Samsung Gear S officially launching in the U.S. on Nov. 7

Samsung Gear S

The Samsung Gear S smartwatch will be up for grabs through all four major carriers of the U.S. by early November according to a new release issued by Samsung. The likes of Sprint and T-Mobile have already confirmed the availability of the smartwatch starting November 7 and 9 respectively, while Verizon and AT&T are yet to offer any word on the launch dates. Interestingly, AT&T was expected to be the first in the U.S. to offer the smartwatch, but it seems like the carrier has postponed its plans.

The smartwatch has been priced at $384 by Sprint or $16 per month for 2-years, while the T-Mobile variant costs a little less at $350 or $14.58 a month for 2-years. Overall, it’s a pretty expensive smartwatch with very limited functionality as it’s only compatible with Samsung devices. But considering the fact that it has a SIM card slot for cellular connectivity, Samsung and the carriers probably think the pricing is justified.

It will be interesting to see how AT&T and Verizon will price the smartwatch, considering what we’ve seen from Sprint and T-Mobile now. The Gear S is an excellent option if you already own a Galaxy device such as the recently launched Galaxy Note 4. But if you don’t, the Moto 360 or the LG G Watch R might be the way to go.
