Given the sort of popularity Facebook enjoys, it’s not far fetched to imagine a potential for a smartphone branded with its own software. However, Facebook failed miserably at this with the HTC First which was announced last year. The smartphone received largely negative reviews and failed to make any sort of impact on the market. And now, a new report is suggesting that the social media giant is in talks with Samsung over the development of yet another smartphone.
The extent of the talks is not known at the moment, but it seems like Facebook might want to explore the smartphone segment further. Considering the fact that Samsung’s Gear VR headset uses tech from Oculus which is in fact owned by Facebook, it’s not unnatural for the two companies to formally meet. But Korean media outlets claim that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg met with top Samsung leadership personally to discuss a potential smartphone deal.
Will the market be receptive to yet another Facebook branded smartphone but with Samsung’s hardware and marketing prowess? Only time will tell.
