Note 3 Back Up Procedure

Problem: I am not a very savvy technical person but I would love to connect my Note 3 to my computer and back it up, buuuuuttttttttt how do I do it? I can get connected to the computer and back up pictures but that is as far as I been able to get. I would like to back up the whole phone and do a factory reset just to get things all working smoothly again. I am also a fiddler. I will fiddle with all the features until I can use them. But I really have no need to have a phone that does all the Note 3 does bit I love this phone. In the process of fiddling you screw things up and need to do resets.

Solution: Backing up a phone is one of the most important steps that a person must do on a regular basis but sadly a lot of people are not doing this. It will only take one minor glitch in the phone software for the personal data stored in it to become inaccessible.

The good news is that with a Samsung device backing up data is made easier with the Kies software. You will need to download the latest Kies software from the Samsung website and install it in your computer. With this software you will be able to back up the following contents of your phone: Contacts, S Note, Message, S Planner (calendar events), Call log, S Health, Videos (internal memory), Music (internal memory), Photos (internal memory), miscellaneous content files (internal memory), Ringtone, Story Album, Applications (internal memory), Alarm, Email account information, and Preferences.

To back up your phone

  • Connect your device to your computer.
  • Open Kies 3 and click the Back up/Restore tab.
  • If necessary, click Data backup.
  • Mark the checkbox next to the content you want to back up. You can select all content by marking the checkbox next to Select all items. Click Backup.
  • Click Complete when the backup is finished.

Once the backup has finished you can then go ahead and do a factory reset on your phone. If you would like to restore your data after the factory reset then just follow the steps below.

  • Connect your device to your computer.
  • Open Kies and click the Back up/Restore tab.
  • If necessary, click Restore data.
  • Select the backup file to restore to the device from the drop-down box. If you cannot find the restore file in the drop-down box, scroll to the bottom, click Find file, and select the file.
  • Mark the content you want to restore from the backup file, and click Restore.
  • Click Complete when the restore is finished.

Note 3 Gmail Has Stopped Error

Problem: Dear droidguy, Ever since the software update I’ve been having issues with my personal email (Gmail).  I get an error popup at least 3-4 times a day stating that my email has stopped.   This happens all day. Sometimes it’s when I’m not even using my email. When I try to open my email it takes a long time and then I’ll get the error. If I’m lucky, after trying 4-5 times, it’ll finally open but will lag like crazy. This has only started once I upgraded my software.   Please help?  I’ve already tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that didn’t work.  Any other suggestions?   I’ve been using my work email (Gmail based) with no issues. Thank you.

Solution: If the only issue that occurs after the update is with the Gmail app then troubleshooting the issue should concentrate on the app itself.  You mentioned that you already uninstalled the app and reinstalled it but the error still occurs. This means that the problem may be with the way the app interacts with the system software. There might be some leftover data from the old system software that is still in your phone. This old data may be causing this issue with the Gmail app. The fastest way to get rid of this data is to do a factory reset on your phone. You should back up all your data first before proceeding as this will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3’ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

Your Gmail should be working properly by now.

Note 3 Facebook Won’t Install

Problem: I have a Samsung note 3. About a week or so ago my Facebook app stopped opening. After 2 days of this I uninstalled the app with the intentions of reinstalling it. Well every day for the last week that I have tried reinstalling Facebook from Google play it says error -24 and won’t install.

Solution: An error 24 occurs when data from an app that was uninstalled is still left in your phone. In this case it is the Facebook app. When you try to install Facebook from the Google Play Store the store does not know what to make of this data which is why an error 24 will be generated.

To resolve this issue you will need a file explorer app which will allow you to browse to the contents of your phone internal storage. Go to your phone storage and search for the Android folder and click on it. You will see two folders here, one named data and the other named obb. Click on the data folder. Look for folders with the label com.facebook.katana and com.facebook.orca. Long press on both folders and delete them. Exit from the file explorer app. Go back to the Google Play Store and install Facebook.

If the above procedure does not work then you might want to try to wipe the system cache of your phone. This doesn’t delete the data stored in your phone so there’s no need to do a backup before proceeding.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3’ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
  • With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

If the above steps don’t work then a factory reset is highly recommended at this point. Make sure to back up your data as it will be deleted in the process.

