S4 Heats Up After App Installed

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. Twice this morning I downloaded an app from the play store and both times my phone got extremely hot and the screen messed up. I had to remove the battery both times very quickly to stop it. Not an easy task because I have it in an otter box. Once it cooled I replaced the battery, booted up and immediately removed the app I had just downloaded. It fixes the problem but was wondering if it is a phone problem or a virus from play store? As to the apps I downloaded they were two different apps. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

Solution: The app which you installed may have caused some conflict with your phone software causing it to heat up. It’s highly unlikely that the issue is caused by a virus since the Google Play Store has an effective countermeasure against viruses.

If this issue happens with any app that you download then the problem may be with your phone. A glitch in your phone software may be causing this. If there are any new software updates available for your phone then get them. These updates come with improvements and bug fixes that may help resolve the issue.

If your phone is already running on the latest update then you should consider doing a factory reset. This brings your phone back to its original condition when it was new. Make sure to backup your data first as this will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the device.

  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key,Power key.

  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’

  • Press Power button to select.

  • Press the Volume down key until ‘delete all user data’ is highlighted.

  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.

  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.

  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S4 Unfortunately Settings Has Stopped

Problem: Here’s the problem I can’t open my remote control on my galaxy s4 each time I try it says unfortunately settings has stopped what do I do if I can do anything.

Solution: Wiping the cache partition of your phone helps resolve this type of error message in most cases. This procedure does not delete your data.

  • Turn off the device.

  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key

  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’

  • Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.

If the issue still occurs then you should start your phone in Safe Mode.

  • Turn the device off.

  • Press and hold the Power key.

  • When ‘Samsung Galaxy S4’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.

  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.

  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.

  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.

  • Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode then it’s likely that a third party app is the cause. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

S4 Location Issues After Latest Update

Problem: Dear Droid guy,my S4 is amazing! However after the very last update a couple of weeks ago my phones battery has been draining very quickly. I noticed a little icon pops up randomly showing the gps is engaged and trying to locate. I went to my location settings and it has been changed from power saving to high accuracy mode. I promptly change it back to power saving mode only to later find it has switched itself back to high accuracy AGAIN! Without any notification. It is happening many many times throughout the day. This is driving me insane! Help!!!!

Solution: There are two possible reasons why this is happening. First, a third party app that you installed may be automatically changing the setting to High Accuracy Mode. Second, data from the previous software version has not been completely removed from your phone causing a conflict with the new software version.

To check whether an app is causing this problem you should start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps are loaded while apps you downloaded from the Google Play Store are disabled.

Observe your phone operation in this mode and see if the issue still persists. If it doesn’t then you should find out what app is causing this issue and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe mode then you should do a factory reset. This deletes all data in your phone so make sure to back up your data.

S4 Lags When Opening A Message

Problem: My galaxy s4 has been very slow lately when I try to text certain people. It either lags when I open a new message or freezes all together and I have to restart my phone. I’ve looked online and the most helpful thing I’ve found is to reset my phone. Is there any other way to fix my phone problem without resetting it completely?

Solution: If your phone only lags when you use the messaging app then there is a way to resolve this without doing a factory reset. You can clear the cache and data of the messaging app to eliminate the lag issue. Make sure to have a backup of any important messages that you have in your phone before performing this procedure.

  • From the home screen, tap Apps.

  • Scroll to and tap Settings.

  • Tap More.

  • Tap Application manager.

  • Swipe left to view the All tab.

  • Scroll to and tap the Messaging application.

  • Tap Clear cache.

  • Tap Clear data

  • You’ve now cleared the application cache and data.

S4 Can’t Connect To Mobile Internet

Problem: I bought Samsung s4 recently but I am unable to connect to internet with mobile date bundles.

Solution: The most probable reason why you can’t connect is because the APN settings of your phone have not been properly setup for use on your current carrier. The APN setting is provided by your carrier to allow you to use their data network. I suggest you contact the technical support number of your carrier to have them setup the APN setting of your phone.

Most carriers will also have these settings published in their websites. If you know how to manually enter the settings then you can get the correct settings from the website.

