Problem: Hi I stumbled across your website and would really appreciate your help! I have a note 3 and has been working fine until this week. Main problem has been black screen and at the same time presumably switches off and wouldn’t switch back on. I then take the battery out, put it back in, and then it switches back on.
I’ve done factory reset of the phone and it stops, however as soon as I install any apps (i haven’t worked out which apps), it starts to happen again. I’ve tried multiple times, so at the moment i can use the phone immediate after a factory reset, but as soon as i install apps, it starts to occur. What do you think? Thanks! — Steven, Melbourne, AU
Suggestion: Hi Steven. You made it very clear that your Note 3 can be used without any problem after the factory reset but before you installed your apps back. I think there’s only one app that’s causing this problem. Finding that app is the key to fix this issue. I know it may be a hassle on your part but one thing to go about it is to observe closely your phone every after you install an app. In case you let your phone restore or re-install previously installed apps after the reset, please don’t. It’s impossible to know which app is problematic if you do that.
Problem: Hi. Greetings! I was gifted Samsung Galaxy Note 3 mobile just 3 months back, recently I got the updation ping and I did update on my own directly by wifi at home. Now mobile got restarted continuously – so I visited Samsung care, they told me motherboard got affected and I have to replace the same with void warranty.
How come if company sends me updation ping and I do the same and if it gets damaged then how come I be in fault? (comp not says that you must go to care centre to update). Then I did factory reset and now mobile is working properly but camera is not working. (Warning – Camera Failed). Now Samsung is not taking any responsibility and asking me to pay else they say you can do anything we will not help. Please help me out of this. Regards, Pratik.
Troubleshooting: Let’s face the reality here… there’s no manufacturer that wants to replace defective units that’s why they will talk you out of it if possible. On the other hand, there are technicians who don’t want to spend time diagnosing what the problem really is. More often, these are ones who will tell you immediately that your device has some really serious issues.
However, based on your description, it seems that the problem here is the firmware you recently installed. I’m not sure if there are just some files or data that were corrupted or the update process was interrupted. I’m glad your phone can now boot up properly and won’t restart randomly. The camera problem, however, may be fixed if you reinstall the update. There’s no way you can do that yourself unless you know how to manually flash the current version. So I suggest you go to a local shop and have the tech download a fresh copy of firmware you have in your phone right now and flash it. If the problem remains after that, then re-flash the previous firmware.
Problem: Hello, I have a Note 3 from Verizon. When I reach my data limit for the month, I turn of my mobile data. I’ve noticed that when I do this, my battery starts draining very quickly (20% per hour) and my phone heats up. Any idea what might cause the system to drain the battery so quickly when my mobile data is off? — Fernando
Troubleshooting: We don’t know for sure what might have caused this problem but there’s a possibility the phone is trying to reconnect to mobile data network especially if there are apps that need to connect to the internet. Try booting the phone in safe mode with mobile data turned off and see if it still drains its battery quicker. If so, then one of the pre-installed apps or services is causing the problem. However, if the phone drains the battery normally or even slower when in safe mode, it’s time you looked into your third-party apps to find out which one does it. But the problem is, we can’t be certain if turning off the mobile data is really the one draining the battery. Try to troubleshoot it and discover what the culprit is, then email us back with more details.
Problem: Hi, I was wondering if you had heard of this. I video recorded several things. They were anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes long. The shorter videos all play back correctly. However the longer videos play about 18 seconds worth of video and then freeze the screen, but the play bar keeps moving as if there is video playing on. And the audio, it’s just a humming noise. I have tried to dump the videos to other platforms and truthfully they won’t play anywhere correctly. The same thing happens or the player will say it’s not a valid format…which I don’t try to convert my file to. Is there a limitation on the video size I can create and view other than available space and memory on my phone?
I’m new to trying to video with a phone, and I can tell that with this phone, currently there’s really no point in trying again because nothing over 20 seconds of recording will play back. Got any ideas that might alleviate my frustration? This is what shows up in my Device info if it helps:

Troubleshooting: Hi Geneva. It’s the first time I heard of this problem. To answer your question, no, there’s no limit as to the size or length of the videos. I appreciate that you provided us information about your phone and the build of firmware that runs on it but there’s one thing that’s missing; when did this problem start? I’m sure the phone didn’t have this problem out of the box. Have you noticed any significant updates by the time this issue started?
Now, here’s what I recommend. First of all, if you are using a third-party camera application, uninstall it. Then, clear both the cache and data of the Camera app. After doing those procedures, record a 30-second video and see if the problem still happens. If so, boot the Note 3 in safe mode and record another 30-second video while it’s in that state. If the problem still happens, there’s no other option but to backup all your data and perform factory reset.
Problem: Hi, my galaxy note3’s display glass was broken while I am travelling in the bus. it got pressed hard inside my pocket. When I show it to the phone shop, he said replacing glass is more costly, so you can the phone as it is.
More than 3 months I used it without any issue. suddenly it got restarted few times and now I can not turn on the phone. So I charged the battery desperately and put, still problem is there. Please let me know what should I do? Phone company does not accept it as display is broken. Thank you. — Thilak
Troubleshooting: Since you were able to use the phone with the display glass (digitizer) broken, then it was fine. If there was something that might have been affected by it, it should have been the touchscreen function. So, let’s put aside the fact that your phone has a broken glass and continue with the real problem here–the phone won’t turn on.
There are several factors that may have caused this that’s why you need to troubleshoot. Knowing what the cause is will help you find a way to fix it. I have already written a post on how to troubleshoot a Galaxy Note 3 that won’t turn on, so please follow the link or click here.
By the way, replacing the digitizer isn’t that costly. So, have it replaced as soon as possible.
Problem: Hello, I have gone over the 32nd publication of the Samsung errors, none are what I’m experiencing so ill go ahead and explain.
First one is. Phone rings in pocket and as i pull it out it will automatically answer. I’ve set it so the home button answers. But this auto answer is still occurring. The 2nd part of this issue is if it doesn’t auto answer when I’ve pulled it out of my pocket, the screen stays fully dim and I can’t see who is calling.
2nd issue. Default apps don’t seem to work. If i click a phone number on a text message or something it asks which program I was to open it with. So I select phone and always. It asks me to clear defaults but there is nothing to clear. This now happens everytime.
3rd issue is rotate is a pain. Awfully slow and can take 5 or more seconds to rotate. Any ideas or is it just the phone?