Note 3 Lags, Freezes When Using Nova Launcher

Problem: Hi guys. Just a quick question. I’ve been using Nova Launcher for a couple of months now and loved it. However, a problem has come up with my Note 3 constantly freezing and lagging tremendously. It gets to some points where the keyboard (I use Swift Key) freezes and disappears and when I unlock my device, the screen remains black for up to two minutes. After following instructions found on the Web and your site, (uninstalling recent apps, clearing the cache) the problem still persisted. On a whim I decided to revert back to Touch Wiz just to see what would happen. This seems to have improved my phone’s performance greatly. Any idea how to solve this problem? I assume uninstalling and reinstalling Nova launcher but I guess I would lose all my settings. Amy help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution: If your phone works fine when using TouchWiz then the problem lies with the Nova Launcher. The first thing that you can do without losing your settings is to cleat the cache of your Nova Launcher.

  • From the home screen, tap Apps.
  • Scroll to and tap Settings.
  • From the General tab, scroll to and tap Application manager.
  • Swipe left to the ALL tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Nova Launcher application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • Review the message and tap OK.
  • You’ve now cleared the application cache.

If clearing the cache does not work then you might want to try to clear the app data. Unfortunately, you will lose your current settings if you do this so it’s best to make a note of your settings so you can easily set it back properly.

  • From the home screen, tap Apps.
  • Scroll to and tap Settings.
  • From the General tab, scroll to and tap Application manager.
  • Swipe left to the ALL tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Nova Launcher application.
  • Tap Clear data.
  • Review the message and tap OK.
  • You’ve now cleared the application data.

If you are still experiencing the same issue despite clearing the data and the cache then you might want to uninstall the Nova Launcher then download it again from the Google Play Store.

Note 3 Boot Loop

Problem: Hi, I have a Galaxy note 3 and as soon as I turn on the phone and the “Galaxy Note 3” screen appears it automatically reboots. It never goes pass that screen and just starts rebooting.  I already tired to hold down the up volume home key and power and “recovery booting…..” appears in the left corner but then it restarts again. Never leaving that screen.  I can’t call the phone company because my water damage sticker is red but this happened a long time ago and my phone was working just fine until now.  any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Solution: There are various reasons why your phone goes into a boot loop but the primary cause is due to conflicts in the software. Follow the troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue.

Reboot your phone and take out its MicroSD card if it has any installed.

  • Turn off phone
  • Take out the battery
  • Take out the MicroSD
  • Press and hold the power button for around 3 minutes
  • Reinsert the battery (don’t insert the MicroSD yet)
  • Turn on phone

If your phone boots normally then the issue may have just been caused by a corrupt data in your phone RAM or MicroSD. Try to reinsert your MicroSD and see if everything is normal this time.

If your phone is still stuck in a boot loop then you must perform a factory reset on your phone. Take note that any data stored in your phone will be deleted in the process so proceed at your own risk.

Are you still experiencing a boot loop at this point? This might already be caused by a system software issue. To fix this you will need to reflash your phone software. This can be done by using a computer software called Odin as well as a copy of your specific phone firmware. Instructions on how to use Odin can be found at several popular Android forums.

Note 3 Lower Portion Of Display Freezes

Problem: Hi. Since the time I bought the phone quite frequently it’s lower half portion screen including buttons freezes while browsing or typing where as upper portion continue to work and swipe. As soon as I shake the mobile the problem disappears and it starts working properly. Or keep it untouched for a minute or so again it starts working. Is it software or hardware issue?

Solution: There are two ways to determine if this is a software issue and both ways have to be performed. One is to boot your phone in Safe Mode and the other is to perform a factory reset on your phone.

To boot in Safe Mode

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3’ appears on the screen, release the Power key. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode then it might be caused by a third party app that you installed. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

Before doing a factory reset make sure to back up your data.

If after performing the factory reset the problem disappears then it might have been caused by some glitches in the system software.

If after performing both troubleshooting steps above the problem still persists then this may already be a hardware issue. In this case it is recommended that you bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 3 Notifications Out Of Chronological Order

Problem: Lately the items on the Notification panel have been showing up in random order instead of chronologically and since I save a lot of them it’s almost impossible to find the current ones. Is there a way to reset the way notifications are shown or otherwise fix the problem? Thanks in advance!

Solution: There is a big possibility that clearing the system cache of your phone will help resolve this issue. There’s no need to back up your data when performing this procedure as it won’t be deleted in the process.