To access your phone APN settings follow the steps below

  • Tap on Apps

  • Tap on Settings and then tap on More networks under Connections

  • Tap on Mobile networks

  • Tap on Access Point Names

S4 Emoji Issue

Problem: Hi. Everything I send an Emoji a message pops up and says: “Attention message may be corrupted on recipient device. Change input mode to automatic”. I can’t find anywhere where I can change the input mode. I’m guessing it isn’t automatically converting to mms but I’m not sure. The recipient gets question marks instead of emoji even though it shows on my end that I’ve sent one. I recently did a software update and converted my SD card to a new one. Would this have done something? Thanks for your help!

Solution: To change your input mode to automatic you should first open your Messaging app. Click the Menu button then click on Settings. Scroll down until you get to the part that says Input mode. From there you can change the setting to automatic. Once this has been set the next time you send an emoji to you friends it will be sent as an MMS.

S4 Gaming Issues After Latest Update

Problem: I spent the last couple of months refusing to install this new update because I heard how horrible it was. Unfortunately, the notifications won the game and I got tired of seeing them… and installed the update. WORST MISTAKE EVER!! I can’t imagine that if this update was EVER tested first, it would have EVER been released in the state it’s in. My first question is, is there any way to uninstall this update without doing a factory reset?? There are so many issues that I can’t even list them all, however, I work a very long and high stressed day and I really look forward to playing my silly little escape games at night to wind down. The picture used to fill my screen perfectly… and now, the picture is smaller and it’s cut off at the top, bottom, and both sides making it almost impossible to play. Is there any way to fix this until I figure out how to get my old phone back to the way it was??

Solution: Getting the old software back in your phone is not as easy as doing a software upgrade. You will need to get a copy of the previous firmware version used by your phone. Your phone should also be rooted and have its bootloader unlocked. Even then if you do successfully do a downgrade the data on your phone will be deleted which in your case is not an option.

You mentioned that your phone has experienced several issues after the update but you are particularly concerned with the games. The best way to resolve this issue is by doing a factory reset.

Since you are not keen on doing a factory reset then the next best thing to do is to clear the cache of the affected games then check if there are any updates available for the particular game.

  • From the home screen, tap Apps.

  • Scroll to and tap Settings.

  • Tap More.

  • Tap Application manager.

  • Swipe left to view the All tab.

  • Scroll to and tap an application.

  • Tap Clear cache.

If clearing the cache does not work then you should consider uninstalling the app then reinstalling it again. Take note that your game data will get lost in the process.

S4 Stuck In Boot Loop

Problem: Hello, I have an issue with my Samsung S4. It suddenly went into a reboot loop. Only stops when I put it on the charge and even then, it won’t start. I tried pressing the home, volume up, & the power keys all at once to do the cache wipe or factory reset trick, but even when I press all three buttons, the phone keeps rebooting… I saw your post on a website while researching the problem and thought i’d contact you maybe you can help me fix this.

Solution: A boot loop is one of the most common issues that an Android device can have and the S4 is not immune to this. The good thing is that there are several troubleshooter steps that can be done to resolve this.

The first thing you need to do is to clear the RAM of your phone. It may contain some corrupted temporary data that may be causing this issue.

  • Tun off the phone

  • Take out the battery

  • Take out the microSD (if you have one installed)

  • Press and hold the Power button for at least 3 minutes

  • Reinsert the battery (leave the microSD out)

  • Turn on the phone

If the problem gets resolved then you can go ahead and reinsert your microSD card.

If the boot loop problem is still present then you should wipe the cache partition of your phone. This procedure does not delete your phone data.

If wiping the cache partition does not solve the issue then you should consider doing a factory reset. This will however delete all data in your phone so make sure that any important data stored has a back up.

S4 Mobile Hotspot Not Working

Problem: I am unable to switch on my samsung s4 mobile hotspot, it gives me an error message as thus “Either MDN or ICCID is not valid”.please i will be looking forward for your fruitful solution. thanks.

Solution: The MDN or the Mobile Directory Number is used by the data network to identify the particular data service while the ICCI is your SIM card serial number. To troubleshoot this issue you should start by contacting your carrier and inquire if there are any issues with your account. If there are none then your next step is to use another SIM card on your phone.

If after using a new SIM card the error message still appears then you should do a factory reset to eliminate any software related causes. Make sure to backup your data before proceeding.

S4 Constantly Prompts To Download Zero Launcher

Problem: Dear Sir, I wonder if you would be so kind as to help me. Since this morning not having downloaded anything other than sending some texts I keep getting a message prompt saying system scanning found some virus threats and prompts to download ZERO Launcher. I cannot stop this from constantly coming up. What can I do?