Troubleshooting: Hey Chris. We appreciate that you provided us with details of your problems. But I wonder how you could live through these issues.
For you first issue, make sure auto call answering feature is disabled. Launch Phone app > Settings > Call Settings > scroll to Accessory Settings for Call and tap on it > uncheck Automatic Answering. What made this problem complicated is that we don’t know how frequent the phone auto answers calls and how often it dims the screen.
About the second issue, try to clear the cache and data of the dialer first. Once finished, try to see if the problem still happens and if it still does it, then it’s time you performed a more general troubleshooting procedure–resetting app preferences. Please note that defaults of other apps will also be reset when you do this but, of course, all your settings remain. Go to Settings > General > Device Manager > Application Manager > Menu key > Reset App Preferences.
The 3rd issue has something to do with the sensor. Try to calibrate the gyroscope through Settings. This procedure often fixes sensor-related issues.
I’m not sure if you still have other problems but if so, one effective way to fix all of them in one shot is to perform full master reset.
Problem: I am checking to see if there is anyway to silence my phone but only ring or notifications only thru my bluetooth I would hear the ring or notifications? Also I have noticed on my email that when I receive a email I can not delete it once I read the email. I have to go back into my folder where it has a list of all emails and check mark which one I want to delete. This does not happen all the time but on occasion. Also wondering why it might be difficult to send a video message. It constantly says sorry file is to big? I appreciate your time and hope to hear back from you. — Philip
Troubleshooting: There’s no setting that would allow the phone to stream ring tones or notifications through a Bluetooth device without playing them on its speaker first. However, other users had success putting the phone in Silent Mode. Yes, basically, it will silence both the phone speaker and Bluetooth, but please this workaround first as many reported that it worked for them–ring tones and notifications played via BT device without playing them on phone’s speaker. If, however, it didn’t work for you. Try to use a third-party app called Bluetooth Auto Connect.
About your email problem, well, at least you can delete the ones you want deleted by going to the inbox. But what makes this problem more complicated is that it doesn’t happen all the time and we don’t know which email client you use.
On sending video clips through stock message app, there’s a limit and I believe it’s a service provider thing. The size varies so we can’t say for sure how large are the videos you’re allowed to send through mobile data. Once workaround is to use a third-party app called WhatsApp. The downside is the recipient must be using the same app to play the videos you sent. Or, you can just upload the videos on YouTube, tag them as “private” and send the link to people you wish to view them.
Problem: I have 2 micro SD cards. Neither can be read by my phone. I have formatted both and they will not even show up on my phone. Anything I can try differently? Thanks, TJ.

Solution: Aside from compatibility issue, the format is one thing that could make a difference here. Format the microSD card using FAT32 format and your phone should read from it. If not, then it’s busted or incompatible. Have it replaced if possible.
Problem: Hi, I check all my emails via phone and have always been able to download any attachments. As of a month ago I can’t. I click on the attachment, it says ‘Starting download’ and then nothing.
In the list of downloaded files the files are there, but when I click on any one of them it says ‘File is not a valid PDF’. Any ideas? Love you to bits if you could fix it. — Debs
Troubleshooting: Either the phone detects that the “file is not a valid PDF” document or the download wasn’t finished leaving the document corrupt. To confirm that the file’s integrity is intact, download it to your laptop and see if it can read and open it. Once verified, send the file to your phone and see if the phone can read the file that is readable by the computer. If it can’t open it, then it has something to do with the format itself. There’s no way to fix that except to tell the sender to change the file to a standard PDF format.
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps
- Choose Settings, and tap General
- Scroll down to Device manager section and tap Application manager.
- Scroll to the right to display contents of ALL
- Scroll down to find the Download Manager and tap on it.
- Now tap the Clear Cache button, then the Clear Data button and tap OK.
Problem: I am having problems with my rooted note 3. It is a t-mobile to att. Everything seems to be working flawlessly except I can’t get my mobile data to work. I can connect to wifi no problem but if there is no wifi, I get no Internet. I have tried to follow a YouTube video I found to fix the issue but everything it said to do was already done and still nothing. Any ideas on how I can fix this problem ?! Thanks in advance. — Rachel
Solution: Hi Rachel, I believe it has something to do with the APN settings on your phone. It may have been changed or deleted. Edit the existing one or add a new one with the following info:
- Name – T-Mobile Internet
- APN – everywhere
- Username – eesecure
- Password – secure
- MMSC – http://mms/
- MMS Proxy – 18.104.22.168
- MMS Port – 8080
- Authentication type – PAP
If this doesn’t work, call T-Mobile as they may be able to help you better with it.