Note 3 Won’t Turn On

Problem: Firstly thank you for the blog. My Note turned itself off. I tried to turn it on…but no way …with just the power button. I looked at the net…the majority said…remove the battery… I removed the battery…and put it back in…and YES it worked again….but WHY? And I hope not again… Is there a fix for this situation? Thanks.

Solution: There are many reasons why your phone will suddenly turn itself off. It could be that its battery has low power or it is running to many processes to handle that it crashed and turned itself off. There’s really no sure fire way to avoid instances like this however you can take certain steps to minimize its occurrence. Making sure that your battery has sufficient charge is one way. Installing apps from official sources such as the Google Play Store is another. Also make sure that your phone is running on the latest software update.

Note 3 Camera Always In Beauty Face Mode

Problem: Camera always opens in beauty face mode and instantly pop ups say server error, please restart camera.  Can’t get it to work.  What do I do?

Solution: If your camera app always starts in beauty face mode and then gives out an error then you may want to clear the data and cache of your camera app.

  • From the home screen, tap Apps.
  • Scroll to and tap Settings.
  • From the General tab, scroll to and tap Application manager.
  • Swipe left to the ALL tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Camera application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • Tap Clear data
  • You’ve now cleared the application cache and data.

Try using your camera again and see if it works normally this time. If it doesn’t then check if your phone has any new software updates and apply them. These updates have improvements and bug fixes that may resolve the issue.

Another thing to consider is if certain third party apps that you installed is the cause of the problem. To verify if this is the case then just boot your phone in Safe Mode. Only the standard apps will be loaded while the apps that you installed from the Google Play Store will be disabled.

If in Safe Mode your camera works normally then you will have to find what app is causing the problem and uninstall it.

Note 3 Can’t Disable Safe Mode

Problem: Help! I can’t seem to disable Safe Mode. Power off, battery out doesn’t seem to work! Haven’t downloaded any new apps of late. Thanks in advance.

Solution: Try the following steps below to boot up your phone normally.

Power and volume combination

  • Turn off your device by holding the Power button and tapping on Power Off.
  • Hold the Power button and the Volume Up button simultaneously while booting your phone.
  • If your device still didn’t boot up in regular mode, then turn off your device again and follow Step 2, but instead of the Volume Up button, use the Volume Down button.

Battery removal

  • Turn off your phone
  • Remove the battery from your device.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 3 minutes
  • Reinsert the battery
  • Turn on phone

SIM removal

  • Turn off your phone
  • Remove the battery and SIM from your device.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 3 minutes
  • Plug your wall charger to your device, without inserting your battery.
  • Reinsert battery and SIM
  • Turn on phone

Factory Reset (Make sure you have a backup of your data)

Note 3 Buttons Won’t Respond

Problem: Hello, I’ve just found your site online and would like some help with a problem with a Galaxy Note 3. It’s brand new (8 days old) and: The 3 buttons at the bottom (2 tactile and the home button) no longer react correctly. The tactile buttons only work with the S Pen. The home button works 1 time/3 S Search keeps popping up and there is a clicking noise as if it’s on repeat/blocked I must admit my phone got wet…when I say got wet it was about 3 drops of rain last night I already had a Galaxy Note 3  (it got stolen) that I took all round the world and never had this problem, rain or shine. I put it in rice last night for about 4 hours. I rebooted factory settings…still the same. Please help me, I can’t afford another 500€!!

Solution: It appears that your phone already has a hardware related problem. The digitizer of your phone may have gone bad already which is why it isn’t recognizing touch based controls. The S Pen will work since it uses a different component in your phone to work. Your best option is to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it repaired.

Note 3 Screen Is Unresponsive After Update

Problem: Hey, Igot my Note 3 SM-N 9005 this September 25th. After some firmware updates from Samsung my phone started to act haywire. My finger touches would not be accurate. They they would set off chain reactions. touches would be registered even if there weren’t made then the screen did not pick up my touches at all. Only the S Pen would work. it works completely fine with the S Pen but now it won’t register my fingers at all.at first I thought it was a software glitch so I installed the latest firmware downloading from Sammobile and using ODIN but the problem still did not go away now I’m using Google Voice Commands please excuse my mistakes it hasn’t even been one month since I bought the phone and in my country due to me buying the LTE version it  does not cover with the Warrenty.so I do not know what to do please help as my touch screen with will not work without the S Pen my fingers do not register thank you.

Solution: This is a similar issue as the one posted above. The problem may be caused by a faulty hardware most probably the digitizer that has gone bad. You should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.
