Samsung rubbishes reports of shutting down ChatOn

Some days ago, a report suggested that Samsung was looking to shut down its IM app ChatOn. However, it seems like these reports were very premature as the company has now rubbished the initial claims. Speaking to The Verge, a Samsung official said – “The recent rumors concerning ChatOn have been false, as ChatOn will continue to be offered to consumers worldwide.”

This draws the rumor to a close as the confirmation is now coming directly from the horse’s mouth. ChatOn isn’t exactly popular with customers thanks to a variety of third party options available in the market.

Samsung offers ChatOn with its Galaxy devices by default. But the likes of WhatsApp and WeChat enjoy a large user base in China, Europe and the Latin Americas. So even if Samsung offers a native chat solution for its customers, it will not replace IM clients which have already built up a user base. ChatOn is available through all major app hubs, so Samsung has done everything possible to build marketshare.
