Interested users can now download the Android 5.0 Lollipop keyboard through an apk file available on the XDA forums. This features a flatter design and an overall cleaner look compared to the Android 4.4 keyboard, so it’s certainly an upgrade from what users are currently accustomed to.
The keyboard will appear by default on stock Android devices when the Lollipop update arrives in November, but OEM devices will probably never see it as they have their own keyboards. The likes of Samsung, HTC and Sony are expected to start rolling out the Android 5.0 update by Q1 2015. Motorola devices on the other hand run a very stock version of Android, so they can expect to receive the update sometime in December or early January.
The keyboard is compatible with devices running Android 4.0+. It requires users to flash a regular apk file and no root access will be needed, which is very good news. So make sure you give it a try from the XDA link below. It is being said that the keyboard force closes when a non-Google app tries to access it in landscape mode, so it’s certainly not without its issues.
