The Sony Xperia Z2 and the Z2 Tablet are now receiving the Android 4.4.4 update accompanied by the PS4 Remote Play feature which was expected to arrive on the devices a couple of weeks ago. This feature is enabled by default on the Sony Xperia Z3 which was launched last month in key global markets including the U.S. Carrier variants of the Xperia Z2 might take some time to receive the update while the unlocked international version should see the update anytime now.
The two devices were only launched this February, so they’re not old devices by any means. However, Sony’s rapid upgrade cycle means that devices only remain new for six months. With the PS4 Remote Play feature, users can resume gameplay where they left off from the PS4. This feature was previously limited to the Sony PlayStation Vita, but given how far along mobile hardware has come, it was only a matter of time before having it working on tablets and smartphones as well.
The update also brings along high resolution audio feature, Ultra Stamina Mode to conserve battery life and a new screen record feature which lets you capture a video of the screen. This feature can be accessed by long pressing the power key which will show a prompt to record the screen.
