LG is quite focused and involved with Android Wear smartwatches right now, but a new leak indicates that the manufacturer could be looking towards webOS for use in future wearables. The screenshots accessed from LG’s developer page seem to hint at the rebirth of the now extinct platform. Needless to say, LG has now removed the page from its website, fueling further doubt in our minds.
One of the screenshots mentions that the platform will be powering the LG SmartWatch, which is a device we’re yet to encounter so there’s not much info to go with at the moment. Considering that Android Wear is still in its infancy, it is possible that LG is trying to keep its options open. Samsung is doing the same by relying primarily on the Tizen OS for its wearables.
LG has been supportive of webOS as it recently launched a television running on the platform. So it won’t be far fetched to see a smartwatch running on the same OS. It will be interesting to see how webOS based wearables will differentiate from the current crop of smartwatches. What do you think?
