A new leak has revealed Amazon’s plans to launch the HTC Desire 612 smartphone starting this Thursday. As this is a midrange offering, the leak suggests that the carrier will price the handset at $19.99 on contract, which is a pretty aggressive price even for a budget handset. The smartphone has been spotted on Verizon’s equipment guide support page, so there’s no doubt about the smartphone’s arrival on the country’s largest carrier. We have no word on the off contract pricing of the Desire 612 from Verizon, but we don’t think it will be anything over $200 given the hardware on offer.
The smartphone should be available both in stores and through the carrier’s online store this Thursday with an official announcement expected sometime soon. The Desire 612 is expected to pack a 4.7 inch 960 x 540 resolution display, an 8-megapixel camera on the back, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, Android 4.4.3 KitKat and a 2,040 mAh battery. There’s no information available on the chipset powering the smartphone, but we’re guessing it will be the quad core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 SoC as this is expected to be Verizon’s iteration of the Desire 610 which was unveiled in May.
