Note 2 Burning Smell When Charging

Problem: Last night I had my phone plugged into the charging cable like I have done every night for the past almost two years. Early in the morning I awoke to a burning smell, which I eventually determined was my phone. After unplugging the phone, I noticed the microUSB plug was very hot. I removed the phone from the case I use, and I noticed some liquid on the case as well as on the outer edges of the phone. I removed the back cover and also found liquid there. I assumed an issue with the battery, but the battery was cool to the touch, and the battery compartment was completely dry. Now when I plug in the charger, I hear a sizzling sound and smell the burning smell. The phone is apparently charging, but I’m scared to keep it plugged in. I see a terrifying number of screws I could remove to have a look inside. I did not get the phone wet, so the liquid must be coming from something leaking inside the phone. What could be going on here?

Solution: From the way you describe the problem it appears that an electronic component inside your phone is leaking fluid. You should take extra precaution when dealing with this liquid since it may be hazardous. Do not in any circumstance plug your phone to the charger as you risk the chance of your phone catching fire since the liquid may cause a short circuit.

If you are not comfortable opening your phone to check what is going on inside your best option is to bring it to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Very Slow Charging

Problem: Hi, I am facing extreme slow charging in galaxy note2 since 1 month. I have tried using alternate charger, the result is same. It takes 14 to 16 hours to get it full charge. I have tried by charging phone by switching off also, but still nothing changed. But there is no battery draining problem. Once full charged, its working almost full day and I don’t even charge with the laptop. Its 11 month, I purchased it. Help me if you have a solution.

Solution: If your phone does not have a battery drain issue then we can isolate our troubleshooting to the charging process.

The length of time needed to fully charge your phone battery will depend on the current being supplied by the charger. The higher the rated current of the charger the quicker it is for the battery to be fully charged. The charger that came with your phone has a current rating of 2 amperes. Another factor involved is the USB cable being used. Some microUSB cables are designed for charge only purposes and not capable of data sync. These cables tend to speed up the charging process. Normal microUSB cables on the other hand with the data sync enabled charge the slowest.

Taking these into consideration, I suggest you try using an original Samsung Note 2 charger for your phone as well as an original microUSB cable. If you are already using the original charger and cable then try using another one.

When you are charging your phone make sure that the ports on the phone and charger side are clean. Any dirt on either port may have an effect on the amount of time needed to charge your phone. If you spot any dirt then clean it using a cotton dipped in alcohol. Make sure that your phone is off and that its battery is taken out before cleaning it.

Note 2 volume Too Low

Problem: Galaxy Note 2 volume used to be too low when playing music, but I would adjust the ringtone all the way down, and then when I turned the ringtone back up, it would play my music louder.  Recently, (maybe with an update?) it stopped doing this, and so I no longer can turn up my music to an enjoyable loud enough volume.  My workplace is loud, so I need it louder the way it used to be, or else all my music on the phone is useless to me.  Any ideas?  I tried the android app volume+ (free version) but didn’t seem to help.  Thank you for any response.

Solution: If the volume settings on your phone are already set to maximum and your music is still not loud enough then this may already be a system software issue. If you suspect that the issue occurred after you updated your phone then you can try performing a factory reset. Take note that this procedure will delete everything in your phone including your data so it’s best to make a backup first before proceeding.

  • Turn off phone
  • With the handset turned off, press and hold the Volume Up key.
  • While holding down the Volume Up key, press and hold the Home key.
  • With both the Volume Up key and the Home key held down, press and hold the Power key.
  • Release all three keys when the Samsung logo appears.
  • Press the Volume Down key to scroll to wipe data/factory reset.
  • With wipe data/factory reset highlighted, press the Power key.
  • Press the Volume Down key to scroll to Yes –delete all user data.
  • With Yes –delete all user data highlighted, press the Power key.
  • Once the wipe is complete, press the Power key to select reboot system now.
  • The master reset is now complete. The handset will restart.

