • Go to www.samsung.com/kies.

  • Click the DOWNLOAD FOR WINDOWS button, and then click the DOWNLOAD KIES 3 button.

  • Click Run.

  • Click Remove when prompted with Kies 3 Reinstall or Remove.

  • Click the checkbox next to Delete temporary save file, and then click Yes.

  • The application will then be removed from the computer.

To reinstall

  • Locate the downloaded Kies setup file named KiesSetup.exe.

  • Double-click the filename to begin the installation.

  • When prompted, click the checkbox next to I accept the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next.

  • Click Finish when the installation is complete.

  • Connect the USB cable to the device. Your computer will then locate the newly installed drivers. This process may take a few minutes.

  • Once the drivers have been installed, open Kies 3.

You should also verify if the security software of your computer is causing this issue to happen. Try to disable it temporarily and connect your phone again.

S3 Camera Won’t Focus

Problem: Hi, I have had my Samsung Galaxy S3 for over a year now with no problems. Two days ago the camera was working fine. Yesterday I tried to take a photo with it and found that it was blurry. When looking through the screen, the picture I wanted to take was blurred and when I took the picture that too was blurred.

Tapping on the screen to focus the camera doesn’t work. I have checked all the settings and even re-set everything to default but it is still blurred. The auto focus is on in the settings, not macro.

I have cleared the data and cache in the camera and gallery apps but it still won’t work. I have also wiped the cache partition without making any difference to the camera. The strange thing is that if I switch the camera to the self portrait one, it’s perfectly clear. It’s only the camera on the back of the phone that’s blurred.

I have even downloaded 3rd party camera apps and tried them but the camera is still blurred. Please can you help, I’ve searched the Internet and done everything suggested there but nothing works and I’m lost without my phone camera.

Thanks.

Solution: Have you tried recording a video using the rear camera and check if the videos are also blurry? I it is also blurred then the rear camera lens may have smudges. You should try wiping the lens with a micro fiber cloth. This type of cloth is recommended as it does not scratch the lens. You can also use a lens paper (the same one used in cameras) to clean your lens if you have one lying around.

If the recorded video does not appear blurry then the problem may be software related. Try to check if there are any new software updates available for your phone and apply them accordingly. These updates come with improvements and bug fixes that may help resolve the issue.

Next, you should consider doing a factory reset. This brings back your phone to its original condition when it was new. Make sure to backup your data before proceeding.

S3 Turns Off When Charging

Problem: I was reading through your troubleshooting posts, but did not see anything about my specific problem. So, I am hoping you guys can help. I have tried to google my problem, but the only thing showing up are forums where other people have the same problem, no solutions.

I have had my S3 for over a year. For the past two days, my phone is shutting off after charging overnight. I have it charging and have my alarm set to go off in the morning. But the alarm does not go off and when I check why, I notice the phone is completely turned off. When I turn it back on, it is completely charged and I have no problems throughout the day. It is only when charging overnight that it shuts off. I have not had this problem before and I have not downloaded anything new.

Do you know what may be causing this? Or anything I can do to fix it? Thanks.

Solution: If the issue only occurs when you try to charge you phone then this may be caused by the charger you are using or the battery installed in your phone.

Try using a different charger when charging your phone overnight and see if it is still off in the morning. If the issue still persists then try using a new battery on your phone.

Since this issue occurs only at night there is also a possibility that an app you installed may be the cause. Before charging your phone at night boot it to Safe Mode. Check out the link below for the procedure.

How to boot your S3 in Safe Mode

In the morning when you wake up if your phone is still turned on then an app may be causing the issue. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

S3 Text Messages Disappear

Problem: All of the sudden my S3 starting doing weird things with my messaging. I can see someone is texting me from the preview notification of the texts. But if I actually go into the messaging app there is not message displayed. And even with some of the texts when I try to send a text out.. I can see me typing it … it is all there.. but as soon as I hit send it is like poof gone. It is not there. Can you please help!! It is SO frustrating. Thanks.

Solution: I’m assuming that you are using the stock messaging app. To resolve this issue try rebooting your phone first and clearing out its RAM.

  • Turn off the phone

  • Take out the battery

  • Press and hold the power button for at least 3 minutes

  • Reinsert the battery

  • Turn on the phone.

If the issue still persist you should clear the cache and data of your messaging app. Make sure to backup any of your important messages first.

  • From the home screen, tap Apps.

  • Scroll to and tap Settings.

  • Tap the More tab.

  • Tap Application manager.

  • Tap the Messaging application.

  • Tap Clear cache.

  • Tap Clear data.

  • The application cache and data is now cleared.

S3 Can’t Make/Receive Calls

Problem: I have a Samsung S3 and since I got it about 13 months ago, I have not been able to talk, which means make a call or receive calls in my house, garage or even in front of my house. The calls drop. I have contacted Verizon to no avail. They tried to correct the problem by sending me a refurbished Samsung 3 phone. They said they did a tower assessment and there were no interferences. They also told me the Samsung 3 phone has bad antennas. I am at my wits end. Is it the phone or Verizon? Thanks for your help.

Solution: The best way to check if the problem is a network coverage issue is to use your phone in a different area. Try going to the mall or the park ( anywhere away from your home). If you can normally make and receive phone calls in other areas then there is a strong possibility that the network coverage in your area is spotty.

It is unlikely that the Galaxy S3 has bad antennas right out of manufacturing as other owners of this device have been using it without any call related issues even if the signal is only one bar.

S3 Apps Disappear After Update

Problem: The apps disappeared after a random update. No facebook or Instagram…neither apps can be accessed. Please help.

Solution: There are instances when you update your phone your apps get disabled making it seem to disappear from your phone. All you need to do is to re-enable these apps.

  • Open Settings.

  • Go to More.

  • Proceed to Application Manager.

  • Swipe the window until you reach the Turned Off section. This will reveal all your disabled apps.

  • Select Downloads.

  • Hit the Turned On button to activate the apps.

  • Reboot your Galaxy S3.

S3 Battery Drain Issues

Problem: I am having issues with the phone shutting itself off when battery life reaches 70% sometimes 80%. soon as the phone shuts off and i plug in the charger it shows the battery completely dead briefly and shortly after jumps to 70% and then i can turn the phone back on. also when on Facebook and i try to take a picture and upload it the phone shuts off. To me it seems like a virus messing with the phone charging system. Everything else works and operates correctly to my knowledge.

Solution: This might just be a glitch in your phone software. The best way to resolve this is to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your data first before proceeding.
