With Microsoft finishing its acquisition of Nokia, future Lumia Windows Phone devices will be missing the Nokia branding. In the midst of this news, we’re now hearing that the manufacturer could be looking to launch an Android device of its own. It is being said that the team behind the Nokia N9 will be responsible for this handset. This will probably be different from the Nokia X series which have seen moderate success in global markets.
Nokia is also teasing an event for the 17th of October which will apparently give us a look at the company’s future. The company has merely posted a teaser on Twitter and hasn’t made anything official yet, so we might be reading too much into it. In any case, Microsoft has rights over the Nokia brand until 2016, so it will be interesting to see how this rumor will take shape in the coming days. It is possible that Nokia’s design team will offer help to other OEMs in designing an N9 like device as its own branding cannot be used.
In any case, take this rumor with a pinch of salt as it could go either way. Would you be interested in a Nokia’esque Android flagship? Share your thoughts.