Note 2 Instructions On Getting Updates

Problem: I would like to know if there’s going to be any update for the Note 2, and if so can you help me with instructions on how to update it. Thank you in advance

Solution: The latest update of your phone will depend on what version your carrier has released. The latest firmware update is Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Updating your phone to the latest software is fairly easy. Most of the time you will be notified that a system update is already available for your phone. If you see the notification just touch OK twice to continue. Your device will power off then power on and the installation will begin.

You can also manually check for any new updates for your device by following the steps below.

  • From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap the More tab.
  • Tap About Device.
  • Tap Software update.
  • Tap Check for updates.
  • Tap OK when a new update is found.
  • Select Continue or remind me later to download the update now or later
  • Tap Continue to download and install the update.
  • Tap Done once the update has finished installing.

Note 2 TouchWiz Issue

Problem: Hi droidguy, I am running the most up to date stock romantic for my note 2 from Verizon and every time I reboot my phone I get a message that TouchWiz has stopped working.  I can hit ok and it loads but it’s an annoyance and was wondering what I can try. Have tried resetting phone and it is also occur in on my wife’s phone. Thanks.

Solution: There are several factors that may be causing the TouchWiz issue you are experiencing in your phone which we will be detailing below.

This may be caused by an issue with the configuration of your app preferences. If this is the case then you will have to do a reset.

  • Access Settings
  • Choose Application Manager and select the All tab
  • Tap the Reset App Preferences option
  • If a confirmation message appears, just tap Reset Apps

This issue could also be caused by a glitch in the TouchWiz app itself. To fix this you will have to clear the data of the app.

  • Tap Menu.
  • Go to System Settings.
  • Proceed to Application Manager.
  • Choose TouchWiz.
  • Tap Clear Data.

Another factor to consider is the TouchWiz screen mode setting. Try switching the setting to Basic or Easy through the Home Screen Mode option found under Settings followed by Device. You might also want to try to change the Window Animation Scale via the Developer Option.

Note 2 SMS Issues After Update

Problem: I got problem regarding sms I n Note 2. Since the note 2 was upgraded into 4.4 I noticed sending sms runs to slow and also every time I typed in it hangs and it takes time to display the words I already typed-in and the keypad hangs almost every time I type a letter. I have to wait for a seconds for me to type a new words its annoying. I try to delete other received  and sent messages hoping it solves the problem but it still the same but if I used other apps to send messages like WhatsApp, Viber, Tango etc. it fine…I got no problem.. Keypads works perfectly and don’t hang.

Solution: This issue appears to affect only your stock messaging app. To resolve this you will need to clear the cache and data of your messaging app. If you have any important messages in your phone then I suggest making a backup copy before proceeding.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • On the More tab, tap Application manager.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Messaging application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • Tap Clear data.
  • The application cache and data is now cleared.

Try sending out an SMS and see if the problem disappears. If it is still present then you might want to do a factory reset on your phone. Make sure to back up your data first before proceeding.

Note 2 Frozen

Problem: Hello!  I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and yesterday morning it froze.  It is literally frozen in time at the time it froze.  4;49 am.  🙂  And I cannot turn it off to do a soft re-boot.  How do I fix this?  And will I lose all my pictures?  Please, tell me I will not lose all my pictures!  I have MANY on there, all of our sweet

little family. Thank you!

Solution: If the power switch does not allow you to turn off your phone then follow the steps below to resolve this issue.

  • Take out the battery
  • Press and hold the power button for around 3 minutes
  • Reinsert the battery
  • Turn on your phone

Your phone should boot up normally this time.