Solution: You probably installed a free app that’s now giving you these ads that keep popping up. To verify if this is the case you should first start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode all third party apps downloaded from the Google Play Store are disabled.

If the issue does not occur when in Safe Mode then you should find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.

S4 Water Damage Issues

Problem: Hello, I was wondering if you would be able to help me, my friend has given me a Samsung galaxy s4 which has been dropped down the toilet which she did dry out and still operates. However, although the camera and speakers are fine, there is a problem with the signal and it often wont let people ring or text and also the battery life doesn’t last long, is there anyway I could fix the phone so that it works again?

Solution: The thing about water damaged phones is that the issues most often don’t show up immediately. There are cases when the issues becomes visible a few days, weeks, or even months after the phone got wet.

What you can do right now is to perform a factory reset and replace your battery with a new one. The reset will resolve any software related issues that your phone may have while replacing the battery with a new one will give your phone a longer battery life. Make sure to backup your data before performing a factory reset.

If the above troubleshooting step does not work then best solution right now is to bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

S4 Email Not Responding

Problem: Hi, I have been right through your page to find a similar problem and can’t. For the last week or so, I find that when I open my emails, I can read the first 3 lines (as per my settings) but if I click on an email to open it, it freezes the program. I return to home and then a minute or so later, in whatever I am doing, I get a ’email is not responding, would you like to wait’. I am on android 4.4.2. Everything else seems to be working. i would appreciate any tips as my google search has been fruitless thus far!

Solution: If the problem only occurs when you open your email then this may just be caused by corrupt temporary data of the email app itself. What you need to do is to clear the cache of the app.

  • From the home screen, tap Apps.

  • Scroll to and tap Settings.

  • Tap More.

  • Tap Application manager.

  • Swipe left to view the All tab.

  • Scroll to and tap an application.

  • Tap Clear cache.

  • You’ve now cleared the application cache.

S4 Keeps On Restarting

Problem: I have Samsung galaxy s4 from a year ago before one week I have such a big problem my phone doesn’t open and it keep restarting without opening the screen galaxy s4 comes and goes and comes I have tried every thing I remove my battery and put a new one I remove the external SD and even the SIM but it doesn’t works !!! when I press the volume down, home bottom and lock bottom the warning come to me when I press the up bottom nothing change and the Samsung s4 screen come again and again I connected to my lap top nothing changes please help me.

Solution: The issue you are having right now is called a boot loop. This problem is common to Android phones and is usually caused by a corrupt software. Since removing the battery and the SIM does not resolve the issue you should ry wiping the cache partition of your phone. This doesn’t delete your phone data.

If the issue is not resolved then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that any data stored in your phone will be deleted so you should make sure to have a backup of it.

S4 YouTube App Issue

Problem: Hey, there! This is my first time emailing you, but I love reading your stuff. I’m hoping you can help. I have the S4. I am usually savvy enough with smartphones to figure out issues as they come along, but this one has me stumped. As you probably know, the YouTube app comes built in on the S4. I’ve been using the app for seven months without a hitch. Then about a week ago, it stopped even letting me sign in. Every time I try to sign in, it tells me “There was a problem with the network.” However, there is no other evidence that there is a problem with the network. That, along with the fact that I have never seen this message before and it is now showing 100% of the time, makes me highly doubt the truthfulness of this statement. I’m stumped. Nothing changed as far as I can tell.

Solution: Make sure that your Internet connection is stable. Try opening a website using your phone browser and if it opens slowly then this might be a connection related issue. If you can open web pages without any issues then the problem may be with the YouTube app itself. You should clear the cache and data of the YouTube app.

S4 Can’t Detect Wi-Fi Signal

Problem: I have a galaxy s4. All my coworkers can connect to our wireless signal but me. It says not in range. I have Verizon but my friend does too and has no problem. Any fix for this? I tried powering down the device. But same issues. Thanks.

Solution: Most Wi-Fi related issues can be resolved by toggling the Wi-Fi switch under the quick settings or restarting both your phone and the router.

Other known solutions include

  • Go into Settings > Connections and tap Wi-Fi. Then tap Menu and make sure Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is set to Always.

  • You can try turning off Wi-Fi power save mode on your S4. On the phone dialer type *#0011# then Menu > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi power save mode to Off.