Note 2 Does Not Turn On

Problem: My wife’s note 2 SCH-I605 (Verizon) wanted to turn the side to side motion feature on, I allowed the feature then her screen dimmed then went off, when I pushed the power button to turn screen back on nothing? It had been getting hot near the motion sensor so I replaced with a new one (before the shut off happened) everything was going fine, But it shutoff like I said earlier and won’t come back on. I can’t enter any mode as it won’t come on its unresponsive. I have just purchased two OEM batteries and still nothing, have a OEM charger new still nothing? When I hook it up to the Computer or charger nothing no battery icon or LCD light? The SKU is SCHI605ZWV if that helps. All I want is someone to point me in the right direction whether it’s a motherboard replacement or whatever? Can I ask would a bad power button stop it from charging or showing the battery icon when charging? Can a bad USB charging port stop it from turning on? Need a list of possible things that would stop all functions from working and not turning on? It’s not rooted have the official 4.4.2 update from Verizon.

Solution: It’s difficult to troubleshoot a hardware issue on our end since we will be doing it blind. The best option that is available right now is to bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking and repair.

I can however say that if your power button is bas then your phone should still show the charging icon if you plug in the charger. Even if the USB charging port is already faulty you can still insert a fully charged battery in your phone and it will turn on. My guess is that there is a faulty component inside your phone, it could be the motherboard or something else.

Note 2 Forgotten S Note Password

Problem: Hi, I have a problem that I hope you can help me with. I have the galaxy note 2 that I’ve had for about eight months now. Early on when I first got it, I’ve played around with a few apps one of which was the S Note app. I’ve stored some personal things in there with a password lock. The problem is, I haven’t used the app in quite some time and have forgotten the password. Is there a way to retrieve my password or get around it without delete..? I’ve checked the Internet with no help just people with the same problem. Thanks in advance.

Solution: Unfortunately the only way around this is to do a factory reset on your phone then use a new Samsung account. You will lose all data in your phone as well as those stored in your S Note app if you opt or this solution. You will however be able to back up your phone data but not your S Note data before performing the procedure.

Note 2 Battery Drains Fast After Installing Clash Of Clans

Problem: Hi I own a note 2 from 8months. Battery life was too good but recently after installing a game called clash of clans I’m facing a lot of problems regarding my battery. 1st the network would go completely for few sec when the device battery goes down 70% . It keeps repeating if I use any application which uses internet and I have to charge my mobile 4 times a day. Please help..!!!

Solution: It appears that the problem is caused by the Clash of Clans game. You could uninstall the game and check if your phone works normally.

If you plan on keeping the game then try to check if there are any new updates for the app. These updates come with improvements and bug fixes that may help resolve this issue.

You could also try using a Wi-Fi connection instead of a your mobile data connection since this uses less battery life.

Wiping your phone’s cache partition may also help resolve this issue. This procedure does not delete your phone data.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When ‘GALAXY Note II’ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
  • With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

Note 2 Stuck In Boot Logo Unless Charger Is Connected

Problem: Hey. I have problem with my note 2. I was charging my phone at night and forgot to turn off my mobile data. Then I got a lot of notification and my phone get extremely hot. I was sleeping that time. Then my phone must be connect charger every time if I unplug my charger my note 2 immediately goes to Samsung Galaxy Note 2 again and again. It’s stuck! Now I’m using my powerbank. So I can use my phone normally. But I don’t want like that forever. Help me

Solution: This problem could either be caused by a software issue or a hardware issue. Let’s tackle the software side of things first.

To check if this is a software related issue you will have to do a factory reset. Make sure to plug your hone using the original wall charger and back up your data as this will be deleted in the process.

Once the factory reset has finished unplug the charger and reboot your phone. If it boots normally then a glitch in the system software may have caused the issue.

If the issue is still present then this might already be a hardware related problem. In this case you will need to bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Only Works With S Pen

Problem: I have galaxy note 2 and only s pen works that is my fingers do not work on screen at all. I broke n changed its screen about 4 months ago n now this problem has started when my daughter dropped it on hard floor. Please guide me for a workable solution.

Solution: It appears that the digitizer of your phone is already damaged. This is probably due to your phone being dropped. You will have to bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking and repair.
